How many of you have made more than one hotel reservation and then canceled the one you didn't ending up wanting? Or, have you made an off site reservation and then ended up with a great last miniute property hotel deal? I think I'm going to make two reservations for Mar... and then decide? Why do I feel bad about that? It seems like might be keeping someone else from getting a reservation that they need?

That would be me, another NVmom. I often make multiple reservations to hold what I am interested in until I decide. Hotels over book all the time. I wouldn't feel bad about it.

No, if anything there are people who will take your reservation at the last minute. When hotels say that spaces open up at the last minute......they really do, precisely because of last-minute cancellations.

I never know what I'll feel like until the last minute. I thought I'd only stay 3 nights......and then I ended up staying 6.

I never think I'll have enough money, so I always leave myself a budget alternative.....that I end up never using.

Never. That's just my personality: make a decision and never look back!

I don't know that I have done two at once, but I have made reservations when we are just thinking about going. Especially if the room rate is a good one, I will make reservations to make sure I get the great rate. Then I cancel if we decide not to go.

We typically book a package, so we just have on reservation. For my girls weekend in May I might end up with more then one res. We want to stay at the candy cane. I dont have money right now to book a disney package- which I want, because I want the coupon book, toon town madness, etc. So, I have a res. at the candy cane just in case disney travel is sold out by time the other girls give me their money. I wont book it until I have their money because I'm afraid they could cancel and I would be out a lot of money! If we book through Disney travel I will of course cancel my CCI res., at least a month in advance. They'll have plenty of time to rebook it.

We book for each of the last two weekend of April. We make a decision by watching the weather reports. In the past this made a difference between 60's and rain or upper 70's and clear.

The only time we book multiple reservations seems to be if we are bringing somebody with us. Example: my mother-in-law wanted to come along on our Dec. trip, but was waiting to see if a couple of business dealing would require her presence. I had to nail down reservations before everything sold out, so I made reservations on two seperate weekends.

Usually, if it's just us and the kids, we make a decision and stick to it...

Well, I went ahead and made two reservations for our "probably" trip in March. We should know by the end of the month, for sure, so I'll cancel one, or both if things don't work out.

I've never made more than one reservations. I guess I see a reservations at a sort of contract - they agree to provide me with a room, and I agree to use it. I don't see making a reservations as something to do becasue I'm thinking of taking a trip, or because I know I'm taking a trip and I can't decide where I want to stay. I think if fewer people cancelled reservations, we wouldn't have the problems with people not getting rooms because the hotel overbooked (assuming that some would cancel). I know that not all people see it that way, and so be it, but if you would feel bad about double booking, then I wouldn't do it. Never do anything you feel bad about. My favorite saying is "To think own self be true".

I do, at times, make more than one reservation. However, I try to cancel as far out as possible. Sometimes, when you make a reservation (whether it's at DL or elsewhere) one may not know who will be accompanying your party, which can affect the type and/or price of hotel/motel you stay in. I think most hotels/motels often overbook, or book heavy, due to this. Anyone in the hotel business that can confirm this?

Diane M... your post is funny, only because I already canceled one of my reservations a bit ago. I'm now only booked at the Candy Cane. :) Just couldn't do it. Had to make a decision, I guess.

I'm guessing most people are right though... it's a bit of a game between hotels & their patrons... That's ok too.

I am a manager for a hotel/casino we always over sell to anticapte the cancellations we may get or the "hold rooms set aside for various departments waiting on high rollers"

This is one reason why most places have a cancellation policy be it 48 hrs to 14 days prior to arrival by the time the date gets there they have been sold out and the overselling will just help confirm the fact that they remain sold out.

With that said, I myself do book more than one room. Trying to get the best offer and you "never know" what might happen.

I always make multiple reservations, unless I am staying on property. :D

When I make a reservation, I have every intention of keeping it. I've been on the receiving end of the problems caused by overbooking. Hotels, airlines, rental cars, etc. have to overbook in order to remain full and profitable. I have arrived at hotels, only to find they have no rooms available even though I've had reservations for months. Same with being bumped from airlines and having no cars available at the rental agency to fulfill my reservation.

That being said, it's all part of the game, but if people didn't cancel out on them, this wouldn't be much of a problem. Not a problem with long enough cancellation notice, but short notice cancellations without a good reason are selfish in my opinion. Either the hotel loses out by not being able to fill their rooms, or the other guests with reservations lose out because they now don't have a place to stay.
