I am going to miss my nephews birthday while I take my vacation to Disneyland. He is three years old and i thought it might be cute if I made a sign that said "Happy Birthday Aidan" and could get a character to hold it and then I take a picture of them holding it, he would totally love something like that, will the characters do this sort of thing??

I know many people have done the same kind of thing. I still have a picture of Eeyore with a "Hi Jewels" sign another padder got for me. So I would go ahead and do it. I am sure he will love it.

If you ask them politely, I don't see why not. I have seen them holding other things in pictures, such as stuffed animals and autograph books. I don't see how a sign is much different.

i had no problem getting ariel in WDW to do it for me. she even offered to autograph it

as long as it's not objectionable, it shouldn't be an issue.

that said, i did have goofy refuse to hold a miniature stuffed yeti when he was in NYC to promote Expedition Everest. Mickey was semi-reluctant but eventually agreed to it.

i also had donald (in DAK) initially refuse to hold my stuffed stitch (he insisted stitch be placed on the ground), but he caved.

Thanks for the replies! I think i will go ahead and make a sign for him then. I thought the characters probably would do something like this but wanted to make sure :)

It's always worth an ask!

When I did it in WDW in May, I asked the 'handler' if it would be an issue, and then explained to the character why I was doing it as well. No issues.

Make sure you make the letters big enough that they'll be readable in a picture! I printed mine out at home and actually highlighted around the letters with a black sharpie to make sure they'd stand out well.

Another suggestion, if you want. Instead of having a sign that they hold, get him an autograph book from the gift shop, they have one that has pockets for photos, have the character sign the book and take their picture, then slide their photos in the pockets next to the signature.

I sort of did something like this for a friend that was in the hospital, I didn't take pictures, but was able to get most of the characters to sign get well and their name.

One of our MPers had Eeyore hold up a sign of one of another MPers' names and then used it as her avatar. It was really cute.

What an awesome idea! I wouldn't of thought of it, but I'm definitely going to use it. Our family is going in October with my husband's family, but one of my sister in laws is in the Army and will be in Iraq. She's missing the family vacation by three weeks, deployment never comes at a good time. That's okay, we're proud of her and now we can send her a picture of all of us with Mickey and a sign saying how much we love and miss her!
Thanks so much for the idea!

hey that's a great idea to make it big enough for the characters to sign too! then the person it's for would not only have the pictures with the sign, but could have the sign with all the character autographs!

MammaSilva, That is the cutest book ever!! I can not even imagine all the time it took you to put it together. What a cute, sweet idea.

I can not for one moment take a bit of credit for that adorable book....our very own Drince88 made that for Missy as a get well gift. She treasures it along with all the other wonderful gifts she recieved but since the topic of having a character hold a sign was being discussed I just couldn't resist sharing the love and hard work that resulted in that adorable albumn!
