Anaheim-area protests prompt relocation of Disney College Program housing

Rating: 3 votes, 5.00 average.
On the one-year anniversary of an officer involved shooting in Anaheim, the Answer Coalition is staging a demonstration in Downtown Anaheim on Sunday, July 21. The protest will start at 1 p.m. at Anaheim City Hall, about 2 miles from the Disneyland Resort, but just around the corner from the apartment complex which houses participants in Disney's College Program.

MousePlanet has learned that members of Disney's College Program were told to pack their essentials and report to the Disneyland Hotel for temporary housing assignments. Considering a protest last year turned into a small riot, with thousands of dollars of damage done to businesses all around the apartment complex, this seems like a very prudent move on Disney's part. Many of the College Program participants utilize public transportation to get to and from the Resort for their shifts, which could involve walking right through the protest zone depending on where the demonstration heads.

Last year, protestors organized a march from Anaheim City Hall to Disneyland, but were stopped just North of the Disneyland Resort by a line of police in riot gear stationed at the intersection of Ball and Harbor. Organizers of today's march have called for a peaceful demonstration, and have bussed demonstrators from San Diego and the Bay Area to participate.

College program participants were not told how long to expect to stay at the Disneyland Hotel, but it's safe to assume Disney won't ask them to return to their Downtown Anaheim apartments until this round of protests has ended.

We're waiting for more information from the City of Anaheim about today's protest.
