We are going to see them today..... A friend of mine saw them yesterday and she said that they had first aid there passing out ice packs to keep people cool..... Its just tooo bad they are being so cheap about the concert series. They could have AT LEAST added shade for the audience.

I saw it today, and it was very good. The lineup started at about 12:30, but we joined the line at 2:00 and ended up standing behind the railing. In a way, we had a better view than the people in the seats, since there was a "mosh pit" which formed in front of the seats, blocking the view. The only obstruction we had was a small tree, but it was no big deal. There were also people lined up along the bridge to Paridise Pier and in Avalon Cove, and the performers did turn around to acknoledge them.

The sound system is very loud, and they were overdriving the speakers to the point that the sound was distorting. They were actually painfully loud, and my ears were ringing afterwards for about half an hour. The performance itself was excellent. The Beach Boys played all their big hits, and actually went almost a full hour (54 minutes by my watch). They got in several jabs at Napster and Eminem as well. The 3:30 and 5:30 sets were actually slightly different, although they played their big hits like California Girls and Kokomo at both.

It was a bit hot at 3:30, but as long as you kept well hydrated, it was fine. Most of the line was in the shade (over in the Pacific Wharf area), and clouds did start to roll in. The 5:30 show was even cooler.

For another review, see my post in DCA Concerts - Crowds?. I'd attach a link to that thread or post my quote, but I haven't learned how to do that yet. Sorry.

I saw the first half of the 3:30 set on Sunday, but after 4, the heat started to get to me. I had to go over to the Grand Californian and take a nap to recover. I'm not a huge Beach Boys fan so there was nothing terribly impressive about this concert. I wouldn't recognize any of them on the street. The crowd seemed to like it though. Loved the "Michael Bolton on speed" comment. Nice and un-Disneylike.

The show was, um, okay. I enjoyed hearing the songs, though they were highly over-amplified. I was definitely glad to see at least one original in the band.

They might want to reconsider and have the shows at later times, like maybe 5:30 and 7 pm or something as 3:30 is a really warm time during the day. I can't imagine what it will be like in August when it seems to be warmer. Maybe they wil add sprinklers to hose down the guests?

I also wanted to stress something I posted earlier. The concert is very very very loud. Not only were they overdriving the speakers to the point of distortion, but it was loud enough to be painful. I had my fingers in my ears the whole time, and I still left the concert with my ears ringing, and had trouble hearing the rest of the day. There was no reason it had to be that loud, especially considering that there were plenty of speakers being used in the performance corridor, so only the people in the small ampatheater needed to hear the large blue ones on the stage.

I'd like to add that the whole lighting rig on the ceiling of the stage was completely worthless due to the fact that the concert took place in broad daylight. They really should consider moving all future concerts to the evening. It would make the whole experience more pleasant.

I totally agree with you Uncle Dick that the concerts should be in the late afternoon and evenings when not only it should be cooler, but you could enjoy the lighting. I saw the lights turning around with nice colors, but since it was in the middle of the day, I thought it was a waste. I am planing on seeing some of the other concerts. And I would hope that they would take what people are saying and put the concerts later in the day and evenings.

You have got to be kidding me? They actually have a lighting rig? I supposed I probably saw it, but did not realize the stupidity in having extensive lighting for 2 daytime concerts. If I'm not mistaken, lighting is best utilized when the blinding sun is not available, or to highlight the lead performer when it's relatively dark.

Anyways...the times of these shows is all screwed up. If they had any sense, they would have better designed them to work around potential problems. Do the people on these message boards have more sense than the powers that be who get paid to think?

The solution....schedule the first show at 5:00, and the second at 7:15. That way you can conclude the second show by 8:00-8:15, and prepare for the Electrical Parade at 9:00 PM. By doing this, you keep people around a little longer, and the later show times certainly help with the heat factor. These times are much more beneficial to AP's who actually may have other obligations which prevent them from arriving by 5:30 so they can see the second show. Maybe their motivation is to avoid pleasing the AP's, and figure the current times work better for the average tourist.

Whatever the reason...the timing of the shows is lousy, and should be adjusted. They won't be, because nothing so simple could ever be expected...but it's basically going to keep me away from a couple of weekday shows I would normally go to see, and the resulting $ I would certainly spend while at the park. Am I not alone?

The 5 PM concert wouldn't work with the current Eureka schedule, but let's look at some options....

Let's see, current schedule

3:30 PM First Concert

4:45 PM Eureka Parade

5:45 PM Second Concert

Why not this schedule

7:45 PM First concert

9:00 PM Disney's Electrical Parade

9:45 PM Second Concert

Or this one....

4:45 PM Eureka Parade

5:45 PM First Concert

7:45 PM Second Concert

9:00 PM Disney's Electrical Parade

Personally, I would MUCH prefer to have dinner and wine PRIOR to the concert, especially if I was escorting a young lady... dinner and wine sets the mood for the concert, something that isn't the same now, concert, then dinner...

Heck, somebody offers me a cold beer or a warm beer, I know which I prefer..... I think if you asked the people who attend the last few days if they had the choice of the above three schedules, that the later schedules would get MANY votes, especially the weekday concerts (so people could go after work)....

Now do I drink warm beer, yes (Heck my mother's side is from England)...but I prefer cold beer, especially on hot summer days!

The first option does not work because the park does not stay open that late, and the 2nd concert would not end until at least 10:30. The other option cuts it too close with the Electrical Parade.

Why not just make the parade at 3:30 or 4:00, and then the concerts at 5 and 7:15.

This discussion is pointless because nothing will be changed. Disney appears to make their decisions in a vaccum, and they end up being final. Hasn't that been their pattern more or less?
