If so, whaddya see?

We were on Pinnochio on Saturday (6/2 @ 9:00pm-ish), when everything froze, and we were caught in the middle of a doorway.

The audio tracks and the AA movements continued moving-- just the cars stopped.

About 20 seconds went by until an overhead voice boomed, "Pinnochio has experienced a technical malfunction. We apologize for this, but please stay seated until a cast member can escort you from the ride."

Then the overhead flourescent lights came up, and we remained in our car for about 10 minutes until a cast member -- leading a troupe of about 10 other riders -- came 'round the bend to retrieve us.

During this wait, the AA's stopped moving. We were stuck in the giant cage/doorway-- so we could see Pinnochio in HIS cage... Stromboli holding a giant padlock... and Jiminy floating under his umbrella.

Getting out of the car was tough-- it's a tight squeeze thru the doors at that point. Even tougher for some large guests to squeeze by.

We got stopped fairly early in the attraction's run, so we didn't get an up-close look at many "scenes," but the others got to see a LOT of the ride as they were led by the CM alongside the track (he was a very courteous fellow that was VERY concerned about someone tripping on the tracks-- but still allowed us to take a long look at the AA's up close.

One thing: my "take-away" from this experience confirmed some thoughts I've always had:

The AA figures look GREAT under full light-- but, WOW!!! The walls are just painted -- and battered -- drywall.

Sure, you need talented artists to do the scenic murals, but I really can't fathom why some of FL's dark rides don't get updates more often.

It seems like you keep the tracks positioned in the same layout, but simply change & tweak "Storylines" pretty easily-- even using the same AA's with the same movements (or slightly altered).

Bottom line: it can't cost THAT much to re-do the backgrounds. Even simple structures (haunted forests... small thatched houses, etc) can't be THAT expensive to re-design.

I love Peter Pan... but Snow White's ride has a cruddy - in my opinion -- storyline. Time for a re-do.

Other opinions, please!

We didnt get escorted out, but the lights came on during Space Mountain before they did the major refurbishments while the ride was still moving. All I have to say is, its amazing how close the tracks are and how much track is in such a small area. I dont think I'll ever put my hands up on this ride again.:)

We got stuck on Splash Mountain, at the top of the hill where Brier Bear's behind is sticking out (my favorite hill...BTW). We sat there for a good 30 minutes with that stinking rabbit laughing, and laughing, and laughing, and...well you get the picture. I love Splash Mountain, but that laughing drives me nuts. Finally a Cast member came and got us 1st. We picked up everyone else backwards on our way out. It was kinda fun actually...other than the laughing!

Roger Rabbit's Cartoon spin stopped once while we were on it and we had to be let out of ride on foot. The main concern was the electric current flowing underneath, so they had to make sure there were ramps at appropriate places.

It isn't my favorite ride, so it wasn't that exciting to see behind the scenes. I would much rather get stuck on Pirates, Indiana Jones or the Haunted Mansion. In fact, I would volunteer my time at DL, if I could get a behind the scenes tour.

I recently got stopped on the first lift of Big Thunder and had to be escorted out. My seat was particularly high from the platform on the side, so the jump down was kinda freaky. Also, it stopped right under the waterfall so we were getting really wet until they turned it off. We only got to see the inside of that first tunnel with all the bats, but it was kind of cool. Kind of took away some of the fun though seeing the bats on strings and the little machines that make those red bat eyes.

I too got stuck in Space Mountain and we actually did get escorted out. We go stuck on the 3rd lift (the one after the tunnel, after the left hand turn). It basically is an indoor roller coaster. The tracks are white with netting on the sides. There are a series of catwalks that take you from the top to the bottom. If I can recall correctly, there is a door to your left after you exit the rockets at the end of the ride and that's where we got out.

Same with us. It was awesome with the lights up!!!

We were on Peter Pan when it broke down, but they couldn't really take us off, so we just had to wait until they could get us back to the front.

I've been walked off Toad (or did we just stop for a long time, and then it restarted again? I can't remember now.), and I'm thankful we were at the train. Some people in front of us were stuck in hell the whole time, so they were complaining about how hot it was.

I've also been walked off Indy, but it wasn't a particularly cool part of Indy.

Oh, and I've been walked off Splash. It was before any of the drops, and we were all completely soaked, so the CM looked at us kinda funny...

Never been escorted off a ride, but we've stalled in the middle of Buzz many times. That's a particularly good one to get stuck on, because even though the cars aren't moving, the targets still work and you can really rack up the points!

Last year when we went in Thanksgiving weekend POTC broke down lucky us we were right next to the stairs that lead us to the back of somewhere and out by Indy.

When we were there in December, we got escorted off two rides - splash mountain and pirates of the caribbean. On splash, we had just gone around the bend from the loading dock and the ride stopped. We sat for a few minutes and they gave an announcement about the ride being broken down and to stay seated. After about 10 minutes, they sent out the cast members to help us evacuate. They went to a log about two ahead of us and which was on an incline and hooked up a chain to the car to secure it. Then they evacuated them and went to the other two cars. There was a door right next to where we were and it got us back to the loading dock area, where we stepped across a log to get out.

The other ride was Pirates and we were in the room where it looks like it is on fire and the beams are falling. They made an announcement to stay seated (several different times) after about 15-20 minutes they said they would be evacuating the ride. The whole time we were there, there was a cast member down talking to us. He was cool, he told us about hidden mickeys in the ride and how they used to use real bones in the attraction. When they evacuated us, we went through this door behind the beams. We had to go upstairs and downstairs and through an area that was a cast member eating area. We came out of a door in the french quarter. It was actually kind of cool to see the back areas of the rides. I actually thought this part of it was kind of cool - just kind of a drag that we couldn't ride the rides then. This was the first time this ever happened to us.

Kind of took away some of the fun though seeing the bats on strings and the little machines that make those red bat eyes.

I got stopped on that same hill on Big Thunder only I was farther toward the back of the train. Here is what I saw 1) It is pretty far down from the train to the track.. quite the little jump! 2) there was a disgusting moldy turkey leg, a **dirty diaper*** and other assorted nasty trash on the track which I found shocking!

I have also been stopped in Space MT, Splash MT and Pinnochio.

At Space MT, it was just after the "dip" and before the re-entry tunnel. The lights flipped on and some CMs came and manually pushed our rocket into the re-entry tunnel where we got out of it and walked around the side, through a little control room which housed some computers (they had pictures of the comets that are projected on the ceiling, on some computer screens and lots of exciting looking switches and buttons), then we exited through the "chicken" exit.

At Splash, it was just before we went down the first little drop that takes you into the first show room. Our log just sat there for the longest time, and soon there was a log jam behind us. a CM came and helped us out of the log and led us through the show room. Here is the weird part... the music was off and the animatronics were ON! it was SO freaky! We walked through quickly, but it was weird while we were in there, then we walked down some stairs within the wire infrastructure of the mountain, inside of the fake rock. It was kind of dirty and gross back there and not at all "Disney" like. Believe me, Splash is much better seen seated within a log with the music ON!

At Pinnochio, what happened was somewhat unfortunate and could have been prevented. I actually tried to say something at the boarding area, but I was a few guests back and apparently the CM could not hear me. A handicapped man and his caretaker were trying to get into the vehicle. For whatever reason, the CM running the ride did not want them both to sit in the front seat together, and the man definitely wanted to sit in the front. I don't think they spoke English well (or at all?), so there was some difficulty understanding and the caretaker thought she could not ride with him, they were being rushed, so he went on the ride alone. Part way through the ride, he started freaking out (I can understand why--his caretaker should have been able to be with him, Pinnochio has it's more "dark" moments as well as being literally a dark ride, and I could tell that being away from his care taker in general made him anxious). So, he escaped from his vehicle, setting off the ride sensors, bringing the ride to a halt. He ran to the end of the ride reuniting himself with his caretaker. A CM came around and released us from our vehicles and walked us out along the normal track. All animatronics were off. I looked around a little as I walked through. I thought the ride looked pretty much the same when riding through as walking through. The blue fairy at the end was still on as well as her music, so it was nice to linger over her for a moment. At the end, the escapee man was hugging his caretaker just inside of the exit crying in relief and the CM was shouting at her "MA'M MA'M"! pointing at the exit trying to get her to leave. Ugh. I really hope their day improved.

Yes! Funny you should ask. Last December, on the Haunted Mansion. It went down just like you said, with the cars stopped but the animatronics & music still going.
I asked my husband: "Do you think this ride has house lights?"
"Of course - for maintennance and for cleaning," he replied.
"Do you think there's a point where they turn them on and escort us out?" I asked, and a few minutes later that's exactly what happened. We were still in the beginning, the "hall" of the house, so we didn't see too much behind the scenes, which is both good and bad.

OMG! I love these stories!!

I've been on Pirates twice when it stopped. The first time it was just under the secruity room and they ended up turning the lights on in the area and sent us through. The ceiling is soo low, I'm never putting my hands up again! We then overheard a cast member saying "we have a jumper!" so someone had jumped out of the ride during the drop...big no no!

The second time it was right before the drop. There was a back up of boats and we were all stuck before the drop. A cast member came over the intercom and said "We need you all to do the pirate boat shuffle and rock your selves back and forth to get the boats moving." I could not stop laughing ang giggling at this. I thought it was insanely funny that to get us down the drop that we needed to do what they called the pirat eboat shuffle. ROTFL

We walked out of Alice many years ago. I don't remember much except that it was creepy walking past the cards and queen.

We got stuck on Buzz a few weeks ago and eventually had to walk out. That was VERY kewl. The scoreboard on the cars suddenly went dark and it got very quiet in the ride. (We had already been stopped.) They got my daughter and I out first, so we had to wait at each car as they let the next group out since we had to all walk out together. That was great, because it gave us time to check everything out. I took pictures of my daughter standing right up in front of stuff that you normally can't access -- characters and stuff -- and they were fine with it. (All stuff that was right on our exit path -- nothing crazy.) The bummer was that my daughter had her highest score ever at that point, and it was lost.

Even more recently, IASW lost power and we had to climb out of our boats in the waterway. That was really fun! They just helped us out one row at a time.

Not a ride, but the first time we saw "Aladdin," they had technical difficulties. Something happened with one of the Genie effects. It got really quiet on stage, then everybody ran off, and an announcer told us the show had to be cancelled. Never did know what happened.

I actually love when this happens. It's a whole different ride experience! I would really like to be on Space when it breaks down, or even Matterhorn.

This happened with us as well. We got stuck inside the ride, and the AA kept going! We were allowed to walk on the set, through a door, and out to the backstage area and were given Fastpasses to ride later in the evening. There was a family behind us in line with a 5 year old and a 3 year old. We were happy to hear that they were stuck at the top outside before the first drop, so nothing was mentally damaging for their girls. I don't know what I'd do if I was that young and saw those dolls going off with no music and all of the lights on! How creepy!

I've been stuck twice, once on Splash Mtn - when you are going up the big hill (before the drop) - I was on the 3rd log that got stuck and everybody played Simon says until the ride got up.. it was a 45min Splash Mtn ride!!

The other time was on Indy - we got stuck in the dark part with the spiders. When the lights came on it was cool to see the projector room and the coulpe of spiders stuck to the wall.. but then the lights went out and we were sitting in complete darkness - which was fine for me, but not for the little kid sitting next to me who was afraid of the dark. Someone came around and said to remain sitting (you are so far off the ground in those cars) and the ride should be up shortly. When it did go up everything was out of sync so that when we went to the rolling ball it was rolling back up. Lucky that we got to go straight through again (except for the kid, he got off).

Well, escorted once, pushed once.

Indiana Jones, at the boulder. They brought a little ladder for us to climb down and then we got to walk under the boulder when all the lights were on.

Space Mountain - at the top of the mountain, it stopped and lights went on. My friend who doesn't like roller coasters much, but USED to like SM, was sitting on the side where she could see to the bottom. Finally a couple of cast members came and pushed our car until it began to spiral down slowly. We got to ride again, right away (except, of course my friend who wants nothing to do with it). And the music was out of sync.

My first ride breakdown experience was on Matterhorn almost 30 years ago and my brother and I still remember it vividly. We both laugh about it....now. My brother who was 7 or 8 at the time, had never been on Matterhorn and was deathly afraid of going on it, out of fear of it breaking down. I thought it was a weird reason, but whatever. I finally talked my brother into riding with me. The grown-ups waited off the ride while four of us kids rode.

Well, the ride did break down while we were on it. My brother began to cry and totally freaked out. Before I realized what he was doing, he had un-buckled his seatbelt, jumped out of the bobsled and went running down the track! Everyone yelled at him to get back in the ride and luckily, he quickly returned. We didn't tell our parents what he did because we knew that all of us kids would be in trouble and we'd be leaving the park immediately for home. Not a fun experience. I think I got my first gray hair at age 11. :(

Thankfully, my other two break down experiences were much calmer. Those just happened within the past year. First on Thunder Mtn., in the same place as Tisha and rargirl in the previous posts. It definitely was a hefty jump from the train down to the track. DD & I were alone on that visit to DL, so I was a little nervous. I took lots of pictures on our trek out so we could show DH & DS when we got home. DS was bummed that he didn't come along that day. We were given a FastPass to use anywhere in the park.

The most recent was on Indy. We broke down where the spears are shooting over your head. The lights came on and we could see the air tubes poking out of the walls. We waited in the car for about 30 min. before the ride started up again. When we got back to the loading area, the CMs let our jeep go straight through for another ride.

My experience was actually at WDW. We were on the Peoplemover, or TTA as I guess it's called now. (It will always be the Peoplemover to us!) If you've never been on that ride at WDW or when it was at DL, it zips around above Tomorrowland and goes through a number of the attractions. We were just about to enter Space Mountain when we lost power. If you've been on the TTA then you know how the "train" of cars separates into segments and at times reconnects. So our segment is sitting in the dark at the entrance to Space Mountain, with no power. But the segment behind us either still had power or was traveling on momentum so it slammed into us enough to push us farther into the tunnel and upset some of the passengers. (It was probably worse for the people who hit us because we could see them coming but they didn't know we were in the tunnel.) This happened about 3 or 4 more times as the rest of the segments caught up to us so eventually we were shoved all the way into Space Mountain. We sat there in the dark for about 10 minutes although it felt much longer. Eventually cast members came out to lead us out along the track. They had stopped Space Mountain and turned on the lights so that we could make our way along the narrow ridge next to the track. Then we had to walk a signifcant way along the elevated track, along the railing. My poor sister is very afraid of heights. Going on the ride is fine but having to walk on the elevated track with only a railing on one side and open track on the other was a real challenge for her. I actually thought she was going to have a bit of a meltdown. One of us stood really close in front of her, the other behind her and she concentrated straight ahead. Eventually we came to another enclosed tunnel but instead of a solid wall for her to inch along, it was a huge glass window looking down into a store! She just froze- didn't want to continue. But the other riders were very helpful- no one got impatient. They just let her inch her way forward. Just past the window was a doorway. We went through the door, down some stairs and through a storage room for the store. It was definitely a memorable experience! I even took some pictures while we were evacuating!

It happend to us on BTMRR. We were only at the first "up" part next to the rainbow falls and of course we got stuck under the watery part. So my sibs and I all got eachother wet. We got to see the "bats" on the way out. They weren't bats at ALL!! I was outraged. ;) They were light balls just hanging from strings.

It kinda ruined the 'magic' for me.

I've only been escorted out once that I can think off, it was off of the Hollywood Limo ride in CA (can't remember what it's official name was) we had just gotten to the first room so I have no idea what the rest of the ride was like, we didn't go back for 2 years and by then I think it was pretty much a dead ride so I never got to actually ride it.

I've been escorted off the People Mover (didn't see anything, just walked along the track to a side door and exited over by the bathrooms by Star Tours). Was also escorted off the Grizzly River Run. They waited until the ride emptied of water, then we had to climb off the raft, onto a ladder and behind the backdrop. The walk out reminded me of the walk out of Big Thunder Mountain, not a whole lot to see.

I did ride both Space Mountain and the Pirates with the lights on, this was back during the 30th Anniversary, they held a party for cast members and my brother worked there at that time. So part of the special was going behind the scenes, backstage, etc. and we got to ride both rides with the lights on. Space Mountain is exactly how others have described. Pirates is really cool with both lights on and off.

I also did a walking tour, with a guide, of the Haunted Mansion which included walking behind the scenes. Very cool!!

We've been escorted off two attractions. The first one was Indiana Jones about 12 years ago. Our car was stopped on a turn kind of up on two wheels, so we needed a ladder to get down and then we were escorted to an exit. The magic does kind of disappear with all the lights on. We didn't get to see anything close up, but we did see something strange. It looked like someone had lost a bag of oranges. There were dozens of them all over the ground. Weird.

The second time was California Screamin' about 5 years ago. The coaster was stalled for a while, then the cars moved slowly to a place at the top where we were assisted out, escorted along a ledge at the top, then down some stairs at the back. That was kind of scary because it was very windy that day and it's quite high at the top.
