What would be your suggestions for the best snacks to take in a backpack to DL? (Two adults and a 5 yr old)

No food, snacks, drinks allowed in backpacks. If you sneak things in your pants or jacket pockets, the people at the gate won't notice. I see people with food in their back packs being told they can't enter, each time I enter through the screening area.

Are you kidding?

I always take bottled water.

Some other items I'll take: Goldfish Crackers, Goofy's Candy Co Sour Cherry Balls, Granola Bars, Fruit, String Cheese or Babybels if you can keep them cool enough, Horizon Organic Chocolate Milk (no fridge required), Dry Cereal, Dried Fruit/Trail Mix.

Disneyland does not consider water to be food. I have seen them go nuts over a box of crackers before.

I have taken in all kinds of snack foods. So have all my friends. I also see people eating homemade food all the time.

water, some sort of "healthy" snack (i.e. goldfish, crackers, etc.), some sort of "sweet" snack (i.e. fruit snacks), juice. if you and your kid have a certain favorite snack, i'd bring that, too. my mom used to bring us to safeway/vaughn's/your local supermarket and tell us to pick out a snack to bring. :D

We had a small cooler with an ice pack for the milk cups and anything else that needed to be cooled. I also have taken fruit snacks, crackers, cheerios, etc.

Chrisaustx, the CM's that you see going nuts over a box of crackers, did the people have kids? Just wondering because I have never gotten stopped when I showed them my backpack with all the snacks.

Wierd! I go to DL about twice a year and I always have water and snacks in my backpack. No one has ever said anything about it!

I suggest things like bars (Luna, Cliff, Granola, etc...), small bags of nuts, and dried fruit!

What ever you do, dont take bananas! They dont last long being beat around in a hot back pack. Not that I would know about that or anything.

you're definitely allowed to bring in snacks (particularly when traveling with small children), soft drinks (no glass containers) or food in a limited quantity (or if required for dietary reasons).

you just can't bring in what can be conceived as a full on meal. you'll be directed to the picnic area for that.

If you decide not to take the snacks in the park in a backpack, then you could always put them in the lockers in the picnick area, and take a break for a few minutes. Use a cooler to keep it cold. I like to eat luch in the park, and have a home made dinner in the picnik area. This saves the most money, while allowing for at least one meal in the park. You can plan it with a trip on the train and get off at the Main Street station. Then for snaks durring the day choose churros or fresh fruit from the carts.

I too have had no problem bring food in the parks, but that was before the 9-11 crackdown.

Several times, we've packed Peanut Butter Sandwiches for the kids, Turkey Sandwiches for us, Chips and Capri Sun before and didn't have any issues with the CM's. Last time was a few months ago so maybe they've started cracking down?

I would use the gladware or the other brands like it for many of your snacks. The abuse your backpack takes getting on and off the rides really squashes all the snacks. My kids love granola bars, fruit and fruit snacks. I also bring in 1 or 2 water bottles and use those kool-aid or crystal light flavor pouches. Then I can just refill those same two water bottles all day long. Have fun!

For someone who does not live in California or even visits the park once a month, you certainly know alot about Disneyland, haha. I worked at the park as a construction contractor and have been at the park 20 days out of the past 30 days. Certainly I have had my share of Disneyland experiences waiting in line to enter the park during the back pack searches and heard the fights between guests and cast members about can't be brought in the park. A New York City expert on Disneyland, you are killing me, haha.;)

thank you for your keen sense of observation. these are also the policies in place at WDW. perhaps with your amazing grasp of the obvious, you've also noted that you're the only person who has your particular stance on the issue who's posted anything. i'm in agreement with several people.

or perhaps the aluminum foil hat you wear to keep the biometric ticketing system from implanting trackers into your brain is giving you a glaring blind spot. for practically living at a park that you have repeatedly condemned as terrorist target #1, i hand you a lot of credit in a lot of areas. this is not one of them.

i also don't see why the fact that you work as a contractor makes you any more knowledgeable than potentially anyone else. that's almost like suggesting that a janitor at the NSA knows where to find all the weapons of mass destruction. my office consists of only a couple of hundred people, but I would never have the audacity to suggest that i know everything that goes on here, behind closed doors or otherwise. and i work for the company, not as an outsider who's paid to build things, not stand in line and eavesdrop on people.

i don't wish to get into contests with who knows what and why. you disagree with me, fine. there's no need to take it to a personal level, thank you.

I am about to leave for the park right now, the ten min. drive down Ball Road in Anaheim to the parking garage sure is a struggle for me, maybe if I leave now I can be at the park by 15 min. from now. I will tell you how it is today, haha. If you are using personal experience you don't have, then it's personal. Oh I did not pay for my premium annual pass, Walt Disney Imagineering gave it to me last year for working on the Monsters, Inc. ride, so my total cost for today's trip, $2.25 worth of gas! The Walt Disney World Company which runs Disneyland and Disneyworld has no offices in New York City, they are based in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, those nice checks Disney would send me from "Disney World Wide," do not come from New York City. The only operations Disney has in New York City are ABC TV, the Disney Store and the Live Entertainment venues. Unless you work in Glendale or get a pretty Mickey Mouse check from the "Walt Disney World Company," you do not have anything to do with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

okay, you seriously need to take your medication. i never said nor did i imply i work for the disney company. which means you're not only paranoid but completely delusional as well. secondly, there's a lot more of disney based in nyc than you could possibly grasp your straining little paranoid mind around. for starters, Miramax is based in New York. The ABC building also houses Hyperion publishing, but I don't need to go any further than that.

and if personal experience is the only thing that counts, i guess you've been probed by aliens one too many times based on your eccentric rants (to put it mildly). in any case, i'm not on here to amuse you. consider yourself ignorant - er - ignored.

You implied that I was ignorant and you worked for the Walt Disney Company in New York, I have worked on projects in New York City and have been in communication with each of those offices in the past year. My company was contracted to supply wall, desk and display graphics to each unit of the Walt Disney Company. I will be at Disneyland today having a marvelous time today for free, so if you have any further questions, please contact me there, oh I forgot, you are in New York City, haha.

I also have never had a problem taking in snacks. I take water, juice boxes, crackers, fruit snacks, grapes, goldfish, and so on. They've looked in there and have seen them on everytrip and never said a word.

Have fun!

I think it all depends on who you get in line and how aggressive they are, in the past month, there have been lots of fights between cast members and guests about what can be brought in. So just be prepared to be told "you must go to the picnic area." The suggestion about using lockers outside of the park is a great idea. Hey the new Haunted Mansion effects are up and working today, so when that guy is arguing with me from New York City, I will be at Disneyland seeing all the new Haunted Mansion stuff :).

I do have a young child so that may be why but I've never been turned away for snacks. We pack a lunchbox filled with snacks every time we visit the park. Last time we were with another family and they brought in a small cooler type lunchbox filled with lunch for all of them. Anyway, just wanted to say that we've never had a problem. As for what we bring, it's always different...pretzels, grapes, cheese, granola bars, sandwiches, etc.

But the question is, when were you at the park last lillysmom2003? I saw a Hispanic family with a cooler turned away, and escorted by security to the picnic area, the line was held up for 10 min. during that fiasco. But once again, some of the screeners are lazy, and won't even stand up and just waive you through, while others go through everything you have. But the fights I have been seeing at Disneyland in the screening lines are something rather recent.

so i guess work isn't all that important to you...
as a worker, you have a different experience going through security than the parkgoers. you're there for "work" so they understand that you're on the job. and i'm guessing you don't take kids with you to work, so you wouldn't have the problem of bringing snacks and other food with you.
also, just because bradk lives in NYC, doesn't mean he's less knowledgeable than the rest of us. i think he knows a heck of a lot more than most and i don't see you responding to other questions like he has.
and as for lilysmom2003, she clearly said she just wanted to say they've never had a problem. you've obviously seen the worst and have not gone through security like the rest of us. we're speaking from experience here.

obviously he has great work ethics since he claimed he was going to work 40 minutes before his last insane post (i'm guessing since he's on my ignore list and i can't read it.

the new HM effects were in effect at least yesterday, if not before, since it was already posted on here, so if that's supposed to be some hint at 'inside' information.. well.. this guy is even more insane than he lets on to be.

My friend had one of those soft coolers (the Eddie Bauer one from Target) in December. It was not a problem...
