    Pammer ~ February 26 - March 2, 2019 ~ Offsite

    Travel dates: February 26 – March 2, 2019
    Travel method: Southwest
    Resort: Camelot Inn (Off-site)
    Accommodations: Standard
    Ages Represented in Group: Adult
Disney Resort Experience Represented in Group: Veteran
Comments: A last trip to the Resort before James' AP expires!
    Cast of characters:
    • Pam, 58: trip planner/writer/self-proclaimed Disney Queen!
    • James, 59: Pam's hubby who likes Disneyland but is not as fanatic as Pam!

    The Planning

I asked James last summer if he would like to make another trip to the Disneyland Resort before his AP expires on April 24th and he said yes, so we came up with February 26th – March 2nd and I started the planning!

Lodging: I booked a One-Bedroom Family Suite in August at the Camelot Inn on Harbor Blvd. (a less than 10-minute walk from the parks; total for 4 nights = $985); our sleeping habits are so different nowadays that this arrangement works very well for us (James could stay up as late as he needed to and I wouldn't disturb him when I left early for the parks each morning!), although it is a lot more expensive. 

Transportation: I booked airfare on Southwest Airlines from Sacramento to Orange County for both of us using points at the equivalent cost of $118 each; the total TSA fees & Early-Bird option for all flights came to $102.40 (without points the total cash cost would have been $316).

I also made reservations with SuperShuttle for travel to/from our motel in Anaheim ($45 total after the 10% AAA group discount was applied).

Tickets: James' Deluxe AP + MaxPass expires in April, but mine expires 2 days before we depart on the trip; fortunately, I had purchased another Deluxe AP with MaxPass on the Disneyland website back in October 2018 BEFORE the latest price increase ($804; it just needs to be activated by 10-13-19).

Priority Seating: I made three dining reservations for our visit; the rest will be counter-service:
    • February 28: Blue Bayou @ 11:30am & World of Color Dessert Party @ 7:15pm (me only; I will pick up a FastPass for James)
    • March 1: Carnation Cafe @ 3:50pm (during the parade)

    The Itinerary

The pre-planning was done very quickly, and here was the result:
    • February 26: Fly down in the afternoon; check-in to the Camelot Inn; Disneyland/DCA
    • February 27: Disneyland/DCA
    • February 28: Disneyland/DCA; lunch @ Blue Bayou & World of Color Dessert Party
    • March 1: Disneyland/DCA; late lunch @ Carnation Cafe
    • March 2: Check-out of the Camelot Inn; fly home in the afternoon

Monday, February 25, 2019 (1 day before departure)

Actual: I worked all day and went to Arby's at lunch to pick up some roast beef sandwiches, one of which I planned to eat tomorrow for lunch. I then printed off our Early-Bird boarding passes at 3:40pm (A40 & A41) and later stopped at Subway on my way home to get James his veggie foot-long sandwich for tomorrow.

We spent the evening getting ready (last-minute house cleaning & packing) & watching a little TV, and I was in bed around 10pm; James fell asleep much later than that as usual!

    Tuesday, February 26, 2019 (65o)
Plan: Fly down in the afternoon; check-in to the Camelot Inn; Disneyland/DCA

    Actual:
    • I was up at 7am, fed & medicated our kitty Sidney, and worked until 11:15am
    • I finished getting the house ready, ate an Arby's sandwich for lunch, & James got up around 12:30pm
    • Left house @1:40pm; Highway 99 was backed up (rainy day), so we detoured off at Fruitridge over to I-5 (no problems after that!)
    • James dropped me & most of the bags off at the terminal around 2:20pm since it was raining, and then went to park the car
    • I checked in our large suitcase (31.5#) & sat down to wait for James
    • Met up at 2:45pm & through pre-TSA very quickly
    • James ate remainder of his Subway sandwich while I filled our reusable water bottle & ate a small bag of Lay's potato chips that I had brought with us
    • Our plane was late coming in and we departed 15mins late just before 4pm; the plane was completely full
    • I had Diet Dr. Pepper & pretzels and James had ginger ale & pretzels
    • Landed 10mins late @ 5:15pm
    • We retrieved our suitcase and walked down to check-in at SuperShuttle; we had to wait for a van and finally left @ 6pm
    • There was heavy commute traffic and we were the 2nd party to be dropped off around 6:40pm
    • Checked in to the Camelot Inn and got our room #512 (near the pool; not too happy about THAT possibly noisy location!)
    • Left around 7:15pm & walked down Harbor to The Pizza Press; I got in the long line while James went on down to CVS @ Katella
    • CVS = 2 gallons of water & cough syrup = $11.16
    • I was still in line when James came back (but almost to the front of the line)
    • The Pizza Press @ 7:45pm = "The Press Cheese", "Publish Your Own", & soda = $27
    • Ate half of our pizzas and walked back to the room (decided to skip DL since they were closing in less than an hour and my new pass still needed to be activated)
    • Unpacked, watched TV, got settled, I showered and was in bed at 10:30pm

    • No wait to activate my new Deluxe AP
    • In long line for Disney California Adventure by 8:20am; through the turnstiles by 8:35am (early entry here today; also very busy due to people wanting to get Fastpasses for World of Color, which had just returned from refurbishment 10 days earlier)
    • MaxPass for Radiator Springs Racers @ 8:35am = 10:55am (next MP = 10:05am)

    • Left for DL @ 6:30pm

    • I got in line for the WoC Dessert Party around 7:20pm and James went to ride RSR via the single rider queue

    • Sat with a mother & her adult daughter for the dessert party; slow service, we barely got our food & drinks before the show started at 8pm!

    • WoC show = same as before, but I loved it!!!

    • Elias & Co. @ 8:45pm = blouse & two paperweights = $59.12 (10% AP discount)
    • DCA = closed & DL was closing at 9pm, so we left the resort

    • Cancelled Buzz MP @ 9:15am & made one for Soarin' instead = 9:40am (next = 9:40am)
    • To DCA @ 9:25am (Buzz down anyway so no walk-on standby); long lines to get into DCA
    • Guardians with MP @ 9:45am (still within my grace period); only 1 shaft working so the line was barely moving
    • MP for Guardians @ 9:45am = 12:15pm (next = 11:15am) while in their queue!
    • Gave up and left the Guardians queue at 10:05am, as I was still outside in the FP return queue after 20mins and had hardly moved! I spoke to a lead (CM Sarah), who explained she was about to issue a "Multiple Experiences" on the attraction for an hour; however, since I had already been scanned in, she said to come back later and they would accommodate me
    • I ate a P3 snack I'd brought with me at 10:15am while heading across the park
    • Soarin' with MP; scored as a single rider into Row B1!
    • Watched a bit of the Red Car Trolley News Boys show as I passed by around 10:40am
    • Guardians was back up, so CM Steven gave me a paper FP

    • MP for ST @ 1:35pm = 2:45pm (next = 2:45pm), once James was in the park
    • Met up with James at the Disneyland Monorail station, where I took some photos of the Mickey "skins" on the trains before boarding Monorail Orange to ride round-trip

    Friday, March 1, 2019 (66o) ~ Part II
Plan: Disneyland/DCA; late lunch @ Carnation Cafe

    • Disney Visa meet & greet with Darth Vader @ 2pm

    • Boba Fett was by the exit, so I took a photo with him

    • I then did the Rey meet & greet and the Kylo Ren meet & greet while James looked around the main Star Wars Launch Bay store

    • James bought a Star Wars sling backpack = $38.78 (10% AP discount)
    • ST with MP @ 3pm (Darth Vader, Hoth, Yoda, & Naboo; noticed the "plussed" segments for the first time!)
    • Carnation Cafe @ 3:30pm = 2 cups of Walt's Chili & iced tea (James) + cheeseburger, fruit, & Coke Zero (Pam) = $42 (10% AP discount)

    • Watched Mickey's Soundsational Parade as it passed by
    • Headed over to DCA just after 4pm, along with the after-parade crowds!
    • DCA Food & Wine Festival AP Corner inside the Blue Sky Cellar for buttons and pictures

    • MP for Buzz @ 4:20pm = 6pm (next = 5:55pm)
    • Frozen @ 5pm; we sat downstairs in the Orchestra level and had a young girl sing loudly & off-key behind me to ALL of the songs (hey, this isnt the sing-along version they used to have in the Muppet Theatre!). James kept cracking up because he knows I was getting annoyed, not so much at her clearly enjoying herself but at her parents who were encouraging her to sing LOUDER! I really prefer to hear the voice talent ON THE STAGE, so I was glad to have already seen it this week!
    • After the show, we headed back over to DL
    • Buzz with MP @ 6:20pm [J = 541,500 & P = 181,200; no photos again]
    • MP for Buzz @ 6:30pm = 8:30pm (next = 8pm)
    • Star Wars Launch Bay @ 7pm = BOGO 50% off certain SW sweaters = $140.12 (10% AP discount)
    • Tomorrowlanding @ 7:10pm = 2 Star Wars AP name badges = $19.37 (10% AP discount)
    • Adventureland Bazaar @ 7:30pm = Tiki Room spirit jersey = $63.02 (10% AP discount)
    • Pieces of Eight @ 7:40pm = Pirates of the Caribbean spirit jersey = $63.02 (10% AP discount)
    • Disney Showcase @ 8:10pm = AP logo embroidery on 3 shirts = $25.83
    • Sat outside the shop for a while to rest my feet, then headed over to ride the Disneyland Railroad; however, it was down due to the upcoming fireworks
    • Saw CM Maynard outside the Opera House!

    • I was exhausted so James went to ride Buzz two times using our MP (his & mine) around 8:45pm while I sat inside the Opera House to wait for him (#1 = 540,000 & #2 = 620,000; no photos still)
    • We met back up & went to pick up the shirts
    • Disney Showcase @ 9:15pm = refund AP logo embroidery on 1 shirt = ($8.61), which just happened to be James' SW sweater; they had been unable to confirm they could get a replacement sweater in case the embroidery ripped it since SWLB had already closed for the day, so they decided it was too risky to do so (too bad, since he was the one who really wanted the embroidery in the first place!)
    • The fireworks were in 15mins but I was just too tired to wait, so we headed out
    • McDonald's @ 9:30pm = BOGO Big Macs & a double hamburger = $7.52
    • We watched the fireworks through the window while waiting for our food
    • To the room around 9:45am to eat and watch TV; lights out for me around midnight

    • Through Pre-TSA by 11:45am; sat down to wait for our plane
    • Carl's Jr. @ 12:15pm = Six-Dollar Burger & small Coke Zero = $10
    • Full flight on time both departure & landing @ 3:15pm
    • I had Diet Dr. Pepper & pretzels and James had ginger ale & pretzels during the flight
    • James went to get the car from the parking lot while I got our bags off of the carousel
    • SMF parking @ 3:40pm = $46
    • James picked me up at the terminal and we drove home!

    Steps: 5,629

Up Next: James & I are scheduled to go back together at the end of September, so we can activate his new pass before 10-13-19 ~ such a long time between visits for me (7 months)!

Summary: It was still a bit crowded even during the week, but the weather held out (no rain until the day we flew home) and we had a nice vacation together!

    Highlights include:

    • Being at Disneyland together again!
    • Seeing World of Color again!
    • MAXPASS!!!
    • Riding Toy Story Midway Mania multiple times!
    • Using Mobile Order at Award Wieners (twice!) and bypassing the long lines!
    • Great weather!

    Lowlights include:

    • No Space Mountain (my favorite attraction at Disneyland Park) since it was down for refurbishment (announced long after my reservations were in place) 
    • The email-your-photo process at the end of Buzz not working
    • Missing its a small world holiday
    • The crowds
    • My sore feet

    Until next time!
    Pam

Love your report as usual. I really like the pictures you post too. It would be cool,if we could walk into Disney world like you can walk in Disneyland and California adventure. Im getting my first ever annual, pass in June because I am going back for 12 nights in November so I really enjoy your posts about your passholder savings too. Looking forward to,your next report.

Thanks Sue! I hope you have a wonderful time at WDW...twice this year! Maybe you can return for a 3rd trip before they expire in June 2020! (I hope to get back there by the end of 2020)

Sue Holland Rayford would be a great resource for getting the most out of your annual pass at WDW; she lives so close and goes so often!

I KNOW!!! It's already been 3 months, so at least I'm almost halfway there! I did look into a quick trip next week when I read how low the crowds were at the resort, but I couldn't get the time off of work at that short notice (darn it!).
