Does any one know what species of caterpillar Heimlich the Caterpillar is? I know they say he is a smooth caterpillar (http://www.whatsthiscaterpillar.co.uk/america/smooth.htm)(
http://www.whatsthiscaterpillar.co.uk/america/index.htm
) but which species?

On the Heimlich chew chew train ride at Calfironia Adventure (CA), (http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyland/en_US/parks/attractions/detail?name=HeimlichsChewChewTrainAttractionPage&bhcp=1)how many brightly colored nobbies (?) does Heimlich have running down the middle of his back? (You can count them if you sit in the first car on the ride).

It isn't really a dark ride, but a kid's train that goes thru a few decorated items with a soundtrack, using the voice of Hemilich from the movie.

It is OK if there is no wait, but my biggest complaint, you spend more time waiting to unload than the ride itself. (aka too short)

what an odd but interesting question. i'm not sure i'd rely on the ride's vehicle to make the determination though.

as for the ride itself, not a dark ride. it's a like a child's train ride, only it's a very hungry caterpillar who's fascinated with food objects much larger than he and a lot of them give off their smells. i love this ride. fortunately i've never seen a wait for it, but it definitely backs up when it's time to get out (and heimlich just does not shut up) and it is too short.

Actually, there are two questions. The first question (species of caterpillar) you may be able to get from http://www.whatsthiscaterpillar.co.uk/america/smooth.htm I was just curious if anyone knew the answer.

The second question, number of nobbies (I don't know what they are called) on Heimlich back as seen on the train ride itself, you have to get by sitting in the front of the train. Just a trivia question.

My three year old and one year old love this ride as well as the movie Bug's Life.

P.S. You're Avatar gets better and better. Almost like a people magazine cover.

With those color combinations and markings, I think it might be made up.

i dunno... all i know is the finding nemo characters are all specific species, they even released books that explained which species each were.

i wouldn't imagine heimlich was completely made up, but it's a possibility.. however, i tried an image search on google and while i found a couple that are heimlich-esque, it was shocking just how many different colors and patterns caterpillars come in.

http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&q=caterpillar&btnG=Search

up until then, my exposure to caterpillars has only been of the 'garden variety' type growing up in a woodsy area and slimey from sesame street (but now after seeing the saddle back, even slimey could be real)

It's the red feet that disturb me. I have seen plenty that are close, but not with red feet.

Not sure what species he is but I can say that Heimlich's Chew Chew and ToT are my 7 y/o favorite DCA rides.

This is such an adorable ride!! My youngest DD got to ride it for the first time in May and there was absolutely no wait! We did back to back rides-very nice and cute. The smells were great (tho I didn't really care for the misting effect from the watermelon-had no idea it did that and I was looking up...LOL at me!) You can see how many people were on the ride with us:

I just love Bugs Land. I think it is perfect Disney themeing. :D

My kids love this ride. We have to go on it every visit. My oldest is 9 and my youngest is 4. Our favorite thing to do is raise our hands up in the air, lean far to one side, and scream "weeeeeee!" as we turn the last corner coming into the loading area. Try it, it's almost as fun as the "goat trick". ;)

While it is definetly a very short ride geared to the little tykes, one thing about the ride that I like is that Heimlich is voiced by the late Joe Ranft.

He was such a huge talent. Watch the credits to most of the Pixar films, and you will get an idea of just how huge a loss his passing really was.

I hope they never re-do the soundtrack to that ride.

Well I'm 36, and me and my podcasting buddies make a point to ride this one every time we visit. It's freakin hilarious! Especially after a couple visits to the beer truck, LOL! Oh I'm so hungry...

does anyone have audio from the ride? It may be a boring ride, but I just like to hear Heimlich talk. The accent and the way he says certain phrases is hilarious. :fez:

I can't remember exactly which episode, but the Meandering Mouse podcast (search in iTunes or go to http://www.meanderingmouse.com/) has some great audio of this ride. I believe it's in one of the first 10 eps--check the descriptions. This is what finally got me over into Bug's Land to ride the Chew Chew train. Not a boring ride in my book. Heimlich is a funny character, and his loud belching at the end of the ride makes me giggle like a 12-year-old every time.

BTW, Meandering Mouse is a hilarious and heartfelt podcast from a guy who's got a sarcastic sense of humor but really really loves the Disney parks. He wanders around DLR and WDW and makes funny commentary. It's more PG than G-rated (which makes me like it more), and definitely worth checking out.

Yeah, I agree with JookyG, this ride is a hoot after a couple of Red Trolleys!

Heimlich is a dark ride, if you actually ride it after dark.
Good luck!!

Thanks JookyG...riding around in Heimlich with ya after a trip to the beer cart and decorating every one of our buddies in tow with glowsticks was AWESOME stuff!! Laff! Good times at The Disneyland Resort for sure!
