Didn't know it, but today, 9/20 is Bat's Day at the Park, otherwise known as Goth Day. By a fluke i was there, with my daughter, while the rest of the family was at the Pokemon world championships across Katella at the Hilton. Funny to see how many average folk are confused or offended by goths. I, myself am a former goth, (are we really ever former anything?) and I love this day, and try to participate any way I can. This year I completely forgot.

I came across people asking CM's why there are a bunch of people wearing black today, and when the CM told them, The guy said, "I asked one of them why, and he replied 'I don't know'." Classic goth response.

Does anyone here have any strong feelings about Bat's Day, or goth people in general? Do they creep you out, or offend you? Me, I kinda miss it, but the image would never truly fly at work. I was kinda goth today, with black matrix style cargo pants black leather boots and a red button up shirt with black dragons on it, but not the way i used to look.

Let it fly!

I was also there today. They don't offend, some I thought went really far. But other then that, there was no problem. I was just wondering how hot they were in there black pants, black shirts, black shoes, and black hair. Why don't they have bats day near halloween when it is alittle cooler out.

Bat day? Ok, some looked so evil! And the heavier some of those ladies were, the less they wore! Could have done without that... Ewww cellulite! They didn't seem to bother anyone tho, except for some bad language they seemed to keep to themselves. It made for some interesting scenery if anything!

We were there yesterday... And I thought it was fabulous... I thought the clothes were amazing. I loved it!

Admittedly, I did a bit of people watching... It's not everyday I see people dressed like that. Coincidentally I had black toenails yesterday... But that is because vogue magazine says it's very chic right now.

Offended... No. How could I be? I was offended by the 3 sets of families with small children who cut in the lines in Fantasyland. But that is another thread for another time.

I am very intrigued by BAT DAY? What is it? I would love to know more!

I know nothing about the Goth movement... But it's got great clothes! It certainly made Disneyland for this DLR veteran more interesting.

Goth folks dont offend, as long as they are like everyone else (respectful of lines, attitude, and language).

And of course, as long as they dont smell bad, that's an added plus! (kidding, of course) (well, I guess that would be another topic--bad body odor in general at DL.......)

wow..thanks for the explanation...i was there yesterday and was wondering the same thing myself....
...it was kinda weird becuase i saw a whole boat in the pirates of the caribiean full with only goths....
...they did however keep to themselves....but you must admit...they do clash very very much with disneyland...seemed out of place...oh well:)

I don't understand why Bat's Day isn't planned around a time when the NBC Overlay is. Aren't most goth's totally into Tim Burton movies and especially NBC?

Loved the pics Darkbeer took from yesterday.

^Many of the Goth folks work at Knott's for Halloween Haunt, so October is not a good option.....

This looks like a blast! Maybe I'll step out of my Comfort Zone and dress up one year. Looks like anything goes, and I do have a black umbrella. :p

My wife, son and l were also there yesterday. My son asked questions about the Goth people; l had no answers really. He thought they looked funny but admired them for being dressed all in black on a hot day.
They just went about the business of enjoying the park like any other guests that l saw, so they can dress any way they wish [ in my humble, unsolicited opinion. :) ]

We went Sunday night and I totally forgot it was Bats Day! So we got off HM at around 8:00PM and when we walked back around the place was packed! I guess a bunch of them met up at HM at that time? It was cool because both my boys were so into their clothes. We had a good time but because of the crowds we left early.

I was there at night, not knowing it was Bats Day. It kind of reminded me of when I was in high school. My girlfriend and I went on HM when there was a large concentration of goths outside the gates. Each person who got in line behind me was asking the poor CM what a goth was and why they are how they are. I spent some time explaining it to the group behind us, but I did hear some people say some mean things about the goths. My only thought is how the goths are usually more respectful in a group than most of the trendy teenagers I see come into the park. They don't act like little attention mongers by screaming every three seconds on the Haunted Mansion.

Goth girls are like redheaded girls. They are either butt ugly or drop dead beautiful, and not much in the middle.

That is not a very nice thing to say. I wonder if I would be the "Butt ugly" or the "drop dead beautiful". because I do think I am somewhere in the middle.

Most of my family went thanks to a member on this site. It was great we do not see much of eachother since growing up. We all dressed up but that was kinda normal clothes for my family. And it is not so hot when you have an umbrella/parasol, portable shade.

I can vouch for the fact that Mulangirl looked absolutely adorable. She and her husband are a very cute couple.

This was our third Bats Day and it was the best one yet. We met many new friends and reconnected with many folk we'd met before. So many people asked to take Zero's photo that I felt like one of those CMs that escort the princesses around at times. We'll post photos later.

A few Bat Day facts. It's held at the end of August because in the past that has been the end of block out dates for Ap holders.Lots of goths hold APs. It is also before school starts. many goths are students or parents of students.

There were about a thousand goths at the 1:00 Castle photo on sunday and about 1350 at the HM photo shoot in the evening.

As for wearing black in August. Most goths wear black everyday.....I know I do.....so it's no different for them than any other summer day, except they might wear something a little more snazzy. If you were there you would have noticed that many of us carry parasols. Zero and I always carry them in DL. Ours even have UV protection. We were complimented on ours several times and told how smart we were to have them.;)

AS for goths not fitting in in Disneyland....well..there are a heck of a lot more skeletons, skulls, ghosts, and pirates in DL than there are princesses. 'nuff said.:D

I wasn a little unsure of Goths before I came to MP. Then I met one of the most awesome Goths in the world, and her Goth daughter. That would be our lovely disneyperson and Zero's Bark.

I learned a LOT from them and know that they are creative people, a lot of them have a very dry sense of humor. As disneyperson told me, the things that a lot of us find unattrative, they find the beauty in it. (I know I said that wrong, dp is much more eloquent than I! ;) )

They were both there on Sunday. I hope someone got to see them. I wish I was there! :crying:

Would I go for Batsday? You bet. In a heartbeat. Would I dress like them? Probably not, for two reasons. I don't want to wear all black to DL in the summer, talk about HOT!! And I have never had the courage to dress out of the norm of everyone else. (dp knows this about me, and loves me anyhow. Don't ya, big sis? ;) ) I have to say I admire that about them, they have the courage to step outside the box.

Don't confuse Goths with Emos. Emos are the ones that are usually depressed. And dp will have to fill in the blanks there for me, I am sure I didn't say that right.

She's not kidding. She showed me one jacket she bought, and I was practically drooling over it. I want one! :D

The picture with Mary and Bert is the best. I didn't see you by the Mansion but we stood in line next to Voltaire, I wished I could have found you guys before hand, then you would have been standing next to him (not that I would have known we were going to be standing next to him). but I know he got in line again so maybe you did?
