I have been trying to figure out what the E-ticket rides were when DL opened and I can't find it. I'm sure someone on here knows the answer and can satify my curriosity ;).

I could be wrong, but I thought they didn't have tickets when the park first opened. Guests just paid at each ride. When they started ticket books, they originally only went up to D tickets. I think E tickets started with the Matterhorn, monorail and Submarine.

E-Tickets weren't invented until 1959.

According to Yesterland (http://www.yesterland.com/abcde.html), the following rides were E-tickets in 1972:

Mine Train Ride (Frontierland)
Pack Mules (Frontierland)
Jungle River Cruise (Adventureland)
Disneyland-Alweg Monorail Trains (Tomorrowland)
Matterhorn Bobsleds (Fantasyland)
It’s a Small World presented by Bank of America (Fantasyland)
Enchanted Tiki Room presented by United Airlines (Adventureland)
Submarine Voyage (Tomorrowland)
Pirates of the Caribbean (New Orleans Square)
Country Bear Jamboree (Bear Country)
Haunted Mansion (New Orleans Square)

That sure is good to know. I couldn't think of anything that would have been an E-ticket and I guess that's because there weren't any. I had looked at Yesterland and saw the tickets from 1972 (a very good year I might add ;)), but couldn't find any earlier. I also tried googling it and nothing came up. Now I know why. Thanx guys! :)

According to Dave Smith's "Disney A-Z"

The E ticket first began in 1959 and the D ticket in 1956. But he doesn't list which rides those were.

According to other references E's started in 1959 and were the matternhorn, monorail and subs. And according to my parents we were there that year and rode them all, not that I remember.

I find it interesting that attractions that were worthy of an e-ticket in their time were not maintained/updated in a timely fashion to keep them going. I know the subs are back now but it was a long time in between. The other 3 seem to be permanently in Yesterland. It is too bad that they were let go, if they were so popular once.

Yes, but would you rather have the pack mules, or Big Thunder Mountain Railroad? :fez:

That's easy. The Pack Mules.

They're real, unlike a fake train on a "runaway ride through the old west" which only did the unexpected once (http://www.mouseplanet.com/btmrr_accident/030905btmrr.htm).

And like the horses on Main Street, they added atmosphere to the park.

It's not like there's a shortage of roller coasters at Disneyland...

As others have said, lettered tickets did not exist in 1955.

If what you're asking is what was the "Top" ride at Disneyland, I've read that Jungle Cruise was the "Big ride" at the time. It wasn't the corny-joke fest that it is today, instead it was presented as a national geographic style trek through the exotic rivers of the world.

I love me some Jungle Cruise, but it's hard to imagine it being the top ride at Disneyland! Ahh... simpler times...

No, I was wondering what ride someone would have used an E-ticket for. But I guess there weren't any. It is hard to think that Jungle Cruise was it in a few years though.
