Thread: Countdown to the MAGIC!

  1. #126

Train down time duration does seem extreme. Supposedly due to replacing all the track while they took it down for TRON anyway. I think I read somewhere that is why more recently they removed the engine that was on display in front of Main Street Station for quite a while when the RR was first down. It's probably to the point where WDW RR has now been down for longer than it took DL to re-do the whole Frontierland / Critter Country corner that they re-routed due to Galaxy's Edge construction. That certainly seems like more of a big deal, with the elaborate new curves, bridge structure and River re-configuration.

Don't forget about the actual Atlantis Shuttle display at KSC! (though I admit the Saturn hangar was way cool too! A bit of a trek away from the main area on the internal bus though. Need to allow time for that, not that that's a foreign concept to WDW visitors )

I've only gone to KSC once, but that was pretty cool to be so close to the shuttle. It's displayed very nicely. Never did get to see a shuttle launch in person, unfortunately, even though work did take me down there for other launch related work a few times around a decade or so ago.

Out of some concerns for my health and the need to repair my travel trailer I have once again postponed my Walt Disney Would Vacation from later this month to the end of April and the first week of May.
I did add some days to my stay and will be doing Universal and the Space Center as well, with everything I want to see and people who I want to visit with I see myself on the road for over a month.

Looking at the price of admission to the Kennedy Space Center I think I will buy a yearly pass and plane another trip with in a year.

Setting up camp at Fort Wilderness Campgrounds now sometime in the future

Yes, but it's not that much track. I think you and I could've replaced the whole track by ourselves in this period of time. There's no reasonable excuse for the crazy duration, unless they are completely refurbishing all locomotives with new fire/water tubes in the boilers, driver pistons, etc.

Oh yes, obviously have to spend time in the shuttle displays! Being close enough to touch something like that is so much better than reading about it or just watching videos. Like being there and touching a Blackbird. Seen those at Pima Air Museum, USS Alabama Museum, Museum of Flight in Seattle, and Lackland AFB. I haven't been to KSC since 04, need to go back. Wonder if they still include the VAB on the tour...

While I was installing 83,000LF of sewer lines and new lift stations at WSTF, they received the engine assemblies and other shuttle systems for decommissioning and cleaning, removal of all hydrazine, etc. before they were reassembled and sent to the various places Barry sold them to. I wish I'd pushed our contact to get me in to see them up close. They do some really crazy cool stuff there. Everything that is going into space gets sent there to be blown up since the early Apollo incidents. Last thing I worked on there was a blast shield assembly for a SpaceX test item. Basically a large concrete shrapnel deflector!

    So today is Bo Derek!

Darn.... now you have me "wishing I was" visiting Jock Lindsey's after my evening flight in for a Cool-headed Monkey and an appetizer or 2 before kicking off my first park day the next morning..... Someday they need to adopt a "best of" menu at Jock's. It's changed so many times since opening. Some favorites have come and gone (dish with brats, popcorn chicken come to mind), but I always have managed to find something else good, so no serious complaints. On the current menu, the Air Pirate's Cargo Loaded Pretzel looks like it might be good.

I figured some Tolkien fan would get mad about associating Hobbits and Dwarves. Lol. Of course I dont mind offending them after that awful first movie wasted 4hrs of my life for 10 minutes of plot...

Hey that's a trick question for you Sheldon-like correctionists... Construction started in '91, so by 1 Jan '92 wouldn't that answer be 2.5?

We're gonna try, thanks! By my reckoning this will be my 34th, not counting working at MK for 8 months. Uno!
