Going through the Opus Archives and scanning some old personal Kodak color snapshots (developed at Thrifty Drug for all you old-time SoCal'ers out there ;))...I thought it might be fun to post some old personal photos of things or views of Disneyland that you can't see anymore.

So if you'd got any you'd like to share...please post 'em here. :)

Please try to avoid posting stock Disney photos. Let's see some home-grown family or personal snapshots instead...okay?

I'll start off with this one that gives a view of not only a thing and view that's not there anymore...but it's also a shot of a lot of stuff that isn't there yet!

Yeah I'm standing on a rail I more than likely shouldn't have been as a 3/4 year old...my grandfather is holding me, my aunt is at the wheel and my grandma took the pic....so sue me ;)

Great photos!

Funny, but when I was at Disneyland just last week, I stood by Monstro and watched his eye moving and watched him still blowing mist through his spout and I was thinking of how much that hadn't changed in all these years. But there is now a landscaped area between him and the guests and I had forgotten until I saw your photo just how close you could get to him back then. :)

Wow! Your own Michael Jackson moment! ;)

I'll toss in another one. This one has so much stuff that isn't there any longer (Peoplemovers, Skyway, holes in the Matterhorn)...but it's mostly a pretty standard snapshot of the time. I selected this one because it contains something you don't see often in old photos. And that's the revolving Christmas Star that used to adorn the Matterhorn every holiday season for decades.

No idea why they stopped that tradition. One can only speculate.

Anyone else? Remember...you don't have to be in the photo or have taken the photo yourself. It just has to be a personal family snapshot of something that's not there anymore (or changed dramatically) that was taken when you were there.

:)

a very rare photo indeed. the "Christmas Star" was such a wonderful sight at night. i could clearly see it from my bedroom window each night and would drift off to sleep to dream of Disneyland and the joy of Christmas morning.

the tradition ended in the late '70s as a result of the "energy crisis".

I only have a few but here is one taken in the summer of 1974. You can see the Skyway (which I loved!) and the Submarines.

What I notice about that long-ago holiday on Main Street USA is the lack of guests! And yes, the cannon is still there. I visted the park with my brother a few weeks ago and his wife took our picture in front of it.

Wow, I had to do a double take, there is a picture of my mom and I in about 1968 or 69 in the same pose, our mother's had very similiar hair styles. I will have to get the photo from my mom, scan it in and attach.

I don't know. It gives me a Kodak login page, but I don't have an account with them. Is it supposed to do that?

Fun idea for these old photos, Opus. Especially for those of us old enough to remember some of this stuff! ha!

A good one for this thread, and here it is:

http://members.aol.com/opus1guy/uploads/capthooks1.jpg

...taken in 1982 just days before they closed Fantasyland for the 1983 "New Fantasyland" re-do, and destroyed the "Captain Hook's Pirate Ship Restaurant." It's from a Kokachrome 35mm slide that I shot as I was going around "recording" the old Fantasyland one last time. The brilliant colors sure hold up well on those old Kodachromes!

That is a beautiful shot! How I miss Captain Hook's--it's where I had my first tuna sandwich. Ahh, the memories.
