Disneygallery.com has posted a "save the date" for the release of Thomas Kinkade's castle painting release. It's a breakfast and product release for September 10, 2005.

Here's the link: http://psc.disney.go.com/eventservices/disneygallery/event_disneyland4752.html. If you click on the "more information" link, it takes you to a page that has identical information at the moment, but on that page, there's also a link to the painting.

Interesting that the release date for this is the same as for the next Olszewski piece (Showcase/Jungle Cruise/Main Street train).

ETA: A friend very angrily just pointed out to me that the Olszewski piece release has been moved to September 17: http://www.register123.com/event/profile/web/index.cfm?PKwebID=0x22174f41b&varPage=agenda. They've been announcing the September 10 date for that for months now. I wonder if that's the only date they could do the Kinkade release, so they had to move it.

Thats my birthday! Now if I can get somebody to buy me the painting, it will be a happy day.

Does the page with the painting image show for other people? I'm getting nothing but a page header.

I'm not getting anything, either.

Hmmm, how weird. It's a blank page now. I swear the picture was on there before. It's a view from the middle of Main Street, from about where Coke Corner is, with the castle dressed up as it is now, and people on the street and such...

It was there earlier. I wonder if they took it down since it says to come see it unveiled. If we've all already saw it, there isnt much to unveil. LOL

If you go to "For More Information", there's a link at the top of that page that says "Disneyland, 50th Birthday Image." There's a picture of Kinkade and the painting there.

How weird. They took down the picture of just the painting and put up a picture that has him in front of the painting, obscuring about half of it. I would think people would be more interested in seeing the picture than him, but maybe it is a matter of not giving everything away before the release. But then, if I was inclined to buy the painting, I'd want to know what it looks like beforehand, not what half of it looks like with him in front of the other half.

Maybe they're "Sweetening the deal" by including a life-size carboard cut-out of the "Painter of light" himself!

Does it say how much it costs anywhere, I couldn't find it. And how many? I also thought I heard something about him painting a giant one that will go in DL, any merit to that?

I expect they'll have that sort of information available once the details of the event are announced. This is just a "save the date" announcement.

You know, no matter how many times I see him, I'm always surprised at how young he is.

Any artist who produces stuff so bland should be 80. I believe it is a federal law.

And versatile!

How I hate this Thomas Kinkaide. The guy is a NY Times bestselling author, too.

Yeah but can he write? Who cares! It's Thomas Kinkaide Painter of Light (TM).

Am I bitter? Oh, yeah.

You think the painting is bland?

Looks pretty darn impressive to me!

The painting looks fairly nice and I would have considered purchasing one or more if...

...he had not chosen to do the Castle with all the 50th turrets and logos.

What could have been a nice timeless representation...looks like a piece of cheap Marketing/Advertising art to me now, and not something I'd hang in my home. :(

I would have to see this painting in person before placing any final judgement, but yes, his stuff is bland. That doesn't mean it isn't technically proficient. Technical skill and artistry do not necessarily overlap.
