Just got word that the ceremony to present Bob Gurr with his Main Street window ceremony is at 8:00 am Friday morning. This is before park hours, and so will not be open to the public, but visitors should be see the window for themselves once the park opens.

That  was a direct result of Googling "Bob Gurr" and getting a pageful of links, the first one of which answered the question posed.

Maybe

Look it up

would have been better.

What's so wrong with just telling someone who he is? I understand how repeated questions about the same thing can make someone  but I have no idea who he is either and I was going to ask the same thing.

I think his point was that a rudimentary google search would have answered the question in far less time than posting a question.

But since you asked, Bob was the imagineer behind the Monorail, Autopia, Peoplemover and the Omnimovers in the Haunted Mansion and Inner Space

Not that it really makes any difference, but I come down on the other side of this, in that it seems to be a completely reasonable question to ask who Bob Gurr is in a forum thread that just introduced him. Yeah, you could google. But you could also expect that some of the people here would already know who he is, and would be glad to explain to the less rabid who he is. Just cuz names like Gurr, Baxter, Ouimet and Rasulo mean something to us doesn't mean that everybody should automaticall know who they are.

While he's there someone should ask him how to fix the "new" monorails.

Zing!

Gimme a minute - I have photos that I'm uploading. It's a window AND a sign... ooooohhhhh

[Edit]Here are some of the photos from this morning's ceremony. All of these photos are courtesy of Disney. This was a private event for Bub Gurr and his friends and co-workers so we asked if we could just get official photos instead of crashing the ceremony.

Wow, thats some list! I am definitely going to make a point of checking those out. I guess I never really noticed because I am usually following the youngest through Main Street without ever actually looking around. LOL Now that I have seen the pic of Bob Gurr, I think that is one of the guys that was in a show I saw on TV about the building and development of DL and WDW. Can't remember what it was called but I wish I would have recorded it. It was a great peek into how it all happened.

Bob is a family friend, and is my best buddy's uncle. Every time we're at a family event, I end up off to the side with Bob listening to stories of Walt, the glory and challenges of the old days, and his ideas for the park today. He is also a dedicated pilot, a great designer/engineer, and an amazing artist!!

He's also happens to be one of the nicest most interesting guys I have ever had the pleasure to know.

FYI, the window is in the alley on the left side of Main St. where the Ice Cream shop and Locker Storage area is.

Have Fun!!

Way to go Uncle Bob!!!!

Oops, what I should have said is the EAST side of main street which is the RIGHT side if you are facing the castle, or the left side if you are leaving the park!

Congratulations to Bob Gurr! Thanks for posting the pictures!

I had the pleasure of meeting him and Harriet Burns at the Haunted Mansion event I was lucky to attend in February. I just found Ms. Burns' window and was all a twitter! I plan to be in the Parks on Thursday and I will for sure get pictures of Bob's sign.

Such a great honor, I am so happy for them! There are so many details on Main Street, as all over the Parks, lots of people just pass them by.

I just discovered Walt Disney's window and took a picture. I have a small collection of Main Street pictures now, it was something fun thing to do.

Ha, the comment made about someone never playing Mouseadventure hit the nail right on the head, during those competitions, details are EVERYTHING!
