Ok,
On Thursday I went on the Walk in Walt's Tour, (it was great)and our tour leader said that there would be some ride in the lagoon at lest by 2005! But, like always, everything is subject to change:mad: just thought you guys would want to know!

To add to that, there's a rumor that whatever they put into the Submarine Lagoon is going to cause a massive closure of TL sometime in the next couple years.
A side note on the same topic: Does anyone know what happened to that submersible craft that used to be in the Sub Voyage queue area?

I heard from a CM that if they were to do anything with the Sub Lagoon, they WOULD, in fact, have to dig up tunnels all over TL, and it would cause a giant closure of the area.... but it would still be very nice if they could somehow revive the lagoon, especially if they could minimize the interference with TL.

why...?
Maybe they could put up fences and catwalks where we could all still get to Space Mountain and Star Tours when they do all the digging. This is sort of what they did when the last "redisigning" of Tomorrowland was taking place.

Well, the only thing I've heard that would possibly shed some light on this is the rumor that underground leakage from the lagoon has caused enough erosion under parts of TL, that some, er... 're-construction' is neccessary. Now, if this is true, they'd need to fix the problem regardless of whether or not they put something back in that space. I've heard it from articles and CMs alike, but it may be just b.s.
...and that's all I have to say 'bout that.

I say close TL for however long it takes if it means a new attraction at some point. I can live with that.

I heard that the Lagoon was holding up the Matterhorn.

Hmmmm... didn't they get it from some university or research group? Mabey they had to give it back to them? Or it could be in the archives or stored somewhere backstage.

I'll agree with that. I definitely want to see something added to the Lagoon area, it's just going to waste at this point. I was a fan of the Sub Voyage as a kid, I would love to see the Sub theme continued or even updated in whatever attraction Disney decides to put in there. Here's hoping.. :)

They have been talking about something going in there "at least by 2000". I highly doubt that anything will go in there, at least during the current management.:crying:

I heard that the Lagoon was holding up the Matterhorn.
I've heard that rumor a number of times, but what makes it seem so improbable to me is that I distinctly recall, sometime in the 1980s, seeing the whole thing drained for repainting.

The woid is " dominoes " ( not the pizza :p )
The monorail supports go in and around the logoon as
well as the people mover -er- excuse me - ex rocket
rod supports. If digging out the lagoon is necessary
( which seems feasible to design in a new E ticket
attraction ) side slip, sinking, etc etc would be a very major concern. The neighbor attractions affected would have to be modified or prepared, this moved here, that moved there and so on and so forth. Then, water leakage is probelmatical as it more than likely affects the substrata and anything below ground
nearby. get the idea? It gets messy real fast...
During previous posts, I have suggested a Center
of the Earth type attraction. A Splash - Space Mt - Thunder Mt
TRON - on board binaura sound hybrid. Speed, water, wheels, rails and music!!! :D

That said, it only seems logical to modify the current structures in that area and make use of them - - so as not to set off a domino effect with new construction - - which also makes enhancements more cost effective!
Let's see a revised Submarine Voyage/20,000 Leagues with modified Nautilus-style subs and new effects - - and a repurposed PeopleMover/Buzz Lightyear target game, and Aquatopia (or Little Mermaid) in place of currently abandoned attractions in that area. All of this can be done without sinking the Matterhorn or Carousel.
Yes, the lagoon was indeed drained for some months for a rehab during the 80's - - so it is possible.

I think they should close the whole thing anyway.... Tomorrowland's in horrible shape. It's dirty, and there are no rides. If they closed the entire thing for a year, they could make it worthy again.

Oh, is Tomorrowland completely closed? I hadn't noticed.
That would be my reaction to closing the ravished land for a year or more. Let's see, we've got Star Tours with the tired old film from the first trilogy of 2 decades ago. Then we've got Space Mountain which, without the music, is far worse than if we'd never had the music in the first place (we didn't know what we were missing and we liked the ride back then - now, without the sound, it's pathetic). Let's see, then we've got . . . uh, um, a really bad update of Autopia and, and, and . . . absofreakinlutely nothing!
Shutter the whole land, tear it all down, start from scratch. Don't give us some half-baked "Discovery Land" with junk from the last turn of the century. We want Tomorrowland! And we want it tomorrow. (Or a year from tomorrow).
As for no new rockets, no safety gates, no rehab at all till 2004 - - well, I have half a mind to jump off the loading platform in front of an oncoming rocket. Let's see how fast we get safety gates then.

Even some sort of fountain show would be preferable over what it is now (think Bellagio on a smaller scale).

Don't knock Discovery Land. Have you ever seen it in person? It's gorgeous, and squarely in the Disney spirit of imparting wonder. We're not talking cobwebs here, the Jules Verne theme is pretty powerful to experience in person. Besides, SM totally rocks over there.;)

Sorry, I did not mean to knock Discovery Land. I admired the concept from way back when it was meant for an addition to Disneyland as Discovery Bay.
I simply meant that it's no replacement for Tomorrowland. I'm sure there is plenty of beauty, fun, excitement and adventure in the Discovery Land concept, but the forward looking, futuristic, hope-inspiring, adventurous wonder of Disney's best 'tomorrow' work (1967-1986 Disneyland Tomorrowland; 1983 - 1995 Epcot Futureworld) has been, in my opinion, the absolute high point of Disney theme park art and achievement.
It's very hard to keep up with the future; that's why Tomorrowland has been left to rot on the vine and FutureWorld has been decimated. Disney has given up on the prospect of constant revisions to look toward to future, and has turned toward the much cheaper method of 'looking back at tomorrow.' It's sad, that's all. It's anti-progess, anti-guest, and anti-Walt.
