Does it really help to wear a poncho on GRR or Splash Mtn if you don't want to walk around soggy later. I think my dh, dd, and niece will ride GRR for sure this trip. I was thinking they could switch shoes... put on sandels or flip-flops and throw on a poncho. Yes or no?

We've done it 'both ways' with ponchos and with a change of clothes in a locker expecting to change in the nearest bathrooms....carrying a pair of flip flops and a poncho is a lot lighter than the full change of clothes, but it depends on each group. My surrogate nieces would have had to go back to the hotel and redone their hair and make up if they had gotten too wet so the ponchos worked well, they covered their hair and clothes and had a great ride.

We did .99 ponchos and they didn't help much. The water comes slogging in and can get under the poncho or come in through the neck area.

Actually it's best if you go on POTC wearing a full wetsuit. They can easily be obtained down in Huntington Beach, near the pier, or online here (http://extremeliquidations.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=W1).

Scuba gear is optional, but you may find it beneficial.

Personally, I would tell you not to worry about a poncho on Splash Mountain. Grizzly Rapids, however, might be a wise idea.

The problem I have always had with ponchos, of any kind, is that the water that does splash on you winds up dripping onto your lower legs and shoes. So while my torso and thighs were dry, from the knees down I was more soaked than I would have been without the poncho.

That's why over time I just forgot about the ponchos alltogether. More of my body gets wet, but I dry 10x faster.

I've never had to use a poncho on Splash Mountain. I can never seem to get more than a few drops no matter where I sit. Do you get more wet if you sit in the front? I'm usually always in the middle or in the back.

yes, generally the front gets you the wettest (or is it most wet??) :p

It has been scientifically proved that the seat that gets the wettest on Splash Mountain is whichever one I'm sitting in.

I put my feet up in the middle on GRR. They usually stay dry that way :)

The only place I seem to get wet on Splash Mountain is my face :(

GRR is my dh's absolute favorite ride. I would rather not get wet at all. When I was a kid I loved that kind of ride (like we have at Cedar Point) but now I'm getting too old I guess...LOL!

I am a proud poncho-wearer! I always wear it on Splash, and on GRR (I always get wet feet on both but the poncho gets completely soaked and I am always glad to be wearing it).

I've gotten soaked in the front seat on Splash Mountain. It was a back splash on the first small hill that got me so bad. But, at least I blocked the wall of water so that everyone else behind me stayed dry. :p

Nothing works on GRR!!! The water will get you!

Before our last trip we made a trip to the dollar store and bought ponchos. They were very lightweight (they reminded me of the plastic that the dry cleaner uses). They were easy to carry and we didn't get wet at all!!! Towards the end of the trip we did ditch them for splash and lived on the wild side!!!

i think how it works is - the ones who WANT to get wet WILL NOT. Those that DO NOT WANT to get wet will get SOAKED...

Price of a Disneyland parkhopper ticket: $149.00

The look on their faces when I show up on GRR wearing a wetsuit...PRICELESS!!!

I think it was New Year's Eve, I finally did GRR. I also did Splash Mountain.

I never ride either attraction unless it's (1) a rainy day, and (2) NOT freezing. On a rainy day, I'm dressed for either attraction: rain parka (with the collar buttoned up tight) and almost-matching Sou'wester (say whatever you want about New England fishermen, but they sure did come up with a great hat for foul weather! And let's face it, you open an umbrella on either attraction, and you'll be forcibly escorted off the attraction by men in white coats, brandishing butterfly nets!)

Speaking for GRR (I opened that attraction), you can't be barefoot on that attraction. Shoes and shirts need to stay on. You can put your feet on the middle part of the hand-hold ring (there's a big metal O ring, right there) where it physically attaches to the raft, but not on top of it as that's a good way to hurt yourself if you hit a bad bump into another raft (like right before the drops).

Also, don't take any belongings with you that you want to keep dry... the middle hand-hold ring does NOT have a compartment to keep things in. There are free lockers on the other side of the FASTPASS machines that you can use to store your stuff.

And please... NO umbrellas! OMG. I've had to stop the ride numerous times because someone would rip out an umbrella on the ride and I can just see in my head one of those going through the eye of the person sitting next to them.

I had a Guest staying at the Grand Californian come to GRR from the hotel entrance with one of their bathrobes on and a pair of slippers.

I turned the Guest around and told him to put on some clothes. Grizzly looking old man too... ick.

Then I called Security and the Main Entrance to yell at the idiot Cast Members at the Grand Californian entrance for letting someone wearing just a bathrobe into the park from that entrance. They had let him in because he just wanted to ride GRR and because the ride was right in front of the entrance. My god.

I wore a big yellow poncho on the water rides and didn't get wet at all. But the CM at Splash was a tad rude, rolling his eyes and asking: "would you like mask and snorkel?" At first I thought he was trying to be funny, but
he was pretty snarky.

The day we went it was raining off and on most of the day. My family decided to try Splash Mountain with ponchos on :)

As you can tell, it didn't work very well for me.... the girl at the photo booth was laughing at me as I wrung out my sleeves :) My family was relatively dry, but then again, I was in the front. :)
