WDW 50th Anniversary
I plan to visit WDW for the 50th anniversary. So timing is my question. The options are summer 2021 (early June or late July) or Christmas break (12/29/21 - 1/7/21). I would like to go when the celebration is in full swing and the new Guardians ride is open. Since the actual 50th is in October, I wonder when the celebration will kick off.

Figuring out the mom thing
I have the same questions! I've only visited WDW once before, it was December and the weather was lovely, so I *think* that's what I'll aim for, but predicting the school break is hard with Christmas on a Saturday that year. I'm glad I'm not the only one planning so far ahead!

If I had kids, their school schedule would not be a consideration for my vacation planning!

WDW 50th Anniversary
DebT how exciting!!!! From where I’m sitting I can see all the kids in that amazing Christmas 2010 trip! I’m hankering first a 2021 trip but not sure that will happen with two kids at Uni inhaling all my money with a 2020 trip already planned.

That used to be our opinion, until kids got older and making up school work became a bigger headache in high school for them - and well, your realize your priorities need to be set beyond the next WDW trip. But by then they didn't want to go to WDW anyway, so it didn't matter.
Husband born in 71', October actually, and always jokes about WD starting the park for him ha ha, so might have to do a 50th b'day long weekend for the hubby if we don't plan something else. Guess I'll need to start thinking about that -

I guess I look at it differently than most, as school was always too easy for me and making up work wouldn't be an issue. But I guess most kids aren't as good students and that could be an issue for them. But I'd still do it.

For 2021, the 50th, we plan on being there on October 1st. Our dates will be Sept 29-Oct 5. Plan to book at our 11-month window.

I always envied kids who could breeze thru - wasn't as easy for me. How fortunate for you. But my point was that schools these days have stricter restrictions on time lost for what they consider non-essential absences than they did in the 70's, 80's and 90's even. And of course, there comes a point when anyone who has kids has to reevaluate life's priorities for a few years and put the kids needs first, as opposed to the parents wants.
Some parents also pay HS tuition, and that puts a different spin on it, and some kids would rather NOT miss things besides academics, such as the many extracurricular activities that they commit to attending.
Back to the original topic...
As I noted above, we are hoping to get to WDW during the celebration. I'll be watching for information on how long the celebration will be, I'm hoping it will be a longer one so we have more flexibility as to when we can go as we have a few other destinations on the short list over the next 2 years. I'm hoping to fit it all in!

That will also be our parents' 50th as well, so we've been talking about that as a trip. Even though Dad has been sagging every trip is his last, last, last trip for four years or more. Not sure we can afford the Poly or such, but we do need to plan as I'm sure rooms will be tough.

I attribute a lot if it to the fact that I read a lot from the beginning. Like Swiss Family Robinson in 3rd grade. By 12 or so, I had the reading comprehension level of a Master's degree. But my point was that as parents it's your decision, not the school's. Mine were teachers and dad ended up as a Deputy Supt after years as a Asst Principal. Schools may talk tough, but they'll back down at any threat of a lawsuit. Especially public schools. You wouldn't believe some things I've heard... So do what's best for your family.

I have a husband who's a high school teacher, a kid who will be in college and a granddaughter in elementary school for this trip. School schedules rule my life unfortunately. Also, we potentially have a larger group coming with us and that adds another college schedule and high school schedule. Ugh!!!!

We are looking at New Years 2021/2022 or summer 2022. Looking at the crazy wait times from this year, I would LOVE to avoid the winter holidays. Would love to see you there!!

I will likely try to brave the crowds too. Since the ending of Osborne Lights, I've been doing a F&W trip earlier in the fall, right around the week that overlaps Sept/October.
I would think it might be on the same scale as when they switched over from Wishes to Happily Ever After. Those days were very busy, at least in the evening.
Presumably they will do some sort of commemorative button and special map for the day.
Assuming (might be a stretch, from what I unofficially heard) the Train is back up and running by then, it would be cool if they reverted back to something like the previous opening for the day with characters arriving at the train station, and maybe someone saying a few words to open the park that day.
Obviously 50 is more of a big deal, but I was there for the tail end of the MK 45th anniversary on 10/1. It was not a prime focus of the trip, but I was there for the tail end to see how crazy it was at night. Not horrible, but the merchandise was mostly sold out by the time I got there. Also did the 35th at Epcot, the big thing I recall being a huge deal there was the lines for the commemorative merchandise in the morning.
For a day like that, the craziness is part of the fun, I guess.
