Previews are used as soft openings. The real openings usually have a some special event to reopen the attraction. Media coverage ect.

Well it depends on what you mean by preview. For a soft opening, they may not have everything working and basically its a way for the CMs to train on the attraction...crowd control, capacity issues, maintenance, etc. They have media previews where the ride should work at 100% just before the ride is officially opened to the general public. Then on the grand opening, the ride "officially" opens to the general public on a regular basis. Usually on that day, there's a stage set up with speeches and stuff and the characters cutting the ribbon.

Did you see the Calendar section of the Los Angeles Times, today (Thurs.)?
Full page ad plugging SPACE MOUNTAIN.
("Space Mountain -- It's back!")

Did the ad mention an opening date? -- No!
What does that mean?
Are Disneyland Resort officials implying that SM is really, permanantly open???

No its just a marketing strategy to get more people in the park. It may be open but its not official until they do all that hoopla, ribbon cutting thing.
