I heard that there is a room in Sleeping Beauty's Castle where Walt stayed. It is partitioned off with plexiglass but intouched otherwise. Is this true? If so, how do you get to go up there?

There was no room in the castle. You must be thinking of Cinderella Castle at WDW's Magic Kingdom. There walt had plans for an appartment like he had above the firehouse on Main Street at DL. But he died before the MK opened so it was never used by Walt. And now they are making a nice room up there for the Year of a Million Dreams.

The studio apartment above the fire station is in tact. I don't remember pexiglass although there's a little divider to keep people from going in the bathroom.

The gallery above POTC was going to be a more elaborate apartment for Walt but he died before it was completed.

Can you get in to see Walt's apartment on top of the Fire station?Only if you have an inside connection with Disneyland, and even then only very rarely.

Disney recently did a charity auction that included a tour of the apartment.

you can take a free tour of the gallery however where they show you around and explain what each room was going to be. the grandchildren's room is pretty neat.

Is this a tour you have to pay for?

As others have pointed out...it's pretty darn rare they let anyone up there.

But if you've got Quicktime on your computer...here's a Virtual 360 view of it:

And the gallery tour, including the chance to enter through what was the original front door of the apartment, is part of the Walt's Footsteps tour. One year, the Walt's Footsteps tour group I was on even got to poke our noses into the workroom where they do the "art prints on demand," and have that room's original intended function explained.

I'm still trying to figure out how "opus1guy" managed to get into the Fire Station apartment. Please elucidate; I'm sure I'm not the only one dying to know.

I thought the apartment above the firestation was part of the "walk in walt's footstep tour".

We were with you on that tour ;) July 4th, 2003. Remember a tour with a little black dog?

And if I remember correctly, Opus1guy got in either in on the auction for it at Magical Memories or another auction shortly there after. I remember him telling us about it.

some people have reported that the walk in walt's footsteps USED to include the apartment - the tour has been revamped fairly recently TWICE, but i don't think that claim has ever been substantiated. in any case, the current tour does not.

I was most certainly on the July 4th 2003 tour, but I don't remember anything about a "little black dog."

And I can substantiate that, unless it was tried for some brief period of less than a year, the Walt's Footsteps tour NEVER included the Firehouse apartment. In its original form, it included a trip around the Park aboard the Lilly Belle (which, for anybody who understands the concept of a railroad's presidential business car, [this ain't no division superintendant's office car!] would have been worth the price of the tour in itself), but no visit to the Firehouse apartment.

I remember going in there on a Walt's tour as well. It was fun to see the "clutter".

I can think of a few people on these boards who have been in the apartment. I'm one of them. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me, so I don't have any pictures. It was amazingly cool to see Town Square looking out from the window with the lamp. You can totally see how that was such a great view for Walt.

I'd still love to see it for myself, but this'll do til then (which probably means forever).
Thanks Opus1guy.

Yeah the current tour (I went on it last November) doesn't let you into the apartment which is a bummer. Our guide told a great story about escorting Julie Andrews through the apartment when she came for the 50th Anniversary ceremony. She said very few people, including Cast Members get to go in the apartment.

You do however get to go to Walt's future apartment (you can go there without the tour though) and eat on the patio. They provide you with lunch. Most people got Walt's favorite...chili and cornbread. It was cool but I would have much preferred lunch at Club 33 instead.

Yea, the apartment was never a part of the tour. When the "Walk in Walt's Footsteps" tour was first created, Disney advertised in their magazine that the tour did include a trip to Walt's apartment. The very next issue, they had to retract that statement and revise it. The tour would not include a visit to the apt., but instead, a visit to Club 33.

Believe me, alot of people got really excited, and then subsequetly dissapointed, by that. Still, being inside Club 33 is pretty cool too!

Disney recently did a charity auction that included a tour of the apartment.

They let the college/careerstart (2006) participants go see it. It smelled like stale smoke and they could only allow a limited number of people go in while the rest had to wait. The reason they could only allow a limited number of people was because the building does not meet current building codes and thus they were afraid that too many people inside would cause structural damage. It was nice to see none the less.

Great. A guy who doesn't even like working at DL gets to go see it, but we don't!

There is a room in Sleeping Beauty Castle. In fact it was a walk through where you went up stairs on one side, walked in a hall above the archway of the castle, and down stairs on the other side. The hall has diaramas of Sleeping Beauty. It was closed some time in the 90s I believe because of handicap accessability issues. Plus it was a make out spot, so they weren't too sad to see it close.
