CDC Sets Timeline for Cruises’ Return to US Waters

"According to USA Today, the CDC has stated that cruises could resume as early as mid-July in American waters. This timeline assumes compliance with the CDCs Framework for Conditional Sailing Order, which outlines guidelines to ensure the health of all crew and passengers. The order requires routine testing, a vaccination plan, simulated test voyages, and daily reporting of COVID cases.

In addition to the framework already in place, the CDC has outlined 5 clarifications to its April 2nd guidance. These are as follows:

Ships can skip simulated test voyages if 98% of the crew and 95% of the passengers are fully vaccinated.
Cruise lines applications for simulated test voyages will be reviewed within 5 days, instead of 60.
Testing and quarantine requirements will be altered for vaccinated passengers and crew.
Cruise ship operators may enter into a multi-port agreement, as long as all port and local authorities sign that agreement.
More clarification has been provided on quarantine guidelines for passengers exposed to COVID-19 while on the cruise. Those passengers can drive home, or they can quarantine in a hotel."

Note: DCL has not yet updated their website to reflect any of these updates.

It will be interesting to see how Disney adapts to these guidelines, as many/most seem predicated on cruises being filled with fully vaccinated guests, which is possible to require for adults only cruises but is not the demographic for Disney cruises. I feel like at a minimum 1/3 of the passengers on a Disney cruise are under 16, which depending on how they are counted could dramatically lower their % of fully vaccinated passengers.

At this point, I don't think our family will cruise again until vaccines are available for all members of our family. Which hopefully will be soon(ish) as more of the youth/teen trials take place.

Same. We don't have a cruise booked until the end of 2021 (non-DCL) and are hopeful our DS13 will be fully vaccinated by then. We will not be booking one when/if DCL says they are resuming out of US Ports this summer.
