Subsonic of Subsonic Radio fame (www.subsonicradio.com - best Disney internet radio station - check it out!) showed me this site:

http://www.electkimberly.com/

Look at the picture at the top. Isn't that Disneyland!?!?! Look at the garbage can!

Wow, you MAY be right on that one! The other thing that doesn't run true for the Vieux Carre is that there aren't any streets that end in any way other than a corner with an intersection, unless you're taking a courtyard, and that's a little bit odd shaped for a courtyard.

(Restraining myself, barely, from making a comment about her qualifications for the position she is seeking)

My first thought when I opened the page was that it was a joke ad for someone who wanted to be mayor of New Orleans Square. So this woman is actually running for Mayor of New Orleans, LA using a picture of Disneyland?

I have to admit that I'm amused enough by this that I sent an email to the city desk at the Times-Picayune.

Yes, she IS one of the 23 candidates for New Orleans Mayor. She's not one of the top 3, though. Maybe missing the first debate she was invited to because she was IN JAIL for Contempt of Court affected her chances of being in the run off (top two candidates after April 22 election) - but I don't think she had much chance before that.

I was thinking it had to be unwitting. Some graphic designer just grabbed a photo and didn't think about it. But at some point the Blue Bayou sign would have been removed from the photo.

Here's a good comparison photo:

That is hilarious!! My fourth grader just stopped by my computer, saw Kimberly's "New Orleans" photo and said, "Is that Disneyland?" She, too, recognized the trash can. I love it!

Yeah, it was on Jim Hill's site (http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/archive/2006/04/13/1814.aspx) this morning.

I read about this at Jim Hill and the picture was in the middle of the page. I started reading the article and it was talking about her running for the position and her time in jail and then there is the picture. As soon as I saw it I started busting up, realizing that it is a picture of Disneyland.

Well, it has made it to Wonkette and Boing Boing so it definitely will go mainstream.

Did anyone read the posts on Jim Hill's site? One lady said she called her campaign headquarters and spoke directly to her. Apparently she is aware of this, but the webdesigner is no longer available and nobody else has the password to access the website. I find that hard to believe.
Anyway...it's still worth a good laugh, though. Thanks for pointing this out!

I read that. If that's really true, she doesn't really prove to be professional... If she's going to manage the city's contracts like she manages the contracts with her webdesigners...

She is in jail for mismanaging FEMA funds.

No [kidding]? They actually put somebody in jail for that? I thought it was policy.

She is in jail for mismanaging FEMA funds.
No. She is not in jail (currently).
She was put in jail for contempt of court for (I think) 3 days (after hiding out for a while).

She is the clerk of the criminal courts for Orleans Parish (Orleans Parish is the only Parish in the state to have Criminal and Civil courts totally separate - two Sheriff's, too!) She asked for help from the judges to recover from Katrina, and then wasn't happy with the person they gave her to help.

I'll find an article or two on the point. (Unfortunately, it was more than 2 weeks ago, and the Times-Picayune website only has stuff up for 2 weeks)

Here's one: (http://www.wwl.com/Article.asp?id=183214&spid=7997)

Here's (http://www.wdsu.com/news/7852055/detail.html) another article from when she was released.

I just 'loved' this part
Butler came out of Orleans Parish Prison to a small group of enthusiastic supporters. She told WDSU NewsChannel 6 that she served her time and now considers herself among many historic peacemakers and civil rights "heroes" such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Nelson Mandela, Ghandi and Rosa Parks.

Nobody ever said politics in New Orleans was boring!

If any are honestly interested - MSNBC is broadcasting a debate with 7 of the candidates on Monday at 9 Eastern. I'm not sure if Ms Butler is one of the invited ones, though.

Here's an article (http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/metro/index.ssf?/base/news-14/1145080648105120.xml) from Today's Times-Picayune about the Disneyland picture. .

The scene brings to mind a vision of a rebuilt New Orleans, where the trash man comes every day and the streets are all clean.

Too clean.

Disney's lawyers are involved, now. I didn't see the physical paper yet, but a coworker called me to tell me this was on the front page of the Metro section
