    No more free magic bands

Just saw that Disney is no longer providing free MagicBands for WDW hotel guests. You can purchase one, use an old one, or get a Key To The Wold card from the front desk. I think this stinks. Getting your MB's in the mail was always a sign that your trip was near. Also, I like getting a different color for each trip.

Yes I saw this too. I have to decide for my February trip what I am going to do. Should I try using an old band, purchase a new one or just get a key card?

The issue I see with the key card is even if you do remote check in you will still have to visit the front desk to pick up the card since Disney is not mailing them. Kind of defeats the purpose.

You can also use the app on your phone as a key to unlock your door.

Very true but as of now you still need a band or card for your park admission.

I would definitely go with an old band. MB's are so convenient. If you truly wanted to not carry anything on you, MB's make that possible. Love that flexibility of being able to make purchases with the band.

I have zero interest in using my phone for more things. Especially for a room key or Fastpass-Minus! On the trip in 12 days, I plan to take one or more of my oldest bands and verify they still work. No reason why they wouldn't. In that case, I have like 23 or more to select from...

I saw somewhere that they are now a discounted $5 for the basic bands for hotel guests? If so, this is probably a good compromise between whose who want/need a new one for their trip and those who are willing to re-use older bands. if it is sent to me for free, then I will get a new one each trip. But if it costs even a nominal amount, I am more likely to stop and think about whether I actually need a new one for any given trip (using need loosely, i.e. they came out with a new color that I really like; or I can't remember the "safe place" I stashed all the older ones after my last trip).

it reminds me of the Kaiser (health insurance) co-pay model. When I was a kid, the co-pay was $2.50. It wasn't designed to prevent anyone from being able to access care, just to make them stop to think about whether they needed a doctor's visit (vs. a bandaid, two Tylenol, etc).

I can confirm that in your reservation you can still order MBs. The basic color ones are $5, while the fancier options are $10-25. I didn't see the newer base colors when I looked at this yesterday on my phone, will check again. I don't have any of those. Yet.

I decided to purchase the magic bands. Got some of the fancier ones which are discounted from park prices. I can confirm that you pay tax on the purchase but at this time shipping and handling is free.

I'm considering it too. Only 11 days to go, so I better do it today! Gonna take a couple original MB to test too though.

I would much rather use one of my old Magic Bands than drag out my cell phone every time I needed to unlock a door, enter a park, use a FP+, or make a purchase.

Agree with this also. MB's are just so convenient.
