Yesterday I witnessed what has to have been the dumbest thing I have seen. A teenage boy stood up at the end of the Matterhorn ride, right after it went through the water. Needless to say the crew running the ride noticed instantly. The ride was immediatly shut down and 5 of the crew went and talked to the boy. One of the only things I heard was "why would you do that?" Not to sure what else was said.

They then announced that the ride would be down for 45 minutes due to minor techinical difficulties. They got everyone off of the ride except the boy and his friend. Then about 10 minutes later 2 security guards came over. The security guards, the crew of the ride, and the boy had a talk - with the boy being very animated.

We then saw the boy and his friend have thier park tickets ripped up and they were escorted away - I'm assuming off of the park premisses :D . Sorry if it seems mean to be happy about this but the ride was down almost 1 hour and 10 minutes because the kid was being stupid.

So anyway, if you're thinking of standing up on a ride, DON'T!!!!

I'm willing to bet, based on what you said, that some of the retribution was for the kid's demeanor. Sure, he did something wrong and should be dealt with. However, I bet if he took the position of "I'm sorry. It was wrong and it will never happen again," the end result might have been different. Anyway, now is not a good time to mess with safety protocol (as if there ever is a good time).

Hence,
This is why we have rides get shut down when somebody get's hurt and it's error on the guest. People acting like complete idiots! I'm all for public humiliation when you're so stupid to begin with, you ruin other people's plans. That kid should have been walked through the que while the ride was down for 45min with signs on him saying, "I am the reason your ride is being delayed because I am a idiot and horse manuer is more inteligent than I am. In the meantime, if you should see me throughout the park anymore today, please wack me upside the head. Also, take your size ten and...." Okay well I think you know where this is going. My point is, what goes through kids minds sometimes? "Hey Joe, look at this flourescent lightbulb I found." "Cool Mike. Hey, you know what would be awesome?" "What?" "If you smashed it over my head, then took this folding chair, and threw it at my face, all while you shoot bottlerockets at me. Bro that would be so awesome. We would be so cool!" ........half an hour later.

Doctor: "Son, I'm afraid you lost vision in your right eye and from now on your nose will look like Michael Jackson."

"Why!!!!??? I see it on TV all the time and they dont get hurt?"

I am a realist and I know that Disney wouldnt go through with public humiliation like that with its guests. So don't bother arguing over this. I'm just telling you how I would handle it if I worked there. ;) Good day!

O.K. I'll ask - who is Dolly Young?Nevermind! (don'tcha just love Google!):)

January 1984: Dolly Regene Young, a 48-year-old Fremont, CA, resident, was killed on the Matterhorn in an incident remarkably similar to the first Disneyland guest death nearly twenty years earlier. About two-thirds of the way down the mountain Young was thrown from her seat into the path of an oncoming bobsled, her head and chest becoming pinned beneath its wheels. An examination of Young's sled revealed that her seatbelt was not fastened at the time of the accident, but because she was riding alone in the rear car of a sled no one could determine whether or not she had deliberately unfastened her belt.

May 1964: Mark Maples, a 15-year-old Long Beach, CA, resident, was killed when he tried to stand up on the Matterhorn Bobsleds. Maples (or his companion) foolishly unbuckled his seatbeat and attempted to stand up as their bobsled neared the peak of the mountain. Maples lost his balance and was thrown from the sled to the track below, fracturing his skull and ribs and causing internal injuries. He died three days later.

Dolly was number two on the Matterhorn.

I agree with you on this. However on a side note I remeber being yelled at one time becuase we had a wheel chair and people thought I was "faking a leg" injury when in reality I had just had knee surgery two days before. It was unexpected and out trip was paid for or else I probaly would not of gone. I had a knee brace on but because it was winter I had on jeans that hid the brace well.
SO I must say I resever judgement untill I see them stand and switch riders then I am all over them :p

You So hit it on the nail.
MY nephew actaully nearly lost his eye becuase the stupid told his freind to shoot him with a paint ball gun! It was a month of sitting in a dark room completly flat on his back, Basically no getting up to even Pee! For a month we had to wait to see if he would lose his eye and or sight. Down the drain of his dream went the police force!

I am so glad they were escorted out. I think they should actually do this more often for even small things like defacing property or peeing somewhere. It seems like people are always having their kids pee on walls and plants from the stories you read on the internet and that would be enought to kick someone out imo.

Looking at this timeline, it's a wonder the idiot didn't get killed. The Matterhorn is about due for its annual "twenty year moron".

Couldn't agree more.... I'm glad the park took action.

We just got back from a weekend trip to DL. We saw a couple stupid and rude things this trip.

On Saturday, during the Jungle Cruise, 2 women kept standing up to take pictures. The CM kept having to tell them to sit down. But, after the ride, nothing else happened. They got off the boat and no other CM's spoke to them about it.

Today, my DS and I rode Indy, middle seats. A woman in the front row, taped the entire ride, full lighting. Then, she had the nerve to turn the camera on me and thought it was funny. I hope everything I said comes out on the tape! The ride was totally ruined. I immediately spoke to a CM about the incident. They apologized and offered us another ride, but did or said nothing to the woman. She just walked away making very smart comments.

People totally amazed me this weekend.

Just let Karma catch up with them. DH and I both have mobility issues. His make it hard for him to walk between rides, mine make it hard for me to stand still for any length of time. Our Disneyland visits would be H*ll if someone got all over us whenever we do a wheelchair switch because we do them before and after just about every ride. You just never know what hidden disabilities someone has so be kind! :D

Stupidity and inconsideration are my two biggest pet peeves when it comes to guests at Disneyland. Especially when they coincide with each other, such as a guest being stupid and inconsiderately jeopardizing not only their own safety, but the safety of others. In another thread, this one actually (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=45856&page=1&pp=25), someone had stated when trying to view Fantasmic and getting there a little late, they got a spot near these disabled children in wheelchairs but they didn't block their view. Then this other family comes up and stands directly in front of the kids. Even after several warnings and being told about the kids, the lady just looked back at them, said nothing and continued to stand there. I REALLY hate rude, stupid, inconsiderate people like this. And I am glad that the park did something and ejected the kid from the park. Glad that they publically made an example of him.

True... I really wish people would be more considerate... and I wish Disney would get rid of all the trees that blocks peoples views for Remember!

Most likely your words will be immortalized on this ladys(and I use that term loosely) tape. I never pass up a chance to "narrate" someones tape if they are rude enough to use the light on attractions such as this....you don't even have to speak much louder then a whisper as most of those cameras pick up every word :~D

-------------------
As for those kids...teenagers do stupid things because they feel invicible....tearing up those tickets (and I kind of hope they were on the first day of a multi-day ticket--or even better an AP ;) ) was a smart reaction to their stupidity....kinda sends a messege that there are consequences for stupid behavior even if nothing tragic happened on that particular act.
