Hi -

I noticed that it appeared there was a new Plastic Guard Rail/Barrier where the people mover tracks go over the entrance to Tomorrowland. Is DL using this as a balcony, or is it a preview of getting the ride back?

Walter :)

I will have to look next time I am there. Does it look perminant? maybe it's a safety barrier for working on the track (which I hope they are!)

Hopes are raised that they are putting in something new or bringing back the People Mover?

I don't know about Pirate Princess, but I'm hoping for the return of the Peoplemover.

A lot of us are. I read (just a rumor now) that Disney might start working on the return of the Peoplemover in 2008. I read that last year (ETA, guess it was in 2005) on SaveDisney.com. I am pretty sure they will not leave those tracks barren forever. What they do with it and when, however, is the question!

I wonder if our faithful Darkbeer could get a picture. ;)

I would absolutely love for the People Mover to come back, either in it's original form or I think they could make an awesome adaptation to be like that little spherical monorail thing on the island in The Incredibles.

Ah...the PeopleMover. I can still remember my teeth clattering as the cars rattled along while the recording ironically announced:

"You're now rrrrriding ssslilently and smmmmoothly on a series of Goodyyyyear rubber t-t-tires..."

I walked through tomorrowland today in the daylight, I noticed nothing new installed on the people mover track. There are hand rails on the track way in the front of tomorrowland, this was part of the Rocket Rods attraction. But if I venture there again to take photos of the Christmas Parade tomorrow, I will take photos of it. As I recall nothing was going on up there on the people mover track. I did see an engineer walking on the people mover track last week by the monorail station.

Photos from today, the railing is in fact from the Rocket Rods, for legal reasons, the railing was added to the track. There is a tarp on the track in front of the monorail station, where I saw the engineer walking last week.

I remember going on the people mover when I was a very little girl. The coolest part was the part like the movie Tron.

The people mover operated from 1967 to 1995, they were a part of the 1963 World's Fair and developed by Walt Disney's company (WED) as a prototype of mass transportation, it was also called the WED Way People Mover. The width dimensions of the cars were the same as a early 60's Cadillac, in a DVD I saw about the people mover, an old engineer for WED said it is a Cadillac body going sideways down the track. WED also developed the: Carousel of Progress, The Dinosaur diorama, The Abraham Lincoln Show and It's A Small World for this World's Fair. A few airports do operate people mover systems based on the old Disneyland system.
For some photos and lots of audio of the people mover:

I like the 1976 recording which includes the new Space Mountain, I forgot that the peoplemover went inside of Space Mountain.

To my knowledge...the last airport WEDWay was removed from service several years ago...at Dallas airport. They have a totally different auto-tram system there now.

Anyone missing the People Mover can always visit the Tomorrowland Transit Authority in Orlando!
