Wife and i went to Dland for SM and saw the park was a little congested @4 and stood in line for about 30+ minutes, noticed the line had stalled for 10 minutes, inquired what was up and the ride was in process of being fixed. Later, the CM's came around and told us to hit the road and that we HAD to leave. I was so incensed because they didn't bother to offer fast passes to the throngs of people and us who were in line for the better part of an hour....and I asked them why the he)) they didn't have the fast pass machines up and running. "they already went through their cycle, sorry ...now please xit......"

That is soooo lame and all the other rides were now infiltrated with practically every 16-20 year old in OC. There is just too many people in the park these days to make it fun anymore. No SM fast passes, people showing no courtesy in line, massive lines at almost ALL rides. Yah, I know it's high season but this is just a joke.

i really feel bad for you, or any one who has a bad experience at DLR, but honestly, nothing you said appears out of the ordinary: stuff happens, stuff breaks, and its a summer Friday night.

i've never seen any one get FPs after a ride breaks, and yes, SM FPs run out before it gets dark. and sometimes rides break when you've been in line for a while.

too bad you left - you could have just stayed in Tomorrowland and been enjoying the Fab Four right now. i'm sorry this experience was frustrating.

at disney world RNR broke down when we were in line -- they gave all of us a sort of all purpose fast pass to use either at RNR when it came back up or any other ride we chose, don't know if they ever do this at DL but it sure softened the blow of having to bail out of line

they do this if you get stuck on the ride. We got stuck on POTC for 45 min and when we finally walked out of it we got a front of the line pass for whatever ride we wanted to go on..:)

ok, I just read the OP and have no idea why he is miffed and incensed. A ride went down, the park is busy....so what....it's Dl and summertime. Of course the fastpasses are gone it's 4PM.....am I the only one confused at why this would make someone so mad??....I'm choosing to go to sea world during the summer (next weekend) and I expect it to be busy. I expect things may go wrong, but that will not get me miffed or incensed. nowing it's going to be busy i chose not to buy the cheap discount tickets...I bought the AP with reserved seating....I expect seating to be available, but I also think if it's busy and alot of eppe ahve these all the seats may be taken. Now, that may annoy me, but not enough to ruin my day or hate the park....and I go into it expecting this may happen. When i go to DL I expect crowds, rides going down and annoying teens in the lines. It's always been that way.

Once, I was right at the loading gate for BTMRR when the ride broke down (this was actually just a couple weeks before the big accident.) The old prospector voice on the loudspeaker kept saying, "Sorry, folks, there's a slow movin' train ahead of us...." Then the CM on the loudspeaker told us to just turn around and exit, but several people in the station (including us) persistantly asked for FP's and were given a pass onto any other ride in the park. I suppose it wouldn't work to give all the guests in line of all broken down rides FP's for another ride, because then I suppose those rides would get swamped. But because of extenuating circumstances beyond my control earlier that day, we didn't get to the park until 6PM, it closed at 10, we go about once a year, we'd alrady lost a good chunk of time getting herded out of the West Side after Fantasmic (which we didn't watch) Splash was broken down that day, of course Space was still down, and my cousin from NY was there for the first and probably the only time in his life, so I didn't feel too badly. We went on Indy :D .

I really don't get the idea of a fast pass or the joy in getting one. I got one for Indy and had to wait in line for over 30 min to ride the ride. Guess what? The next time I rode the ride I waited in line for 15 min without the FP. Now we just go to another ride that is not using the FP while everyone packs in to get on that ride it frees up another ride.

Just curious what time of year this was - because that's when I want to go :)

I've never seen Indy with a standby wait of less than an hour and a half (though, of course, I'm not there that often.)

Here's what I don't get about Fastpass:

Ex:
You look at the line for Splash Mountain, it says 100 minutes. You're bumbed because it's such a long wait, but you really want to go on it. So you decide to get a Fastpass. It's 1:15pm, and the Fastpass return says 7:15-8:15pm.

So, the line is an hour and forty minutes. You can't come back till 7:15. So you have to wait 5 hours for your chance to ride Splash Mountain.

ONE hour and forty minutes
FIVE hours

You tell me which is better?

Don't know if I'm getting too OT here, but during those 5 hours I could be riding other rides, and then getting on Splash for a 15 - 30 min. wait. Whereas, if I just get on Splash, that 100 minutes is spent just standing in line, so that's an hour and ten minutes I'm losing. Of course, it's worth it if you really can't wait to go on Splash. Last time, I went on Splash first (before even collecting my DCA FP's) because I hadn't been on it in years.

Count me as another person who doesn't quite understand why the OP is so "miffed" at Disneyland.

He didn't get there until 4:00 in the afternoon. He chose the middle of summer to go. Of course all of the Fastpasses would be gone by then, just as they are at Splash Mt, Indy, etc. And the ride broke down and the CM's cleared the line, as they do whenever a ride breaks down and they know it will be a while before it has a chance of reopening.

So....... what's the big deal? A roller coaster broke down at an amusement park on a busy summer day. That's standard operating procedure for amusement parks in summer for decades. If they gave out front of the line passes to everyone who is ever inconvenienced at Disneyland, the lines for the "front of the line" would all be an hour long.

When a ride breaks down, I shrug my shoulders and go try something else.

I feel your pain. I have an annual pass and i avoid Disneyland in the summer at all costs. I hope CM Matt continues to open more rides instead of the stupid Pressler era of open one close one. Get that people mover going is what i say.

the boat was stuck right before the burning scene where that song plays over and over and over again. After about 30 min they turned it off. people cheered...LOL...the pirates kept moving, but there was no sound. A man came out with waders on and pulled our boat into the burning scene. There is an exit on the left that we went through. The behind the scenes looked like any break room I have ever been in. Not impressive, not themed, but what i would expect...it was bright, i think there was a soda machine....we went up some stairs and came out in NOS. The pass they gave us was front of the line I guess...they told us to go up the exits to use it. We used it on the matterhorn. They didn't take it, so we then used it on BTMR...they took it...LOL...the other ride I got stuck on was the jungle cruise. We were stuck on that one for over 30 minutes also. (I guess I don't have much luck with boat rides...LOL). On the jungle cruise they came out with an aluminum boat. It had a motor on th back. The man came into the jungle cruise boat, lifted up the middle section and did somethign to get us back on the track and then we finished the ride. the jungle cruise one is a bit fuzzy, because it was about 8 years ago. We were stopped in front of the first bull elephant though...LOL

I remember working muppet vision 3d one day and this guy couldn't wait 14 minutes for the show so he went to millionaire (when it was still open) and got a fp for the one oclock show. (it was 1205 at the time) so instead of going away to do something else for 45 minutes( you just needed to be back no later than ten minutes prior to showtime for a guaranteed seat) the guy stood outside the entrance of millionaire until showtime. Okay you can't wait 14 minutes for a 15 minute movie BUT you can get a fp for a show that does not start for 55 minutes and then wait outside for 55 minutes until it starts with a fp that guarantees you a seat as long as you come back no later than 10 minutes before the show starts? Sorry this has nothing to do with topic but I thought i would share a funny story.

Well, I hope it wasn't a front of the line pass that we got because we didn't get to the front of the line :p . I think we still waited about 30-45 minutes for Indy on the fastpass line, but it still beat 2 + hours.

The pass was given to us only with great reluctance at BTMRR so I'm guessing it wasn't general practice.

The CM at Indy didn't take our pass when we tried to give it to him, but told us to just keep moving in the line, so we used it after that to go on The Matterhorn :~D

Extenuating circumstances on the way there -

My parents, aunt, cousins and I were a half hour from the park when my mother wanted to stop and get something to eat. We got off the freeway and every restaurant we saw along the street was closed down and gutted. We went so far afield my father (who was driving) got lost and couldn't find his way back onto the freeway. Eventually, we found Harbor Boulevard, which is evidently extends through about twenty towns. It seemed endless, almost nightmarish (I actually have recurring dreams about being on my way to Dl and not being able to get there) and it kept getting later and later. And my poor younger cousin kept getting carsick. But eventually we got there, and had a great time :D . (The carsick cousin got a princess costume, so she was happy, then.)

That pass is generally given to Guests who are at the Loading Station or people who are in the Loading Station Queue.

For Ex.
If you're waiting to go on the Matterhorn Bobsleds attraction and the ride breaks down indefinetely, Guests who are in those final switchbacks are more likely to get this Special Fastpass. If you're outside that final queue area, you most likely won't get it. And they only give it to you if and only if the ride is down indefinetly or if they know that the ride will be down for a substantial amount of time. If an attraction is just in a holding pattern (like if the Attraction Station gets backed up to far where all Bobsleds are stopped to prevent collision (or if someone decides to stand up on the ride)), then they won't give you a pass because they know the ride will be fixed within 15-30 minutes and you can easily come back and ride it.

Another Ex.
I was waiting in line of Indiana Jones Adventure. I got as far as the part just before you go up stairs to cross over to the Loading Platform when the ride broke down. After a few minutes, the announced the ride was closed indefinetely and for everyone to reverse their direction and exit. Most of the people behind me turned and the left the other way, while a Cast Member was letting us out through a little gate. She gave us all Special Fastpass where I can use it at any attraction and it works as a regular Fastpass, but you don't have to wait for any window of time. So, you don't just get the pass just because the ride breaks down. If you're on the ride when it breaks down and you have to be escorted out, or if your in the final queue areas of an attraction and the ride breaks down indefinetely, then you're more likely to get that pass.

The more and more people that are there, the more and more tension develops among throngs of people on a hot summer day. It has really been seriously crowded at the park for weeks on in now. But I think we all know the reason for this. We just have to ride it out for the next 15 months or so. (And just so there's no confusion, I say 15 because 3 months have passed by already since it started.) Sure when you go, you're gonna have people blocking your way, people cutting you off numerous of times, people stopping in the middle of a walkway, people bumping into you, people yelling at you, people giving you dirty looks, people walking over you, but all of that is going to happen in a crowded amusement park. We all just have to take a deep breath, and go with the flow. It also helps to remember the good times you had, going on your favorite rides, and talking with good people from out of town or whatever, and watching their adorable kids go around like the energizer bunny. I should know, I just went through all of that yesterday. But at least I got to ride SM twice in a row. God I love that ride. And it's even funner, and darker, when I ride with the oakleys on. :D

Isntthe front A-MA-ZING???!! I rode SM about 4 times, then asked for the front and WOOOOOW!! I just felt like 100 times faster...like the whole ride was as fast as the ending part....I was totally blown away at how different the front was...when I was waiting, some guy said that on lots of rides the front is no different..but on this one it is...boy was he right!!! :D
