Just want to give folks a heads-up, the weather forecasters are predicting strong Santa Ana winds, which will more than likely force the fireworks to be cancelled due to safety issues.

The National Weather Service has refined its long-term forecast and now says that ”potentially damaging” Santa Ana winds will blow for three days next week, starting on Tuesday and lasting all the way through Thanksgiving, with gusts as high as 80 mph in Fremont Canyon, above the Anaheim Hills. The winds will blow nearly as hard in nearby Santiago Canyon, where more than 28,000 acres of land burned during the October wildfires.

Forecasters say the winds will ease somewhat by Thursday — which is Thanksgiving — but that gusts of 50 to 60 mph are possible. The relative humidity is expected to fall way below 20 percent. And red flag wildfire warnings are expected to be issued.

“There could be changes in the forecast, but this is how it looks now,” says Dan Atkins, a weather service forecaster. “We wanted to give people a heads up going into the holiday.”

These are predicted to be “cold” Santa Ana winds. The daytime temperature is suppose to be as much as 25 degrees colder than this week, but still with dangerously low humidity.
