This is my new favorite Top 5 list!!! Splash Mt is definitely my favorite ride at WDW and DL. And yes, I own the film. It doesn't take much to find the film for sale on the internet. It isn't HD or even quite DVD quality, but it has allowed my family to see an excellent film with timeless stories and truths.
One of the things I love about Splash Mt at DL is that because we have cold mornings and evenings, the line is walk-on for the first and last 30-60 minutes of the day. And I literally mean walk-on. At WDW, it's just hot non stop, so it's always got a big line all day long.
All of my kids did this at the age of 3 as a ceremony of being a Big Kid! We have photos from all of those moments. We love all of the mini-drops that splash you, the big drop that soaks you, and all of the great music. The WDW definitely has an advantage as it moves slower through the scenes than the DL version. This really lets you take in the music and story so well.
And I'm with you....the Zip-a-Dee Lady riverboat scene is the best! Maybe the best attraction scene in all of Disney. And I especially love on the Railroad at DL where there's window where you see this epic scene. Iconic!
Working for Disney. No, no. Working (in a Modesto office) for (the money to take a trip to) Disney (World/Land)

Splashmountain is arguably my all time favorite. I'm zeroing in on your #3. The view from Chickapin is amazing and gives a great view of much of the park. It's almost my favorite place to be (aside from directly in front of Cinderella's Castle:-) during the fireworks. it's pure Disney magic watching them explode above the park from that vantage point.
Hey Gator,
Thanks for the kind words and for being a loyal reader!
I've got two copies of the film myself. I have a DVD bootleg but I also have the European PAL video cassette. I used to have a PAL converter at work, so I made myself a VHS copy a long time ago. It is an excellent film and I wish they would release it as a special release and include some commentary from movie reviewers and historians.
We have a photo of my daughter's first ride at 5 years old and she's absolutely terrified. Funny thing is there's a similar photo of her at 19 with the same exact look on her face!! She just hates that drop.
Thanks again,
Chris
Great Top 5 for this amazing attraction. I own the Japanese subtitled VHS version of Song of the South, and one of the best parts of the old tape is the preview ad for Splash Mountain at Tokyo Disneyland! I agree that the music is fantastic throughout the ride, the storytelling is strong, and unfortunately my daughter (age 7) also refuses to go on it again... I'll try the bribe idea next time.
