We went yesterday to DCA and explored the Holiday Food Booths. We bought a Sip n Savor Card. We used 6 tabs by getting the Brisket Slider, Ham Slider, Mac n Cheese with Carnitas, Southwest Mac n Cheese, Pork Belly with Fried Garlic Rice and Turkey Poutine.

The sliders were good, the brisket being the overwhelming favorite of the day. The rest was just meh. DH and I agreed we were underwhelmed. The poutine was the least favorite, sadly. It was mushy sweet potato tot-like, not french fry-ish and was a small amount of food for the price.

When we go back we'll use the last 2 tabs on the sliders and be done.

The Cherry Mango drink was nice but not worth going out of our way for again, IMO. We paid for that one and didn't use a tab for it.

We grabbed the brisket slider and ham slider. I will say that I agree with my kids that the smells from those 2 things were not the most pleasant. In many ways I was so glad that for some reason the cranberry-bacon jam thing on the ham one ended up fall off to one side of it. That was not good. The ham, cheese and bun were fine though. My husband had the brisket slider. He was not a fan of the horseradish ketchup and it seemed to have made his bun soggy but he said the meat was really good in it. That was all we had the chance to try though since we had the kids with us and they aren't into that stuff. There is only a couple things I really want to try still and it was sweets so will do that next time.

Oh I know. I had seen so many good reviews on them. Yet that did not turn out great for us and was a shame. Yet it does seem to happen with some of the food from time to time I've noticed when reading other's reviews where one person one day gets a good item and either later in the day or the next can get a bad one or not as good. Oh well...on to the few treats next time that I wanted to try.

so funny I had the brisket slider yesterday (12/5). Good - not great. Roll got soggy around the edges and it ate more like pulled pork than beef brisket. almost like pot roast with BBQ sauce.

So odd how this one seems to be at this point. Funny you mention the BBQ sauce as my husband said he should have found some to put on the meat. LOL

Huh. I'm not a fan of horseradish and I don't recall it in the one we got.

Yep it said horseradish ketchup. Maybe you got lucky and there wasn't much on it so it wasn't noticeable. LOL My husband said that was not good at all so be thankful.

Indeed! Perhaps we won't be using our last 2 tabs on the sliders, although DH *loves* horseradish so maybe...

this will be the first festival where I didnt buy two Sip and Savor passes. There's just nothing great to get there. I do love some of the old standbys (the pork belly especially) but the rest is not on any hot list for me.

Grabbed a last minute reservation for today for the husband and I. It was mostly to shop but we finally were able to grab some gingerbread cookies. I tried the gingerbread cake in DCA from the cart by Goofy's Sky School. Its so yummy! Would recommend if you haven't had it yet and like gingerbread cake.

I will say that I don't know why they made us have to go over into the Pixar lot instead of Mickey and Friends but holy cow that was a nightmare with how slow it was. On top of that there was no one else from the other booths coming at the time we got past the booth but out of the blue some jerk in a large truck has to floor it to get in front of us. Thankfully we were able to stop in time but am so over these kind of people.

Got another day coming up before the blocked days begin so will have to try a few more things during that time.

I'm glad you were able to stop in time, Berry! Rude drivers are one of my biggest pet peeves...

Thanks and we are as well. I don't drive but OMG these kind of drivers....I joked they should be put in tiny clown cars that go really slow.

given that this is a Holiday food and merch thread - this question fits but its a Magic Key question. When our passes are blocked (like the last 2 weeks of the year) are they still valid for parking and discounts in Downtown Disney? I did not go look at the terms yet but thought I'd ask here.

To close the loop here- I dug into the Terms and Conditions for both the pass program and specifically Inspire. Parking? blocked if your pass is blocked. You cant get the discount or the free entry ( though there is some vagueness because they include that in a sentence where it says "at the discretion of Disney" or something to that effect. Discounts? doesnt say blocked or not available for any time period - so I have to assume they are valid in DtD even on blocked days.

    Anyone have a different experience?

I have no idea if it is or not. I would assume that if you aren't given the discount/free parking in one of the theme park lots its more to keep those people out for those not blocked and more so the regular ticket holders for the day paying full price. I can't say on the shopping/food discount part either as we have never bothered going over there unless we were going to the parks. I did a search and found this though from Plan Disney's site. . It claims you would get the discounts still but I think unless any of us try we have no clue really.

Most places just look at your key, so most places will probably give the discount. The Disney Specific ones I'm not sure since they scan it. I would say you will still get your discount. Parking said only on your valid days.

Went over to the parks tonight for a quick last minute grabbing a few gifts. So went over and got the Chocolate Bourbon-flavored Tart made with twix pieces. OMG that was super yummy! Since it was so cold when I got it the chocolate was more fudge like than mousse in texture but I don't think it would have made a difference. It was one of those things I would eat again.

    I agree. I loved it.

So @gothicrosie on the socials stated that the policy is no discount or parking. This was according to Guest Services when asked by her directly. But - several other people have experienced getting discounts regardless of blockout and mentioned this to her on her sites. Chock it up to another time when "policy" differs from feet-on-the-ground action. Of course - this means your experience may differ when you go.
