I've seen people with tripods there before. Out of curiousity, why do you ask? :p

I bring a pocket tripod and I prop it on top of a trash can when I need it to be high.

We have a small one that fits in the camera bag. Its about 6-8" tall when its unfolded. We sometimes bring it. Its nice to be able to set it up and use the timer for pic's of all of us. Sometimes its just easier then finding someone to take the picture for us. But, I sure wouldnt bring a full size one to the park and have to pack it around all day.

I usually bring mine and just leave it in the stroller when not in use. Good to use on those night shots where you need long exposures.

I always bring a tripod, usually a compact one that extends to almost 55" but compacts down to 9". It's for conveniance, not stealth. I have a full size tripod that extends to 63" but it's a LOT heavier and more of a pain in the keester to tote around for more than 100 yards.

Disney was not allowing, or limiting, tripods for a short while. I think someone at the checkpoints made up some rule and it got tossed around the other checkpoint charlies and charlene's who took it to heart. After writing formal complaints at City Hall, the "rule" was discarded. They don't even blink now if you have a tripod with you.

I believe there is still a rule about tripods at Disneyland. I think they can only be so big and then you can't bring it in.

Where to you find a mini tri-pod? I am thinking of getting one of these and possibly a uni-pod. That way I can at keep a steadier hand.

Any camera store will carry them. Best Buy may have them but depending on the quality you want, I would go to a professional camera store.

thats what i figured. Like most have said on here, a little one to prop on a trash can. of course, you could also get a cm to take a pic of the family for you.

I once escorted a bi-pod to DL, but security caught us and hustled out of the park.

On Thursday the 28th and Friday the 29th, we waited for the fireworks in the hub and about 2 hours before the show, a man showed up with a huge tripod. I guess it is regular size for photographers but it definetely wasn't one of the mini tripods that have been talked about in the thread.

I was using a regular tripod in Downtown Disney once, and got approached by a security guard. I was told that it "made them nervous" to see people setting up tripods. I was asked to wrap up what I was doing (some night-time shooting of Downtown Disney).

The next time I was at the park (a couple of days later) I talked to security and asked what the policy was. I was told that there was nothing prohibiting me from bringing a tripod in, but they would prefer that I did it only on slow days.

That was early 2004.

I keep a mini-tripod in my bag now, and that has been sufficient, and I haven't tried bringing a full tripod in the park since that initial encounter.

Like I said in my earlier post, there is NO rule about bringing tripods into the resort. To put it another way, you ARE allowed to bring full sized tripods into the park.

Even during that short time that the check point was stopping people, if you got it past them security would not approach you about it as you used it in the park. There were many times I brought in my highly collapsable tripod and had it extended to it's full size and is anything, security would come and ask what kind of camera (and lens) I had and whether I liked it or not.

I bring mine in regularly it'sa 24" when collapsed I think it's almost eye level when I expand it. I use it when taking time exposures (like ride photos queue areas and Disneyland restaurants) and they always let me in. I also mounted some chair wheels to it once and used it as a dolly to get some moving footage of Club 33.

I use a monopod at the park. Works great and is liiiiight. We like to tape the parades and such for the kids to watch at home and it is MUCH better than not using one.

I can imagine it would be hard to try to hold a camcorder steady for that whole length of time

yuppers! After the first visit to DL with the camcorder resulted in sore arms thats when I got the monopod. Still have to hold it upright, but so much less effort is needed. It really has been a great item on the trips we make.
