Who did the music for SPACE MOUNTAIN?

The Disneyland Park web site for SPACE MOUNTAIN says the music "was created by Dick Dale," the surf-guitar guru of the 1960s.

The latest edition (July 5th) of "Disney Insider" says the "new soundtrack ... composed by Michael Giacchino, who scored THE INCREDIBLES."

Please reconcile these contradictory statements.

The attraction vehicles are also all new, and include state-of-the-art onboard audio systems - each vehicle holds a whopping 42 speakers! This ensures that the new soundtrack to your interstellar adventure (composed by Michael Giacchino, who scored "The Incredibles") is heard to its best advantage. Chrissie tells us that the music has been carefully orchestrated to heighten the emotions Guests feel on their "joy ride through space" - including nervousness as they ascend through the final launch tunnel before rocketing off into the dark.

Both statements are correct, in a way. The old (pre-refurb) music was performed by Dick Dale. The music currently playing in the "New" Space Mountain is by the Incredibles guy.

And both are available on the 50th anniversary 2 disc set.

So, if you wanted an "old-school experience", you could get the cd, and play the old track in your own personal player.

Yeah. But the Space Mountain sound system is peppered with many sync que "marks" in the track that keep the soundtrack constantly adjusting (transparently) for your particular position in the attraction. The different speed of the different sleds requires this for the appropriate musical moments to occur at the proper points in the ride.

So chances are that the effect would be lacking simply playing the entire track off a personal player.

My favorite moment in the old Dick Dale version occurs with the cool classic Dale riff that plays when you hit the famous "dip-drop" in the Mountain.
