Tomorowland has not been like it was in 1997! Do you think that the peoplemover track will get some life for the big 50? It may go beyond repair.

I don't see how.

• Teenagers.
• Deaths.
• Security.
• Breakdowns.

There is little motivation to bring back THAT particular ride.--Too many problems, which have no real solution.

Only if they design a new brake system. The smell from the tires was awful.

I see other problems besides Potzbie's:

First they would have to build new cars. I believe there is a relatively-intact one in the Eat Ticket if they don't have the design and want to re-create them. But they probably will want to design and build new ones.

Second, they would have to rehab the track. The PeopleMover cars had no power on their own, they were propelled by wheels sticking out of the track. Each wheel has its own electric motor, and I hear they were a pain in the butt to maintain. Keeping track of them may be easier now -- they could probably rig something electronic to make track-walking unnecessary -- but maintenance would still have to be done in-person.

Third, the tires on the wheels wore at varying rates, and had to be replaced regularly. This was not so much of a problem when Goodyear was the sponsor, they had a pride in the operation of the ride and provided tires readily. But when they let the sponsorship go, the tires became an issue.

I don't see it happening either. Pity.

Too bad they couldn't make it like the one at MK. There are teenagers there but they don't seem to have a problem. We really enjoyed it when we were in WDW in November. My daughter asked why there wasn't one at DL.

Wowee! A quick use of MousePad's Advanced "Search" feature reveals this certainly is a popular subject! Look at all the prior threads:

They all have to do with bringing the PeopleMover back and folk's opinion on the matter. And those are just the threads with "PeopleMover" in the title. There are many more threads about the PeopleMover in various "What Attraction Would You Like To See Brought Back?" type threads right here in the Disneyland Forum.

My personal opinion...I'd like to see 'em come back in some form or another.

But the track is empty and is a total waste of real estate (Observatron, Peoplemover track)

The ride wasn't known for breakdowns and it rarely had any.
Teenagers and security could be fixed if it was closed on grad night,

Deaths happen because of peope walking on the track.

It will though be rare to see them running again because the original vehicles have been sold but new updated ones that people can't get out of can elliminate all those threats.
Disneyland can't just destroy the track! I'f they did they would have to destroy observatron or modify it.

Yep, when the thing broke down. I got to walk it once. It was fun. We waved at people below and took pictures with the people walking behind us.

According to snopes.com (an awesome site) two of the nine guest deaths that Disneyland has experienced involved the Peoplemover.

http://www.snopes.com/disney/parks/deaths.htm

Maybe that had something to do with it?

I totally agree with this. The newer one at WDW works without any of the issues discussed here. Our kids did the same thing at DL and ask where is the cool thing that goes around tomorrowland that we went on at WDW?

Regarding Opus1guy's search on PeopleMover and the popularity of the bring it back issue: Do you think Disney exec's know or care about the opinions of the die hard Disneyland fans' opinions? Seems to me that it could be worth putting some of that creative imagineer energy on the subject of the people mover and the tracks to see what new they could come up with to add to Tomorrowland.

Yeah, that might've been me, back in the days of ride tickets. It was a rainy, windy day and supposedly the rain was causing problems with braking. I don't know why they didn't just stop loading guests until the ride was empty. We had to walk in the wind and rain down the track and into the Circlevision show building and were given complimentary ride tickets that could be used on any ride A-E. As a kid, I thought it was pretty cool, not concerned about the danger of course.

The teenager deal refers mostly to grad Nights.

There has been some history of younger guests getting out of their car and on the track because the ride was going so slow they thought they wouldn't get hurt.

Disneyland management and WDI are well aware of the opinions of die hard Disneyland fans concerning the PM.

Thruout it's legendary and hallowed halls WDI actually has many different blue sky and art-concepted ideas for the potentially new PM. Operations and show wise. From what I have been told and (there is just absolutely NO WAY, there isn't, otherwise.)
I am not sure how far any of these blue sky ideas or concepts have been fleshed out and further steps taken on at this point ...but this is Walt Disney Imagineering... they are artists, engineers, dreamers, creationists, Imagineers.
They know, they dream, they imagine, they brainstorm, they doodle and sketch concept art and ideas and apply modern technical advances to older ideas, older rides and new ideas most likely 90% of every waking day.

There are WDI concepts for a new PM ... but in the future (love the pun!) ... will any of those (as yet, potentially unofficial concepts) inspire TDA to buy into them?

Time, will tell....

There are people mover vehicles displayed in front of the team disney building, so I dont think they can be brought back.

Most of the others were all chopped up for various reasons, given away, auctioned, are being stored (unbeknownst to anyone I know or have read about) by someone at WDI for archive or personal reasons ...or were melted down into scrap. Like the Rocket Rods.

They were/are old ride vehicles, designed and built for an old and retired attraction.
Just because the beam is there (in various states of structual soundness), doesn't mean the track and station wouldn't both have to undergo drastic changes and operations and safety updates ... and brand new vehicles (with potentially new looks and features) concepted, designed, built, installed, tested and implemented.

The People Mover 1967 is dead, and the overwhelming majority of the vehicles are just no more, in any shape or form.

They would all have to be completely rebuilt for the new drive system (LIMs like WDW, if they are smart) and for, at the very least 2006's safety and evac standards anyway.

...and will be. But maybe not until 2010 or after. ;)
