I just finished watching a podcast that showed the transformation of the Disney Gallery into a perk for a the YOMD contest. It reminded me of how much I enjoyed sitting on that balcony and just watching the activity on the ROA.

It got me to wondering, after the YOMD finally goes away, what do you think they'll do with the suite? Do you think it'll be available to the public? I wonder how much they'd charge per night?

Has anyone heard about the logistics of how they are going to implement a stayover? The only thing they mentioned in the podcast was that you had to stay the night the prize was awarded. I'm wondering what other restrictions will need to be in play?

I can't imagine that they would want the guests being able to roam around DL unsupervised at night. So either they post a 'guard' or they have to monitor your door. Will you have your own host/hostess for room service?

What else have folks heard?

Supposedly, it's going to be something anyone can rent, run by the people who run the Grand Californian.

Maybe they'll have a host/hostess that will escort you around the park after hours as an added perk. Otherwise I can see security issues with people wanting to 'check out DL' after hours, this would be one way of adding a perk and also after the 'tour' enforcing the NO LEAVING the room policy. Without this I would imgine people would 'test' the security, but if a after hours escorted tour was allowed they could prevent those issues?

Maybe they'll have a host/hostess that will escort you around the park after hours as an added perk. This is pretty much how it's been explained to me. There will be a host or hostess assigned to the room whenever a guest is staying there. They will have their own room in the suite - it's the room that was once the office for the Gallery. That person will be able to arrange for room service, after-hour tours, whatever.

After hours tours would be amazing!

I wonder what a typical schedule would be for a guest who gets picked?

Assume that you could actually enter the room at around 3pm. Somehow the guest would need to ferry their luggage from their hotel to the suite. I'm sure if you were at DLR hotel, they'd manage that for you. If not, a bit more of a pain.

Then you will need to get a parking spot.

During the evening, you have in-and-out privileges. I wonder where the main door will be? Any word on what the old entry to the DG will be used for?

Then after hours, you take your 'after hours tour'. And then before ~10am you need to be packed up and ready to go.

It seems more like an exilirating/exciting time instead of a relaxing one. :)

Now if you could sign up for several days, that'd be a bit different.

For what it's worth, one of the Disney gallery CM's told me that there was a backdoor entrance for the apartment that had been built for Walt so that he could drive in backstage, park his car, and walk upstairs to the apartment without going onstage.

This could be handy for guests who want to slip out for any reason during the night.

never heard that. i did take one of the disney gallery tours where it was explained the apartment was meant to have a private entrance to club 33 which they did point out. i don't recall offhand where the apartment entrance was meant to be.

as it is, those staircases that lead to the entrance of the disney gallery were never part of the apartment. they were added under the direction of tony baxter specifically for the disney gallery. and i guess they're staying to continue to serve as the entrance for the 'new' apartment.

i'd be quite certain there'd be a security host on hand anyway. the same deal happens at CRT when one is awarded the cinderella suite - they have time in the park after close, but they're not allowed to linger outside all night.

The onstage entrance to the apartment was through the Royal Courtyard on Royal Street, between One-Of-A-Kind and Pieces of Eight.

The "private entrance to Club 33" led to the Club 33 kitchen. That door was in the dining room, half of which had been ceded to Club 33 before the Gallery closed. Even money says that room is all Club 33 kitchen nowadays.

The backstage entrance to the apartment was through one of the two doors at the back of the patio. One door (the one on the right) leads to a passageway that goes up to the porch on the second level, the other leads to bathrooms and the backstage staircase.

Given how anal DLR has been about backstage tours, I have a hard time believing they'd let guests drive backstage.

You may be right. But if I were staying in that apartment after park closing, I'd MUCH prefer taking a backstage stairway to get out rather than walking all the way through Adventureland and up Main Street and then finding somebody to let me out the main gate.

What if you won the chance to stay and you had an additional person (child) in your party- could you still stay?
Wishful thinking :)

I think I'll find it a little strange, walking through N.O. Square, knowing that there are guests staying up in the old gallery. I'm not sure I dig the idea too much. My opinion.

According to a former Gallery CM, the cost for renting the suite will be $4000 per nite and will be available to VIPS, etc. Obviously can't confirm but that is what I was told:eek:

Just my two cents, but I doubt you'd find the park after/before hours as exciting as you think it is. I worked right under the Dream Suite over the summer (Royal St. Veranda) and often had closing shifts. This meant I left as late as 2 am. I'll black this out just for those who don't want to know what happens after hours... Once the guests have left and the music is turned off, the park buzzes with maintenance and custodial crews. I've seen them repainting, replacing bricks in the ground, replacing plants...the whole shebang. Don't know about you, but it wasn't all that magical to me.

Seeing as how I'm not a CM anymore (at least until summer again), I'm currently eligible to win, so I'd definitely take the chance to win a stay in the Dream Suite, regardless.

The Imagineer leading our group's tour said that they may allow charities to use the suite after the year is over - I'm not sure if that meant for fundraising purposes or to actually award dreams.

I don't know about anyone else ,but it felt like they took another piece of Mr. Disney away from us the public. I'm glad they finished his home away from home. But once again it feels like The "new" disney seems to only cater to vips anymore.I hope this is not true.

It would be nice if it was opened for tours instead! I loved the gallery, I miss it a lot! I only got to visit it a few times before they took it away, but love to see the view from there and it felt like you were just a little closer to Disneyland's dreamer .I'll miss it.
Maybe some of the Mp familey will get lucky enough the win a stay!

AVP,
Will you (or someone else) post more information from the Media Event today?

Well, I seem to recall a website, something like project insomnia that used to host a bunch of "backstage photos". It was fun to look at photos of things you don't normally see.

Who knows what you may end up seeing. I think it'd be fun just to see things you don't normally see. Maybe you'd get to watch them practicing Fantasmic! or maybe testing a new effect?

No doubt this is a silly question, but one that I have been wondering about.

Since the winner stays the night they win, without any warning, what does the winner do about PJs, a toothbrush, and other such things?

So - with all of the photos and the video from OC Register - no one seemed to show off the "end of the night" toy train. In the promo video on the vidcast the imagineers talked about, and demoed, a toy train that when you push the button to say I am done for the night its supposed to go all around the main room of the suite, enable toys along the way, then come back to the display case.

well, in the updates I have seen online so far - no pics of this train nor any description of it - only the bedroom auto-sequence and the bathroom. Did they not implement it, not show it off, or what?

If they are staying at a Disneyland Resort Hotel, there is a "dream vehicle" which will take them back to their hotel to collect their luggage. I'm not sure exactly the arrangements if they are staying off property, but I'm sure Disney will help facilitate whatever.

If you're a local... go home and grab some stuff? Run to Target? Wear the same clothes two days in a row?
