Just picked up the new minivan yesterday. I'd been home maybe an hour when DH said "So, we need to start planning a trip." We all know what that means!!!

Anyone else base their auto purchases on how comfortable it would be on a road trip to Disneyland? he he

We're shooting for the first week of June, but how bad is the June gloom? (and for that matter, what exactly is it?)

Yes. Even if it is only 45 minutes, it's still uncomfortable.

Cool and overcast instead of the bright sunshine you would expect. I used to refer to it as "God's way of helping you get through finals" but I graduated awready and it's still going on.

Of course we do! Our minivan (05 Sienna) has built in DVD because of our frequent trips to So Cal (ok so most trips are to visit my In-laws, but we fit in DL when possible)

Yep! Thats us, we bought a 2006 Expediton three days before our October trip to Disneyland. That DVD player is GREAT on those trips form Northern California. Next trip May!

We purposefully bought a new mini van for the trips to DL and we spent a lot more money for all the comforts for the 10-11 hour drive. We have put about 5000 miles on the van so far with another trip in 10 days.

We did deck out the van with Disney. Such as we bought the antenna toppers that go with each holiday, the license plate is "6GRUMPYZ" and a sticker on the back that has Grumpy making the statement, "Back off, I'm Grumpy"

I WISH I lived close enough to drive!!

First week of June....we went June 2-9 last year and had absolutely GORGEOUS weather...sunny and warm the whole time.

I love that! I have a Grumpy baseball cap. I wear it when I have to do the ironing.

I just had to put my two cents into this one. Hehe.

In January, I am getting a red mini cooper with a white top, which happens to resemble the colors of Minnie (and Mickey);) If not already taken in California, my license plate will read [mini] "MOUSE."

Whenever I tell people my license plate will have "MOUSE" on it, I get this look:confused:, and then I have to say, "'mini' mouse, get it?" I figure if I add a Minnie sticker somewhere on the car, or a Disneyland license plate cover, or a Minnie Mouse antenna ball, or most likely ALL three, people will put two and two together:).

I can't wait to drive to Disneyland in my "Minnie Mobile!!!"

I would guarantee that something as simple as that will be gone already. But you can go here: https://vrir.dmv.ca.gov/ipp/ippMain.jsp to see what other ones might be available.

Yes, we considered the drives to Disneyland when purchasing our minivan, LOL. The built in DVD player was a must, and it has come in very handy on the drives!

Our minivan has made the drive from Sacramento to Anaheim sooooo much more bearable! I don't think we would have gone as many times over the past year if we didn't have the van.

My family actually welcomes (even hopes for) the June gloom. Basically, it just means that it's overcast until around noon. It keeps the temps down a bit (which is a good thing in June).

Good for you!

Yes...we too...once upon a time bought a minivan, and instantly said "Disneyland!"
I used to joke that it had Disneyland on 'auto-pilot'.
We just recently sold that van...and it was kinda sad.

But, I graduated from that van to a GMC Envoy a few years back. A dear friend here on MP told me that 'GMC' stood for "Good Mickey Car" :D
And hence, my GMC...has now learned that auto-pilot as well.

And, I do have a personalized California plate on my car. It reads "MADMKY":D
If you want to see if MOUSE is taken, call AAA...they can check for you. My bet is...it's probably gone already.:( (but, I could be wrong...)

I love that, the van is set on autopilot to Disneyland! I think I'll have mine programmed that way. :) We made the trip out last fall in my car and the van will seem like a dream after that.

My husband won the "Grand prize" at his Christmas party, which just happened to be a dual screen DVD player. I immediately said DISNEYLAND~

And the June gloom doesn't sound too bad really, especially if it burns off mid day.

A little of topic, years ago my mom bought a new Ford Escort,One of the incentives was a free trid to Disneyland. If i remember correctly it include 2 nights hotel & 2 tickets. My mom asked me if i wanted to go? Well i thought about it for a nano-second and said "ok". The car got great gas mileage, but it was like sitting on a cement block the whole drive.

P.S. have a SAFE and FUN trip.

That is the car they had in front of the DLH for a while with ears on top - it was the cutest thing! Not sure if the CHP would like people be driving a car with ears on top;)

This is funny!

Yes, when we got a Chrysler Pacifica, one thing mentioned fairly quickly was the ability to lie down in the back on the way home from DL!

THis is the second road trip from Colorado to Disneyland in less than a year. Sometimes I lay awake at night and think 'are we crazy???'

We have made the trip from way up north in California every year for 10 years. When we had our girls, we got a Suburban with XM radio and a DVD player. It makes the 11 hour trip so much nicer.

Amen - we have on older suburban too, but I have nightmares about how much gas it would use on a trip to DL (it's 1000 miles each way for us). :)
The van should be much better on gas.

Off topic again. Here in town there's a pest control company that has mouse ears on V.W.s. They do fold down while driving. They've been doing that for years. That and old classic cars with their logo on the side.

We are packing up the Odyssey in June for our first major road trip. Boise to Portland to Anaheim, and back home through Las Vegas. Should be about 2500 miles not including any side trips we decide to take. Got the kids a portable DVD player, because otherwise I think they'd drive us crazy! All in all I expect it to be a good trip, we are breaking it up into pieces so that the driving isn't so overwhelming. Can't wait!

How long is your road trip? Ours will be about 9 days, with roughly 3 days of that being travel time. I just wondered how long most people took for big road trips. We are also stopping in Las Vegas on our way to Anaheim (and back) for a little side adventure.

We have only been down once before with a second trip booked for this year, but we drive each time. Calgary Alberta (Canada) to Anaheim. Four day trip there through Montana, Idaho, Utah, Nevada and five day trip home up the California coast and through British Columbia.

We do it with three kids - though this year they will be 18, 16 & 13 and this time we have a van with a DVD player in it. Last time the kids were 16, 14 & 11 and we only had a car at the time so we rented a van (NO DVD player).

The trip was wonderful and we're all looking forward to it again. There's no such thing as "too far away" to drive to Disney :)

I agree with you Jill.....you are NEVER too far away to drive to DLR!!! We are 30 hours away, travelling from Edmonton. We drove down in our Grand Am last year (DH and 2 DD's and myself) for July 17. Just recently, I took a quick trip to Vegas with my friend and when I got home, my DH had bought a new Grand Prix. His argument for this was more comfort for our "Disney Road Trip!!!!!" (he would never consider driving a minivan) Last year we turned west at Salt Lake City and made a stop in San Francisco. This year, we are heading straight down, and spending a night in Vegas on the way there, and again on the way back. Thank goodness for DVD players and Gravol!!!!

Here's to safe road trips!!!!:D
