How much was the Disneyland Hotel when it opened? (Was it in 1955 or '56?)

I started a WDW thread to find out how much the Polynesian and Contemporary in 1971 and '72, and although they changed for the seasons and holidays, it seems like $17-25 is close.

Then someone suggested that being able to pay what it cost when the early resorts opened would be a great ""Dreams" prize. Of course the difference between the the original rates and today's rates would be taxable, but many Disney fans like me would love that prize. (Maybe Disney could chip in some cash to help with the taxes.)

My husband and I were just talking about those type phone numbers with our dd this weekend. My grandma's was WE2-8892. WE for west, as she lived in west Seattle. She passed away in 1997, and I still called her using/ thinking WE2 rather then "932". Dh remembers his from childhood as well. I work in the "valley" and our phone here starts with 852- which used to be know as VL2. FIL started this company about 40 years ago, we still have the same phone number.

I had no idea that is how the phone numbers worked! I'm from the same area and grew up with an 852- number. Too funny!

LOL, I remember as a kid asking my dad for his mom's phone number and he started off with some name (not keystone, but something -3). I got all panicky thinking he'd gone absolutely crazy, until my mom cleared things up. My grandma lived in the same house for over 60 years, with the same phone number since it was installed! (She had her old phone, too, though it had become a novelty for us grandkids.)

Disneyland's can be seen here on my ancient 3x5 index card for Disneyland:

http://members.aol.com/opus1guy/uploads/dlcalendars71.jpg

One was a local prefix and the other was a Los Angeles prefix. This allowed folks in Los Angeles to call Disneyland without it being a long distance phone call.
