I read in a book that part of the old DL parking lot was not DL property and was being lease because the owner didn't want to sell. (Paradise Pier now sits on that a piece of land.) Does anyone know if this is true? Does Disney own it now? I have never heard about this and I've read a LOT of Disney trivia.

I heard a similar rumor several years ago- - but the land in question in the version I heard is on the South-West corner of DCA.

I am curious - what book did you read that in??

This rumor keeps popping up like an urban myth every few years or so...
In my opinion...
I have never been able to find any REAL information on it. I suppose it is possible that once upon a time Disney might have leased a section of land for the old parking lot - or even a portion of the Paradise Pier parking lot. There was a time where Disney did not own any of the hotels or land around the park. But I doubt they would actually BUILD any part of the resort on land that they didn't actually own.

Jim Hill mentions in his blog here:

It's at the bottom of the article.

Good point. I read it in Magic Quizdom By Kevin Yee
