Bob Iger D23 Keynote

A quick post...

It's been a busy day at the first D23 Expo. I attended Robert Iger's keynote, Disney Legends presentation, and a press conference with Iger and Steven Clark, head of the D23 Expo.

Iger talked about growing watching the Mickey Mouse Club and Davy Crockett. He also addressed Disney's acquisition of Marvel Comics. Much of the Marvel news has already been reported.

We got treated to the first 30 minutes of the Princess and the Frog. Yet to be completed scenes were replaced with pencil sketches. It's a good story with a strong message. The gags are great. It has all of the character elements of the typical Disney film.

After the film, Anika Noni Rose, who voices Tiana) appeared on stage to sing one of the songs from the movie (someone get me the title).

This was followed by a chance to win a night in the Disneyland Dream Suite. Dan Learn from Murietta, CA found the winning envelope taped under his seat. Learn said that his father worked as a street sweeper at Disneyland.

Afterward a break, Dick Cook from Disney Studios honored the 2009 Disney Legends Harold Archinal (Former president of Buena Vista Internationa), Leota Toombs Thomas (WED Imagineer and Madame Leota), Don Iwerks (creator of revolutionary film systems for the Walt Disney Studios), Tony Anselmo (the voice of Donald Duck), Bill Farmer (the voice of Goofy and Pluto), the cast of the Golden Girls (Bea Arthur, Estelle Getty, Rue McClanahan, and Betty White), and Robin Williams (we all know who he is).
