Okay so I saw christautx's photos of the new display that replaced the 50th floral display in front/behind/whatever the train station (you know right after you walk in the gates to DL?) and have a question.

Okay in the past I figured the whole thing was all floral, or plant matter of some sort. So are the pumpkins in this thing real??

There are photos on the 1st page of this photo update of his, one is zoomed in on the orange & white pumpkins, but they look fake to me? http://chrisaustx.smugmug.com/gallery/1947036/1 I'm guessing they are though, plus it seems a bit early for pumpkins to be that plentiful anyway. Plus they'd go bad right? Okay I'm babbling... :geek:

I think they are real, they are actually small gourds, when I was a kid we would have these around for Halloween at school. These last for months and don't degrade for several months, so I think these are real biological gourds.

Thank you very much for the photos! I wish I could be there, it looks great, lots of things to take pics of! I also can't believe how short the wait times are, was that in the evening?

Hmm so then they're smaller pumpkins then? Interesting. That's just a lot of pumpkins! Wow. Cool. They just looked pretty big & I figured they'd be hard to find in those quantities.

I just consider this time of year to barely be pumpkin season. I know in the midwest they've just started arriving at the stores.

Thanks again for the cool photos though! I just wish I could be there.

The floral Mickey was not 100% plant matter. Of course, that doesn'tmean that this isn't.

I think it looks nice, it just needs to be much better lit at night... :)

Those pumpkins are so fake. I touched them as they were putting them up.

I looked at the pumpkins tonight, some are in fact gourds and are not even in pumpkin shape, especially the white ones. It would be easy to call a gourd fake, since it looks like someone made them. The only non organic parts of the Mickey are the purple flowers, those are plastic. Some of those gourds will last for years and native Americans would make vases and containers to carry water out of them.

I shot another photo of the pumpkin Mickey in the front of Disneyland, some of the gourds even have bumps on them like larger gourds do.

Well this is a photo I shot today with part of the Mickey display showing, it was a nice day earlier this afternoon.

My mom thought those were garlic until we got close up - yep, they appear to be real miniature pumpkins/gourds! And for you purists - remember that every pumpkin, or gourd, starts out as a flower. So there.
