I usually take the 210 to the 2 to the 5 south to DL, but my mom said we should take the 210 to the 57. I have never done this and looking on the map it is obviously not as direct as the 5, but the 5 can be so slow going.

Has anyone tried this route? I may have left out the 605, I'm not sure if you have to take that at some point. It's all new to me!

Thanks:)

Mrs. Bassett here in Pasadena- We often take the 210 to the 57 on down. Generally it is the same amount of time to get to the park than the way you mentioned. The only difference would be if you were driving down a time when the traffic is an issue on the 5. The traffic can get a little bad in the Diamond Bar area, around the 60, but besides that, can be a good way to go.

Most of the time, we find that the 210 to the 605 to the 91 takes us there (sometimes in 40 minutes!) without traffic headaches if it is at a decent time. It is important to note that there are times when we know we can't get down there without a two hour drive, so we just avoid it (evenings between 4-7 mostly).

Hope this helps!

One benefit of the 210 to the 57, that much of the route has Carpool lanes, so if you are travelling with at least 2 folks in the car, you can take advantage of them.

One drawback, the construction where the 57 and the 60 merge, though they do a pretty good job of keeping the lanes open.

I have taken the 57 freeway to/from Disneyland, often, instead of the shorter (!?) route of taking Interstate 5.

I know that Interstate 5 is the main thoroughfare between Orange County and Los Angeles County, and I avoid it except when the hours I am driving are non-rush hours. So, Sunday mornings, I take the direct route of I-5. But otherwise, I will use the 91 to reach the 605, or use the 57 to reach the 60.

The jam up or slow up on the I-5 going home from Disneyland is consistently the exit near Knott's Berry Farm (Beach Blvd., or close to it).

The jam up or slow up going TO DL is at Pioneer Blvd., which I think is Norwalk. From that point, I resign myself to surface streets.

That is not to say that the 57 freeway does not jam. Indeed, I've gotten off the 57 and taken surface streets to Anaheim. From Diamond Bar, through La Habra, through Fullerton, through Anaheim.

I also know what it is like to drive due east toward DL from Long Beach (710 freeway), for those times I intend to use I-5, see it jammed, and decide to go south first, and then cut east.

Thanks everyone. We are going to try the 57 and see how it goes. Gotta love car pool lanes!

Be sure to take the Ball exit off of the 57 as I have found that it is the most direct rouce with the least amount of congestion...

I usually take the 210 to the 2 to the 5 south to DL, but my mom said we should take the 210 to the 57.

Mom knows her roads. This is exactly the route we would often take from Burbank which is right on the 5! As it was often less time, believe it or not.

We'd usually check the traffic reports on 980AM or 1070AM to see what the 5 sounded like, first.

Nowadays we check one of the web sites that has traffic conditions on it. If the 5 is jammed...the trip East to the 57 can certainly be better sometimes.

Good timing for this thread! I am coming from the north, and I have been wondering about the 210.

I normally leave after morning rush hour, so the 5 isn't terrible.

How is the 210 way in the morning? I know the 210 is easy, but not sure about the 57?

How is the 5 once you get past downtown in the morning (say 8 or 9ish?)

210 isn't too bad in the morning because it is reverse commute for the most part. The 57 is a breeze if you can utilize the HOV lanes (if you are driving alone, it is probably a wash). The only downer is where the 60 & 57 merge briefly. I never take 5 in the morning if I don't have to, it is a nightmare from the 605 to 91 where it opens up a bit...

If there's no wrecks on the 210/57, it's almost always faster than the 5, unless ist's at 2:00 am!

The 57 to 60 thing can get bad at crunch time, but the carpool lanes help a lot.

Exit Ball and make a right (you can stop at McD's/KFC/Subway and grab a quick bite about 2 miles down) and make a left into the Parking structure on Disney Way. Also the El Torito at the corner of Ball and State College is AWESOME!!

That's the way I go if I'm meeting the family at Dis after work (studio is in Shadow Hills, and home is in Corona).

Never done the 210/605/91 thing but that might be better than the 5 as well.

Have Fun!

We successfully took the 57 yesterday and it was smooth sailing. On the way home, we were got on the 5 to the 605 and that went very quick. Thanks everyone for your help. I don't think I'll ever take the 5 again!
