    Community policies: Copyrighted material

[Posting instructions for quoting articles provided below.]

You are not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by this Web site/message board. These include, but are not limited to images, photos, videos, and audio files. You agree to abide by the wishes of the board moderators in interpreting and enforcing these rules. Refusal to cooperate with board moderators or to abide by these rules is grounds for revocation of your posting privileges.

In general, you own the copyright if you created the image yourself. You do not own the copyright of a photograph by simply purchasing a copy (unless the original photographer sold his publication rights to you). An item does not have to show the (C) copyright symbol to be copyrighted.

We frown on the use of non-MousePad smilie icons imported from other boards unless you have obtained explicit permission to use them outside of the other community. Administrators are known to follow up and check on these as well.

Quoting news articles and linking to them
    ********************************************

If you come across an interesting article that you'd like to share with others, please follow this guideline:

    1. Provide the full citation: Where did you see this article? When was it published? If you saw it online and you have its URL, please provide a link this way:

In your message-posting window, click on the button in the vB Code section labeled "http://". A small window appears. First, enter the name of the title of the article, and click OK. A new window opens. Paste the URL for the article.

    2. Add either a synopsis of the article/Web page you are referring to. If you wish, you may include a short quote from the article. In general, the quote should be no longer than a single paragraph (generally up to 5 lines or so) of the primary point of the article you wish to convey.
