Picture it: Disneyland August 28, 2002. A young woman steps into the Golden Horseshoe to watch her all-time favorite show. She's finally got her friend convinced to see the show and for the first time finds a seat in the front row. With her is her camera so that she can capture forever, the funny man they call Dana Daniels.

She sits down and notices the piano is facing the wrong direction. "Hmmm" she ponders. Then a cowboy (if that) steps out and begins the show. "Uhhhh" she spits out. Then more actors get into the act, by now she's stumped. "Where's the Variety show that's on the schedule?" She thinks to herself and leans over to tell her friend, "This isn't the right show."

Now I understand they change shows but...they didn't change the info on the all-inclusive map. So over to City Hall I go where I find a fellow behind the counter.

Me: Hi. Did they change the show permanently at the Golden Horseshoe?

Boy: Let's see. (takes out map) The Hill Billies are Mon, Th, Fri Sat & Sun. The Variety show is Tues & Wed.

Me: That wasn't the variety show I just saw. What happened to Dana Daniels?

Boy: I'm sorry you missed her.

Me: Have you ever seen the Variety show?

Boy: No.

Me: Dana is a MAN!

Boy: That's the Entertainment Dept (quick to point the blame elsewhere) Let me give you the address you can write to and maybe get an answer from them. Is that ok?

Me: Sure and I want to fill out a complaint form.

Anybody know what's going on? I'm done venting now. Except this one note...they REALLY need to tell their cast members what the heck goes on in the park.

I don't know what happened. Could very well be a "vacation day" or Dana maybe had a special gig come up.

To put the thread on a positive note - I absolutely love that show (and I love Billy Hill too.)

Had the pleasure of sitting up front and having my wife and son part of the show. Probably my all time greatest DL memory!!!!!!!

Dana Daniels was performing at the Golden Horseshoe on August 27th. He's performing in Reno at the Harrah's Casino and Resort for the Labor Day Holiday from August 28th to September 1st.

Dana Danels is scheduled to return to the Golden Horseshoe on September 3rd.

Hope this helps...

I first saw Dana Daniels when he was performing at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. (It's a private club, but it's pretty easy to get into if you ask around -- almost everybody in L.A. is a member, or knows one. As a guest you will have to fork out about $50 for dinner at the restaurant, which is quite good and compares favorably to $800 for a membership.) He was very funny, and did hysterical tricks with his "magic bird" Luigi, a smallish parrot-looking bird. Daniels is also a very good magician, but he is primarily a showman. An excellent one.

Check his Website (danadaniels. com) to see when he'll be back, or magiccastle.com for the performance schedule.
