View Full Version : What is your Disneyland Tradition(s)?

Still new here, so sorry if this has already been discussed. What are your Disneyland Traditions? Do you enter a certain way? Do you ride a certain ride first? Do you always eat the same food first? Etc. Etc. Our tradition kind of came about unknowingly. The first few times that we went to Disneyland, it just so happened that we always managed to ride Pirates first. This has become a tradition for us. Also, we always enter Disneyland through the right tunnel.

I'm sure you'll get lots of new replies, but you were correct in speculating that it's been the subject of threads before. Here are just a couple of past ones from last year:

Anybody have a tradition that they do... (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=45915)

We always skip into the esplanade to the gate where we will line up. (Yes, we're goofy)

Always, always ride Peter Pan first.

We always put our arms up on the last hill climb on Pirates. We love fooling first timers into thinking there is a big drop at the end.

Cry as we exit through the tunnel on our way home. :crying:

First thing - always ride Haunted Mansion first, no matter what! Last trip we had a bbq skewer from the Bengal BBQ and I *thought* that would be a new tradition...but we'll have to hurry to do that one last time. ;(

I guess this is "tradition" - we always MEAN to ride the Columbia, but never have!

Oh, and we always get a magnet. Our poor fridge looks ridiculous.

We never vary from the tradition of taking the monorail into tomorrowland....catching the D/L railroad at that station....riding over to New Orleans Square....and walking the back way to POTC....and that is the tradition that we've maintained for 15 years now.

Well we always show up early. When POTC is open that is Dad's favorite ride so we start there on the first day. We always eat at least one meal at the Plaza and that will be the fried chicken meal. We always line up for Peter Pan about one minute before midnight and watch the witch in the window of Snow White. Just feels so sweet to be on a popular ride at closing when most people are leaving. Then we love leaving the park with it nearly empty. It is fantastic at that time of night and the CM are happy because the big crowds are gone and their workday is almost over.

We never stay up late in real life so when we are at Disney we stay up late. We also let the kids eat what they want. If they want ice cream or cotton candy for dinner then that is what they get. We let them sleep in their clothes too so that they are ready to go when we get up early to beat the crowds.

Disneyland is fun because we really don't have rules there.

Well, even before getting to DL, I begin making reservations for June, in January. I get pretty obsessed abouty looking online ALL the time! I know as soon as the xmas holidays are over, it is time to look for Disney bargains!
And then we make our own countdown calendar on a piece of poster paper. The kids do their own and we make it a 3 month calendar, since once you go below 100 it goes pretty fast!
When we DO get to CA, we drive by the resort before going to our room. Makes it that much more real, that we are there!

Me and my family always when we need a place to meet up with each other we always meet at the "partners" statue or as we call it Walt. Its easy to get it and no matter where you are in the park its about an equal distance as far as walking and its really open so its easy to see people.

Sharing a churro with my daughter at the churro cart in front of Sleeping Beauty's castle. Her and I have a passion for those churros that I cannot rationally explain.

I always enter through the left tunnel and leave through the right (looking from the plaza area towards DL) but other than that there are no specific traditions I can think of. Usually Indiana Jones is the first ride we would go on but this last trip that was Space mountain so things are usually changing with me.

The first day we are there, we always take pictures in front of the Mickey flowers at the front of the park. And then we head over to Pirates of the Caribbean. That is sort of "our family's ride." Everyone loves it and we MUST go on it first. After riding Pirates we usually ride Haunted Mansion because it's right there and we all love that one too.
Recently, our tradition has become to stake out a spot for the fireworks in the hub about 3 hours early and sit there playing cards and enjoying the warm ground that is slowly releasing all the heat it has absorbed through the day. The time goes by so fast and is worth the amazing view of the fireworks show.
Hmmm...I'm trying to think what else..
Well, since I learned about the Goat Trick from this amazing website, my cousins and I all request the back of the train on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and do the Goat Trick. Sometimes we actually chant "Goat Trick Goat Trick!" on the way up the hill and people stare at us like we're crazy because they have no idea what we're talking about..
If I think of any more, I'll be sure to post them!

1. Always enter the park through the left-hand tunnel, exit on the right!

2. Always ride the train as the last ride of the park (one full complete circle).

3. Peter Pan is the first ride of the day, any day.

4. Request and wait for front row center of Soaring Over California.

5. As we leave the park, I get a rice krispy Mickey, DH get peanut brittle, DD9 gets popcorn at the Hub and DD7 gets pink cotton candy for the ride home.

6. I always get a marshmallow caramel fudge stick to eat while rest of family goes on Splash Mountain.

7. Make a wish at the wishing well (usually for our next trip to DL!:~D )

I used to play the baseball game at the Penny Arcade -- the one with the big silver balls and the umpire who caled balls and strikes and the outfielders who moved back and forth -- first thing every time I went to Disneyland from 1958 to some time in the 1970s when they took it out.

Now I don't have any rituals.

Now I don't have any rituals.

I don't think I'd call this one a tradition...but I do have a ritual I just thought of that I always do at Disneyland:

I usually always drop by one of the restaurants that has a little basket of those wet naps out and grab four or five of them and stuff them in my pocket. They come in handy at times while in the Park. Especially on really hot days.

I do this everytime we end a trip. My kids and DH think I am nuts. They always say we'll be back in 6 months mom, it's no big deal.

We always enter in the right tunnel, stroll through the shops down main street and then straight to POTC then to HM. I also have to have a Mickey icecream. I also cry when we leave.:crying:

I just remembered a more recent tradition of ours!
Every trip we must EAT AT NAPLES!
Over the course of our 6 day trip in November of 2005, we ate at Naples 5 times. We just can't get enough of their great food!!!!

My sister and I do a junk food binge. We eat whatever we want, whenever we want. So that usually comes out to 5 churros a day, EACH, a caramel apple, dole whip for me, frozen banana for her, cotton candy, lollipop, popcorn, and a bunch of other stuff I can't think of right now.

Of course, after one day of this, we feel sick to our stomachs and start eating normally for the remainder of our stay.

And we always go on HM as much as we can, if the HMH overlay isn't in place.

Of course, this tradition just started. We hadn't gone to Disneyland for years until recently.

That's one of my Las Vegas rituals. They have those at every cashier stand at every casino.

Enter left tunnel, POTC always the first ride. At some point in the day, ride the Disneyland RR. Family photo in front of castle. When leaving, left tunnel.

Well, we've only been to DLR twice but are planning our third trip for next March. Both times we road IASW first. And my oldest dd & I cry when we leave. We really thought our first trip would be like a "one and only big family vacation"..... or we could become addicted, even my dh, and are now trying to figure out how to make it an annual event. :)
