    SoCal 3day Hoppers

We live in AZ and we are going to the parks for Spring Break, mid March. Our friend is an AP and he lives in Riverside. He will be joining us in the parks in the afternoons after he gets out of work. Would we be able to have him purchase tickets for our group or do we all have to be So Cal residents?

You would all have to be SoCal residents to use the tickets. From what I've read and heard from other posters and on other boards, everyone who uses the SoCal ticket offer must be a SoCal resident (which is what is stated in the fine print on the offer on Disney's site). Disney has been getting stricter on asking for I.D. at the gate when people enter using these tickets. Last year people reported being asked for I.D. at the turnstiles to prove they had a SoCal address. I've read that people have been asked for I.D. this year as well.
If you will be going to DLR for more than one day, look at the offers on Mousesavers.com. There may be something listed (aRes, Getawaytoday, Costco, AAA, etc.) that will save you some money.

I may be wrong here, but the way I understand it, the first use must have someone in the party as a SoCal resident. SoCal residents are allowed to take friends and family (up to 5) on these tickets, so they must be present on first use. That said, you may want to call and verify.

That is the way it has worked in the past, and that is how people assumed it would work up to last year. Then, last year, people started posting on another board that they had SoCal friends/relatives buy the tickets (and in some cases accompany them to the gate), but that they were asked to show I.D. proving SoCal residency at the turnstiles. When they could not do so, they were escorted to the booths to pay the upgrade to a regular ticket. This was reported more than once last year and has been reported this year, too. I don't know if it happens every time, but with Disney getting more strict with tickets and passes across the board, these reports don't surprise me.

I can confirm that you will be asked to show proof of Southern California residency (usually a driver's license or California id)
