From a Disneyland press release:

THE DISNEYLAND® RESORT INTRODUCES
'THE HAPPIEST BIRTHDAYS ON EARTH!'
Three New Ways For Guests to Celebrate

ANAHEIM, CA, July 2, 2002 – The DISNEYLAND Resort in Anaheim, California will soon become the home of “The Happiest Birthdays on Earth!” with three new birthday programs. Beginning Thursday, July 4, guests are invited to celebrate their birthdays with a selection of new, customized birthday parties offered throughout the Resort, it was announced by Mary Niven, vice president of food and beverage, DISNEYLAND Resort.

“DISNEYLAND has a treasured history as a place where families share memorable moments of their lives,” noted Niven. “We have found that on any given day, many of our guests come to the park to celebrate their birthdays. Recognizing that they’re visiting us for these special occasions, we’ve created more ways to help them celebrate."

While the Resort already offers ways to make guests’ birthdays even more fun, such as made-to-order cakes and pre-packaged birthday parties, these three new programs begin July 4:

“My Disneyland Birthday Party”

DISNEYLAND park debuts all-new birthday festivities at the Plaza Inn restaurant on Main Street, U.S.A. It’s “My Disneyland Birthday Party,” a daily celebration featuring music and merriment, where a comical baker -- host “Pat E. Cake” -- leads guests in cake-decorating fun, and Mickey and Minnie Mouse make a special appearance. Everyone in attendance receives a party hat, souvenir sipper cup, plus their own mini-birthday cake, complete with sides of icing and toppings. The price is $10 per person, and seatings are at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. daily. Priority seating is available.

Birthday Magic at Full-Service Restaurants

Birthday celebrants can find birthday magic in the form of a “Sorcerer Mickey Birthday Bucket” at full-service restaurants in DISNEYLAND, DISNEY'S CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE™ park or the DISNEYLAND Resort Hotels. The Birthday Bucket is topped with an individual-sized birthday cake and inside, there are treats like stickers, a collectible toy and a “Happy Birthday” cloisonné pin. The Birthday Bucket is $20, and can be arranged in advance. (Not available at DOWNTOWN DISNEY® District restaurants.)

Fantasy Celebration Events

Guests who want to customize their birthday event can turn to the “Fantasy Celebration Events” specialists. They coordinate every detail and help make dreams come true in a variety of locations and themes. Fantasy Celebration themes include:

“Build a Princess” - A birthday girl receives a crown and a note that proclaims her an “honorary princess." Throughout a tour of the Resort, princess gifts are layered on (costume jewelry, flowers and a dress), the youngster encounters various Disney princesses, and the day culminates with a birthday dinner attended by a Disney princess.

“A Birthday Blast, To Infinity and Beyond!” - Guests are whisked away to adventures in DISNEYLAND park as "Astro Command Trainees," capped by a visit from Buzz Lightyear.

“A Screamin’ Birthday Party” - DISNEY'S CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE provides the screams and thrills for guests with a tour of exciting attractions and a dinner cruise.

"Fantasy Celebrations" are $100 per person and a 30-day notice is requested.

Guests can also enjoy these current ways to celebrate:

With "Goofy's Kitchen Birthday Bags" at Goofy’s Kitchen in the Disneyland Hotel, guests receive a balloon, party hat, souvenir Goofy pen, toy maraca, puzzle, plus an individual cupcake for the birthday boy or girl.

A "Redd Rockett's Birthday Party" at Redd Rockett's Pizza Port in DISNEYLAND includes an entrée meal, a reserved table, party hats, balloons, party favors, individual cupcakes topped with a character toy, and a birthday button for the child of honor. Parties can be booked for 6 to 20 people.

Guests planning to celebrate a birthday at Resort restaurants can pre-order a cake created by the Disney bake staff. An array of cake sizes and designs are available with at least 48-hours notice at participating restaurants in the three Resort hotels and Plaza Inn in DISNEYLAND.

To make arrangements for any of the birthday celebrations offered throughout the DISNEYLAND Resort, or for more information, call (714) 781-DINE. Admission is required for parties in the theme parks.

I think its great that they do more for the Birthday folks.

When I inquired about birthday celebrations, they told me about the Goofy's kitchen and the cake you can buy, etc....but it still didn't seem like a celebration.

This may cost more...but it's great. I wish they had this when my children were younger. I would have definitely have done one of them.

A Screamin' Birthday Party at DCA mentions that there wil be a dinner CRUISE??? Cruise as in boat, and water? Where will they do this? In the bay? Maybe I'm reading this wrong cause I don't get it.

This doesn't sound like a bad deal, you even get a sipper cup!

I can see me now, decorating my cake in my gloves. ;)

Okay, first of all, I have tears in my eyes........next year we're going down there for Cassidy's fifth birthday and I'm dying over the Princess for a Day concept. How special is that?!?!?! I was planning to do the Practically Perfect Tea, but this sounds so much cooler! Last fall when she wore her Minnie Mouse dress that we got at DTD home on the plane, with the ears and all, she was so dang happy. She ate up the attention and was in "character" the whole time. So precious! But reading over the options, knowing my little girl, she'd opt for the Buzz Lightyear one instead.....

When we went for Courtney's fifth, we spent bank on a Goofy's Kitchen Bday ($25 a person per meal, including two whole balloons, plus $20 for a tiny cake, and no goodies!) That was one costly little brunch. And let's face it, not all that special......;)

But, I'm all for that Princess tour and dinner. That sounds so wonderful! I'm going to start saving for it right now. She doesn't need to go to college someday, does she? :D

Well there are Party boat style crafts that appear to be working boats (they may have been for Luminaria) and they are docked under the bridge that went into PP and was right by Avalon Cove. But I don't know if those are going to be used. :)

I'm planning on going to Disneyland on my b-day, and I was wondering where you get those birthday stickers I see people wearing all the time. Can I get them at the board, or is it somewhere else? I've seen the stickers for years, but I've never bothered to ask where they are from. Also, besides a full package of tortillas at DCA, does anyone know any other special things that happen on your b-day? I'm going alone, and I'm looking to enjoy myself that day.

Just go to City Hall (DL)/Guest Relations (DCA) to get a sticker. :)

All this sounds great, and well long over due. However the Princess for a day sounds awesome, but the boys kinda get the short end of the stick if you ask me.

I recently went for my birthday, but didn't know about the tortillas! When I got my sticker at guest relations, I also got a birthday call from Goofy. In the past, I've gotten a free dessert when my family had lunch at Blue Bayou.
When I took my niece for her 5th birthday, she got a sticker, a call from Goofy, a free cookie at the Boudin Bakery, AND, the CM at City Hall in Disney asked who her favorite character is. At the end of the day, there was an autographed picture to her from Minnie waiting at City Hall for us to pick up!
Does anyone know why some people have birthday BUTTONS rather than stickers?

On Courtney's fifth birthday, along with the Goofy phone call and sticker, Pooh's CM escort told her that Pooh had something special for her at the store and to go in and tell them that Courtney was there. The CM's sang Happy Birthday to her and gave her a note (that someone quickly scribbled her name on....) from Pooh. It was copy of a copy, but it did its job. She walked around all day, telling everyone that Pooh wrote her a birthday letter. It was very cute.

Also, since we had eaten at Goofy's that morning, the Mad Hatter had spent a lot of time bugging her and teasing her, so when she saw him at Disneyland, she assumed he would remember her. (was a different guy altogether) Thankfully she had a Goofy's Kitchen button on, so he immediately caught on and said, "Didn't I meet you this morning at breakfast?" She was so thrilled. (This happened to her again our last trip, except it actually WAS the same guy) Anyway, he had Alice and all the people standing in our area sing Happy Birthday to her, then he escorted her over to the Carousel, where he had people move out of the way, so she could get on. Keep in mind this was early March, on a fairly rainy day, so there were like 12 people in line. It was very cute.

Other peoples' experiences may vary. But we were really lucky.

I still want my girls to be princesses for a day though......;)

My daughter would love that "Build a Princess." But is the $100/person for each "princess" or for each person in the party? So if there's 4 people in the party and only one person is going to be the "princess," do we pay $100 or $400?

Pooh, we've gotten Birthday Buttons when staying at one of the Resort Hotels. Upon checking in I told them it was my Fiancees birthday and they gave us a button and wrote his name on it so he could wear it on his birthday (which was the next day). I think the sticcker is what you can get if you're at the park for the day.

Just remember - you have to pay entrance fees for anyone you want to bring with you....another good reason to be friends with APers. :D This isn't exactly cheap for non-Disney geeks.

We were there on Wednesday, and saw a large group of guests with Sorceror party hats in a roped off section of the Plaza Inn. Looks like they started at least one day early!

I told my mom about the Princess for a Day thing and she was practically in tears imagining sweet little Cassidy as a special princess.....then she quickly said, too bad there's no Buzz and Woody thing or a Darth Vader breakfast or something, that's more her style.....so true!

We're still saving up though! Bill, I'm kinda thinking it's $100 per person, period. So for us I'm planning at least $400! I need to get some specifics....... and of course hope that they'll continue it til next April!

I saw the birthday area at the Plaza Inn together. The whole outdoor seating area was basically enclosed in these new planter thingys (I was wondering why they tore out the old landscaping) which totally ruin any view of the walkway or parade. The whole outdoor seating area at the Plaza Inn was surrounded by signs proclaiming "The Happiest Birthdays on Earth". Must have been one heck of the party!
