We heard hwy 5 at the Grapevine was closed today from snow. Does anyone know if it was for very long? We're driving down from No Cal and from the looks of the weather it should be crummy the whole weekend. Does the Grapevine close often? Disneyland looks rather wet all week as well. Does that mean IASW, Alice, Teacups, Canel boats, Dumbo, etc will also be closed ?

"iasw" is closed until at least late November, 2008 to replace the flume and the boats.

In rain, the Tea Cups, Alice, and Tom Sawyer Island are closed, as is the Big Thunder Ranch (which is currently closed for refurb anyways).

The Canal Boats usually run in the rain, unless it is real heavy. It does close down prior to parades every day due to traffic control issues (and reopens, usually closed 1 hour prior to a parade, and reopens about 20 minutes after it is over).

Dumbo is one that usually runs, unless the rain is heavy.

You can check with Cal Trans (http://www.caltrans.ca.gov) for I-5 info.

If the grapevine is closed there is another route that I think is still a better alternative to 101, its thru the Tehachappi (sp) Pass and around and let you out on 5 after Magic Mt near the 405 cut off. Allow about an extra hour and half. Our family had to use this the year the Grapevine closed for quite awhile when the snow on the grapevine caused part of the highway to collapse and we used it a week or so later when it still wasnt open.

Have the morning news on, currently both the Grapevine and Highway 58 are closed due to weather.

Just to clarify and expand a bit of what Darkbeer said, the only weather restrictions in FL for rain are Alice and the Tea Cups. Even heavy rain won't shut down Dumbo or Storybook Land. Now lightening--that's another story. I don't remember for sure, but it seems Dumbo might have a high winds restriction.

As far as Storybook closing for the parade, it does stop admitting new guests about an hour before the first thing going down the route (so if a band is coming at 3:15, the line will close around 2:15, if not a little earlier). It does reopen as soon after the parade as possible, usually while the second show stop is still going on (with the last float by Alice in Wonderland). Once the parade passes the dock, it might be 5 minutes before the line is open again.

Coming in the rain is great--lines are non-existent!

One of these days, I want to go to Disneyland in the rain. Maybe it's because I am usually there in the Summer (with everyone else) when it is hot.

Short lines and colder temperatures? Sounds good to me! :)

I personally rather enjoy the rainy days (as long as it is not a huge downpour) but we're bring a friend who has not been since she was 5 (now teen) and I'm hoping for a mild rain or one day of at least a bit of a let up. We were stuck in a 2 day downpour 2 yrs ago with a newborn and it was a nightmare. No matter what it is still Disneyland and it beats shoveling snow!!!

The 11 PM news just reported to not expect the Grapevine to open until early next week....

The 5 is open right now, traffic started being escorted over at about 7 AM and it opened fully at 8 AM. But another six inches is expected to be dropped on Frazier Park today, so more closures are expected. Hopefully the storm isn't as bad as they think it is, or it doesn't come at all, we are supposed to head over (from Bakersfield) to see Garth Brooks in LA tomorrow.

Worried you couldn't get to Disneyland this weekend because of the Interstate 5 closure through the Grapevine? Well, today, Mickey Mouse is in your reach. ...

I think our best bet is to cut across to 14 and hit 5 in the valley. Then I'll only need my portable "Arc" kit!!

I have to laugh at the amount of snow that brings the pass to a grinding halt. That is a normal day at our house!!!
Thanks for all the updates.

Thanks for all the updates. When are you driving it? It is currently open. They expect to close it at night adn have it open in the daylight hours, unless the snow starts again. The big thing is there is no real place to have people chain up. Taking 58 out to 14 an back in to 5 only adds about 90 mins. but the guy who came here said with all the traffic yesterday it added 4 hours to the trip for him.

We are leaving tomorrow from Sacramento about 1 pm so I expect we will hit the Grapevine after dark. On the map it looked like the best alternate route was to take 58 but not if it is going to take an extra 4 hours! Does anyone have any other recommendations for an alternate route?

Tomorrow, that area is supposed to "calm down" as far as weather. Sunday will be hit again, then a break for a while. You will probably be ok going over, just take it slow and easy. The other "detour" would be going out to 101, but that will be worse. The driver who came to us was coming out of LA to N Ca. My understanding, coming this direction, there is a left turn onto 58 that took over 45 minutes to get thru.

I'm going to take 395 (Sunday AM) to 14 and avoid 5 until the Valley. I don't want to take a chance on the Grapevine. They could decide use CHP escort too and I don't want to waste time with that.

Don't know when you are planning on going back. 395 is closed in certain areas.
