The last time we visited DL, my wife and I went on Indy. As we walked through the queue, she asked my about the strange markings that you see written on the walls. I explained that when Indy first opened, decoder cards were distributed, in the park and in the LA Times, to help you decipher what the markings said.

So... That made me wonder, who else remembers those decoder cards?(sponsored by AT&T)

And, does anyone here still have one of those original cards?

I remember! Should have kept the card though, was young and didn't care what was on the walls...just wanted to ride!

What I would like is a list of all the phrases and text scattered throughout the queue, decoded (minus the Imagineer initials).

At the 10th anniversary Indy event in 2005, some of the quests involved decoding Mara script. Here's the sheet they gave us, with the translation code on it. (http://www.colddeadfish.net/images/IJEvent/064.jpg) Once you get used to it, it's actually not all that hard to learn, and after a while, you don't even need the decoder.

My best friend has an original decoder card that she carries in her wallet (ask GrouchoMarx--she pulled it out last week for him). One day we stopped at each spot and decoded everything we could. I still remember a lot of them (Only the pure of heart shall gain admittance into the Chamber of Destiny; Mara shall guide you through the tunnel of your most secret desire in the Chamber of Destiny; Beware the eye of Mara: One look shall send you through the through the tunnel of torment into the gates of doom; Real rewards await those who choose wisely).

Here is a picture of the full set of 3 cards given out...
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/6558/decodercardsij5.jpg

The top card is the rarest, It was given out only during the first few days of the debut. I saw a lot discarded on the ground and trampled on!, but kept mine knowing people were throwing away a future collectible. The bottom card is the most common. I have a bunch of the middle and bottom variations, The top card, I only have a couple from opening week.

thats funny I saw this post just last night my family and I were talking about this. sad thing though my daughter who is 7 past the height to get in the ride at the front but when we got to the ride they said she could not go on it they have done this twice to her now she gets so sad I think the height stick next to the ride is higher then the one out side.

I remember those cards! The jungle cruise guides used to say "and there is the temple of the three hour line!". It was so true! No fast pass then either so decoders where a nice way to pass the time. Now we usually get through it too fast to decode.

But has anyone seen the Eyore in the film room? A CM told us where it was last time but we couldn't see it cause you need a flashlight she said and didn't have one. It was put there in memory of the Eyore and friends parking lot it replaced.

I remember I went to Disneyland when I was 6 and Indiana Jones had opened recently and I wanted to go on it so badly! I remember I passed the height stick outside, but inside the ride, I was the last one, about to get in the car, and a CM was like "no she's too small" and sent me outside! Except they didn't grab one of my parents or tell them! I had to sit outside the ride by myself waiting for them! They were really worried, they had no idea where I'd gone!

I've seen it, and yes you do need a flashlight. The sign is up in the projector booth, but from the right angle and with enough light you can spot it.

I was there when it opened and for the soft opening before the official one as well. I kept all my cards. Does anyone remember the spikes in the ceiling trick still working in the queue?

I've seen Eeyore, Mickey, and Indy all in the projector room.

The spike effect was working not that long ago. It's kind of hit or miss whether it's working or not. It hasn't been lately because the bamboo pole that you pull to make the ceiling come down has been out.

I think it's more hit or miss whether the spike room is working on not. On one visit I'll yank on the pole and nothing happens. On another visit I'll yank and "CRASH THUNDER BOOM!" I kinda like that it's random; it leaves me with the idea that it's not broken. :)

Sometimes, it's not a matter of being broken. It takes a while to reset, so if you'll pulling on the pole while it's in the reset stage, nothing is going to happen. If you listen for a while as you're coming up on it, you'll be able to tell if someone else has pulled it and whether it's in reset mode or just not working.

I am hoping they bring back the pole, but not the rubbery pole (it was just too fake), but a solid one that is more like a switch so you lean on it and it s causing the crash. It would have to move slowly though so someone doesn't slip when using it for balance (can you say lawsuit).

(oh, and thanks for the link to the translations).

I have seen Eeyore. But has anyone here seen the one skeleton in the room full of skeletons that is wearing mouse ears? Supposedly, the name "Bones" is embroidered on the hat.

He's easiest to see if you are in the back row on the far left (as you face the front of the car). You have to look left and a little bit behind you to see him.

There used to be a web site that had the whole thing decoded out, but I can't find it anymore. Maybe a creative Google search will turn something up.

Now that I know where to look, I can see him from any seat in the car. And I look every time. It's turned into a habit!

Found something, but it looks like it was originally supposed to have Mara script followed by the translation immediately below. Now it just has the same lines twice in English. It goes through the entire queue area in order:
