Which Tahoe Ski resort do you fly over?

The name of the resort will suffice.

This shouldn't have to be written, but if you don't know you don't have to share that unless you really want to. (This last sentence above was added after the post below was posted.)

Someone once said it was Heavenly. But, not 100% there.

I love Heavenly! It's the only Tahoe resort I've skied. But I don't remember seeing anyone skiing on the film on the lake side of the mountain and Heavenly has many lake-view trails.

I am almost positive it is Heavenly. If it isn't I have no idea at all what other resort it might be.

I was thinking it could be Heavenly. I can't remember what the pre-boarding video shows, though. And I just went a couple weeks ago. :)

They are skiing the backside. If they showed people skiing the lake view trails then you'd never see the lake on the ride. I love they they take you over the peak and then drop you into Tahoe basin.

This is probably dumb, but DH and I have always been confused about which part is Tahoe in Soarin'. We just visited Tahoe for the first time a couple of weeks ago, so please forgive the ignorance. Is it the scene with the skiers and you fly over the top of the mountain, after which you see nore mountains and a cloud layer? If so, I wish they would have gotten it on a clear day so you could see the lake.

The scene with the skiers is Tahoe and I believe it's Heavenly.

When Soarin first opened, some of the Opening Crew said the Tahoe flyover was specifically over private acreage.

Some of the Soarin' locations did involve 'special permission' to fly all those repeat fly-overs to get those shots... like over the USS Stenis in San Diego, the PGA golf course, Yosemite Falls and the Tahoe and Disneyland fly-overs.

Take a look at:

http://www.skiheavenly.com/

When in the Tahoe area we bought a "local" DVD of the Lake and its area. A lot of it was filmed by paragliders. Shots over the ski resorts are all taken so that the Lake is in front of you so I imagine Disney would have gone for the same effect. Taking you up and over was deliberate to fit motion on the ride. I should imagine all filming was private as they would have several "takes" until the director(s) were satisfied. Without doubt, it has to be the Heavenly resort.

Wow. You're asking for information, people are nicely taking their time to help you answer your question, and you twist off at them for posting info that you don't think is relevant. I'm sorry I don't have the answer, as I'd be very pleased to withhold it from you.

Thanks, Geoffa and everyone else!

Sorry, cdcooper. That was rude of me. I just didn't know why anyone would bother to post just for the purpose of informing us that they don't know. I was a little grouchy with insomnia, and this morning it actually seems pleasant to me for people to join in just to say hello. Please forgive me.

Danyoung, it was a person, not "people" and it was him or her--not "them." (Though I'm sorry you were offended too.) Still, remember that the rest of us can always cut Alaska in half and make Texas the THIRD largest state in the U.S.! :p
Just kidding!

Shots at Texas I can handle - you'd have to be a Texan to really know just how danged superior we really are.

And everyone has their moments (me more than most). Ain't no thing.

I have always assumed it was Squaw Valley or maybe Sugar Bowl. I have
always figured is was the back side of Granit Chief (a peak at Squaw),
but again I don't really know. The lake side of Heavenly is a city with
high rise casinos. The north shore (where Squaw and Sugar Bowl are) has
much more of a wilderness view, which is what you see on the ride.

In some ways Sugar Bowl would make sense since it was founded in 1938 by
a group of investors led by Walt Disney. Walt used to not only ski
there, but supposedly would bar tend incognito. It was the first ski
resort in California with a chair lift and the first in the country with
a gondola. One of its two main peaks is Mount Disney. But, it is also
a bit farther from the lake -- pretty far to drive, but not that far as
the crow flies, so while I don't really think so, it could be Sugar
Bowl.
