ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - An amendment that would clear the way for the development of 15-hundred condos and apartments Anaheim in the shadow of Disneyland has been at least temporarily derailed.

The Anaheim City Council's two-two vote last night sustained an earlier vote by the city's planning commission to reject the proposal.

Big article about this in Tuesday's (2/13) LA Times.

Disney says they don't want condos and apartments because, basically, residents want peace & quiet... and that tourists can be loud at all times of the day & night (when locals are turning-in for the night).

One of the Anaheim board members has suggested that the "front" part of the development be made into a boutique hotel, with the rear portion of the parcel given over to condos and apartments (a smart idea if you ask me).

My feeling is that Disney doesn't want long-term residences facing the street because, 1).They'll someday be faced with the proposition of having to answer to unhappy individuals (who could potentially be VOTERS). And, 2). they don't want the visual clutter that comes with high-occupancy dwellings (ie: laundry hanging on clotheslines, cruddy old bikes on balcony's, etc., etc).

your right, not only that but they wanted to build apartments and low income housing.

not a good combination of housing in a resort area. Low income housing and especially apartments usually become unpleasant eyesore.

Even the mobiles that are there at least do not create the samekind of bad environment that aprtments eventually bring.

the area should be turned into a hotel district with views into the future third Disney gate
