Have you been insulted in DLR?
I have, my last trip, I was wearing a Mickey sweatshirt, my name tag, a few pins, and my Mickey hat. I went to get on the sunwheel, and they asked for parties of 1 or 2 to come up to the front, so I did. Then when loading a car, the CM asked a group of people if I could sit with them to fill the car, they said "No!", and told me in my face, "We don't want to sit with a Disney freak!", I was very insulted.
I felt like saying, "It takes one to know one!", but I didn't. :)

that is awful, I'm sorry that some people are so ignorant as to have no social graces and that you were exposed to them :(

People like that should be banished from Disneyland! Only Disney Freaks should be allowed! Let them go to Knotts!

Take no notice of this.
You are a Disney Freak and you should be proud of the fact that you are.

Well the world is full of hateful people but don't let them drag you down. If they said that to you you are to good to ride on such a trashy trip as theirs. You are a Disney freak and so are most of us here that "as has been said before" is a compliment.
Take care, Kyle B.

Wow. That really reeks.
Besides the fact that being a Disney Freak is totally to be admired and a goal that you should be proud to have attained, having read your posts all this time {okay, since November, I think} I think you are a really cool person. I would love to meet you and I would be proud to hang with you.
And, even grown ups are rude to one another. Sadly, there are a lot of tactless, uncooth people.
Like the guy I ran into at Grand Californian!! But, that is another story. Just know that it happens to everyone. Left me with a bad taste in my mouth but I got over it.

It's been posted many times that some people check their common sense in at the gate. Unfortunately I think some also check their manners in as well.
To one "disneyfreak" from another...Ignore them. You are in great company loving Disney!

Oh, it was the guy who worked the check-in at the hotel. I tried to go in the night before I was to stay there to pay for my next night and pick up my Soap Opera package and he was soooooo rude. Hard to explain, but, he spoke to me as if I just fell off the turnip truck. He explained things to me but so rude and insulting {just imagine how you feel when someone speaks to you like you are a child, which you are not, your are 14, how it makes you feel}.
I just told him that I understood what he said and argued a couple of points but tried to stay composed and not let him get the best of me. What he said was fact but he was insulting the way he said it.
I went back the next morning knowing he couldn't be there and proceeded to have a great time.

MouseWife, I'm glad you had a great time inspite of that yahoo. And I'm sorry to hear about the way you were treated MonorailMan.
Unfortunately, some people just can't play well with others. MouseWife, I know what you mean about the way the guy spoke to you. Our attitudes are not usually conveyed through our words, but through our non-verbal and tone of voice.

Disney is my passion and if loving one thing too much makes you a freak, then great!!! I'm proud of what I know and do with Disney!! I am a Disney freak****** Next time I'm there I would love to me all other freaks. I think that those people were jealous cuz they can't measure up to the disney freak list yet!!! and besides who cares what they think anyways!!!

Look at me, I enough of a theme park freak (but in particular Disney) that I'm starting my own fanzine! This is the kind of thing that makes friends and family just kind of roll their eyes and sigh. Some people will never understand. My nieces and nephews all want the high thrill rides with no theming I just want to shake them and yell "What's the matter with you?" They think most of the Disney rides are boring. How can Pirates and HM be boring????

I remember mom saying, "I'll give you 4 times on the Monorail, then you'll be bored with it." :)

Once again,
The actions of a few, ruin the reputation of the many...
Once upon a time it was considered an honor to be considered a "Disney enthusiast" or even "Disney buff". However, as has happened with pin trading, there are those who seem to always take things too far, beyond the extreme where it becomes embarassing to even witness... hence the name "Disney freak".
I used to be able to walk through the land and ride the rides in relative peace, enjoying the rides for their immersion into the magic listening to the guests who haven't been there in a while or may never have been to the happiest place on earth go on about how they "loved" the rides, or say "I don't remember that from the last time I was here when I was a kid".
But times have changed.
I can no longer ride a ride without listening to a "freak" describe to his friends (other freaks) about the inner workings of the ride or how it looks in such shoddy condition. These are the people who are scorned when they try to ride with other occasional guests, they are known to the occasional guests as the worst part of their day (trust me, when I take family and friends from out of town, they don't want to be near those people; even though I can arguably be called an "enthusiast" myself.) Its unfortunate that we are treated this way, but we are not totally without blame, even I find myself doing "freakish" things.
We tend to forget that most people cannot afford to go there as many times as some of us or travel there from afar for a vacation with their families. We miss the fact that people go there to NOT know how everything works; they want to be fooled and let their imagination wander. We forget that (sorry for the emphasis) IT'S ALWAYS SOMEONES FIRST TIME TO DISNEYLAND!!!. Please try to keep Walt's dream alive for others.
I have much Disney merchandise as well as other memberships and paintings that would easily qualify me as a "freak", but I never bring it to the parks. I believe that I don't need to wear Disney merchandise inside the park for people to know I love Disneyland; I wouldn't be there if I didn't. I leave the Disney clothing and merchandise for outside...
For all of you who are proud to be called "freaks", I pity you. We used to be "enthusiasts" or "buffs", both positive nomenclatures. But we've degenerated ourselves by being proud of being "freaks". I'm sorry, but I will never accept that title, but I know of some of you who deserve it, I see you everytime I go to the parks...
I love Disney and the Parks just as much as the rest of you, but please, don't overdo it; you just cheapen the rest of us...
Sorry for the negative attitude but I've been hurt by reading that people are so eager to accept the "freak" title... as well as their behavior in the parks. The freaks give the rest of us a bad name.
I love you all, and Disneyland

My heart goes out to you MonorailMan. Rudeness of that level is mind-boggling. But maybe you can take comfort in that fact you weren't stuck in a small metal cage for I-don't-know-how-many minutes with some obnoxious posterior orifices...?
Heck, were I there in your stead, I would have smiled and informed those "charming guests" how delighted I was to not be in their company. Of course, I pity the poor CM who would have had to mop up the puddle of sarcasm I left behind....

I think that calling ourselves freaks on this board, or geeks or dorks, is fine.
I might call my kid a knothead but watch out if someone else does.
And, I consider most of these posters here to be family. And, MonorailMan is someone that I really love to read about as
he is full of enthusiam about what he does and what he knows.
Positively.
I think that the resorts are the prime place to wear the 'gear' that we have and the place to let go.
I don't recommend, though, that anyone wear those Mickey gloves to church.
{I like the idea of using the gloves as 'tie-backs' for curtains! Of course, the theme would have to be suitable for it!}.
Plus, I would rather see my kid having a great time at Disneyland/DCA than sitting at home griping about how miserable life is or out hanging with a bunch of kids looking for something to do and causing trouble.

I'm sorry. Last time I checked I thought this was a free country ...
Although I do PROUDLY classify myself as a Disney Freak, in the 30 years of my life I have been going to Disneyland, I have not once discussed "the inner workings of the ride or how it looks in such shoddy condition." I have never heard anyone do that in fact, and I am at DL every month. I don't wear pins (although I might start to after reading your post). Those who do wear pins and funky hats, etc. are well in their right to do it.
So, even though you say you "pity" people who call themselves "Disney Freaks", do us all a favor and don't. Your broad generalizations do much more harm than good.

Like you said, its a free country...
And I still pity you...

I'm sorry. But I don't get this 'pity'.
I pity those who are addicts and their lifes are in ruin because of it.
I pity those who don't see pleasure in life.
I pity those who don't see beyond their own interests.
I don't pity anyone living their life and enjoying things that give them great pleasure.
You must have had a bad experience yourself, to be so 'pity-full'.
You should let it pass. If people getting into the experience really bothers you, you just need to remember that everyone experiences things differently. And, what makes this country beautiful is the freedom for that.
Just walk on by. I think to some your attitude is probably more annoying than some in big gloves and laughing.

Although his approach was a little heavy-handed and (intentionally designed to?) could offend some of the Disney enthusiasts/fans/freaks/lovers/etc. here, I personally think some of his points are well-taken.
The kind of guests he describes are annoying, and they do take away from other peoples' experiences. While I don't pity those "extreme freaks", I do find them every bit as annoying as loudmouthed teenagers who think they know everything and want to make sure you know it. I see nothing wrong with embracing the term "freak" or wearing Disney stuff in a Disney park, but ruining other peoples' precious times at Disney parks is unforgivable!

Well, your pity means so much so much to me. Thanks Ozy! You must be very popular at parties and weddings!
hmmm ... I go to the parks once a month and you go once a week. Sounds like you're more of a "Disney Freak" than you'll admit to. ha ha!:D

In response to Ozy, many of your points were very astute, however I see it more as those folks are really not the disney freaks to which we affectionately refer but just obnoxious guests, and those come in all shapes, sizes and Disney experience/knowledge, I agree, they do tend to spoil the experience for others, but I don't think wearing my fav sweatshirt with the mouse on it or even letting my kids walk around with the silly hats/gloves or the headband with ears on it makes them open target for rudeness by other guests which is what happened to our young friend. I would like to think that when I hit the park that pixie dust starts doing it's work and I have to say that I pity anyone that is so concerned about labels as to worry if someone 'thinks' they might be a Disney enthusiast
