This is from page 3 of the update on miceage. http://www.miceage.com/allutz/al041806a.htm

The plans for Disneyland's own Halloween celebration aren't nearly as comprehensive as what they do in Paris or Tokyo, with parades and custom decorations all over the parks, and it's ironic that the country that invented the modern version of the holiday doesn't seem to celebrate it as much as the overseas parks. But Disneyland does plan to deck out Main Street and Frontierland in modest Halloween décor, and Steve Davison and the entertainment group is even pushing for a spooky Halloween fireworks show to be created and performed on October weekends. This will all help mark the official end of the 50th, as all of the current decorations are removed and replaced with Halloween stuff, or replaced by simply nothing at all as Disneyland returns to its normal pre-goldenized state. And it will also mark the return of Halloween to Disneyland, which should be nice to see.
I hope this all works out. I just want Disneyland to have a little bit of halloween decorations at least. And I hope DCA gets even more this year.

Yay... I was getting pretty jealous of Tokyo and Paris having all the Halloween fun!

I've found it odd that DL didn't decorate for the season. It would seem like a natural. Obviously they're not going to go too scary, but I think "cute" Halloween stuff would be great. I understand that they can't do too much due to the Christmas stuff going up only a month later, but hey - how about even a few randomly placed pumpkins and spiderwebs?

I also wonder whether we will see true halloween decorations or merely "autumn harvest" decorations - pumpkins, corn and gords, hay and stalks, etc. as you say above - leaving stuff up for two months (sept and october) with a need to push it all out 11/1 would mean not having too much detail to the decorations..

although now you may not see too many people complaining on the pad about how early the christmas decorations go up :fez:

I would be content if they brought back the pumpkin patch to Town Square.

(Why am I all of a sudden feeling like Linus waiting for The Great Pumpkin?)

And given that Halloween is supposed to be a much bigger thing in the USA I find it odd that Disney in the States pulls back on this. As for the point (raised by another poster) about Christmas decorations needing to go up they manage Halloween and Christmas quite well at Paris and Tokyo so why not at DL and WDW? I don't know about Tokyo but at Paris, Frontierland becomes "Halloweenland" and its huge fun.:)

Well Disney overseas is sort of a hyper-representation of the US and US culture, so it makes sense that their Halloween celebrations would be like that. In the US, I don't know that Halloween decorations would be that big of a draw for Americans. It has become more popular for Americans to decorate their homes for Halloween in recent years though, so maybe people would make a special trip.
