Artist Dave Avazino to make appearance at Disneyland September 28-29

Custom Name Sculptures and Rare Artwork offered during event only.

I purchased my first Dave Avanzino graphic sculpture several years ago when the artist introduced his iconic Disneyland "Lands" series. I've collected almost a dozen of his pieces since then, but by far my favorite is the custom name artwork ordered at the 2011 D23 Expo.

This is my favorite piece, because it's everything we love about Disneyland.

Dave worked with my husband Tony and I to pick out each individual letter of our plaque, offering suggestions for the best arrangement of letters and making a rough sketch of what the final piece would look like right there on the spot. We received the finished piece a few weeks later, and it was even better than we hoped.

The pieces that launched our personal Avanzino collection.

Our guest bedroom has a Disney Cruise Line theme, so this piece is was a must-have.

Since the program was first launched, Dave has expanded and refined the program to offer even more options, and make it even easier for customers to visualize their final piece. He's returning to Disneyland this weekend, September 28-29 at the Disneyana Shop at Disneyland, to show off the new pieces in the Custom Names program, as well as some limited-edition and rare Disney pieces not previously offered for sale.

Custom Name Program

Dave explains the system better than I can, so I've borrowed his description.
Each letter has 5-9 choices with 3 complete alphabets (Mansion, Pirates and Castle). The name or word being created is written on the order form and the corresponding letter codes are written below each letter. I have a set of cut out paper versions of all the letters (like the "E" shown here) and once we have the letter choices I pull out the cut outs and lay out the word. This helps to show the guest what their name will look like and also gives me a chance to catch things that might not work well together (shapes, colors, etc). They then pick a background (Disneyland or Magic Kingdom) and a mat color (blue, green, red, pink or gold) and we're good to go.
You can only order these sculptures when Dave is at an Artist Showcase event, so plan ahead for holiday gifting. Dave will also be featured at the Festival of the Masters in Walt Disney World in November so East coast Disney fans can place orders there, but West coast fans should get their orders in this weekend. I know I have two gift plaques to order, so be sure to say hi if you see me there.
